  1. I was sleeved on Friday 10/26 and currently on the clear liquid diet but enjoying my broth, crystal light, and isopure plus the most. Congratulations to you both! Keep up the good work and keep sharing!
  2. I would say it the same way you did here. Help them by asking them to focus on the positive things....like who is going to have the best arms or whose medical staff was the sexiest! And you are right....they mean well but instead of gloom and doom....focus on the really good stuff.
  3. Until recently, I thought that WLS was for the unmotivated or lazy. The more I researched I found that surgery is just like buying diet aids and spanx. It is a tool to help overweight people to reach their goal of good health. I research both the lap band and the sleeve and concluded that the sleeve was the right procedure for me. On October 1, I went to Dr. Jayaseelen for a consultation. His staff was nice and he was there to discuss the procedure during that initial visit. They verified that my UHC benefits covered the procedure but I would have to get individual approval and provide a 5 year history of obesity. Now, this was not going to be hard because I've had the same doctor since moving to Texas 11 years ago, worked for the same company, and held the same insurance.....but I was still just going through the motions and tried not to get excited. Well, on October 9th, I received a call from Dr. Jay's office stating that I was approved by my insurance and that I could select a surgery date.....my head was spinning! The nurse told me that I could schedule it as early as October 24th! Instead I opted for October 30th. Now you must know that there was a lot to be done in a short amount of time. I had to attend a pre op surgery class, have the EGD procedure, pre-op meeting with the surgeon, blood work, ekg, stress test.....The doctor's office worked with me to get as much as possible done in one day so that I would not have to make several trips back and forth. That was very much appreciated. I started my liquid diet on the 22nd of October and guess what happened on the 25th????? My doctor's office called me and asked....would you like to move your surgery up to tomorrow? Of course I was speechless and could only studder for a few seconds or so. I asked them to give me about an hour and I would call back with my decision. But since I knew my out of pocket costs and was ready to pay, had my short term disability started at my job, been to the grocery store and bought presurgery laxatives, liquid protein, gas x, b12, juices, crystal light, etc. - I decided to go for it because I was prepared!!!! Well here I am on Sunday night, sitting in my family room 2 days after surgery and feeling quite nice. 5 lbs down.....
  4. Great to hear. I was up and moving around earlier. Helping my mom (she is not a good cook) make dinner. LOL. I am weirdly satisfied by the smells of the food and the joy of preparing it. Very interesting......
  5. I was sleeved on Friday 10/26 and released from the hospital on 10/27. I did not drive but went to CVS and Walmart and walked around a little bit. Pain meds are my friend right now so I don't care about driving. This is my first surgery so I am more sore than anything else.
  6. Its called ignorance. I use to think it was the lazy way out also. Then I started researching it and learned that it is hard work and a tool to help you reach your health goals. Now I am two days post open and proud of myself for taking the first step to healthy.
  7. I was released Saturday evening and I feel pretty good. Sore is the most uncomfortable part. Milk of magnesia turned out to be my best friend! Today I got my scripts filled for pain. My fiance is frying a hotlink as we speak and it smells good but Im not interested in it.
  8. I wad sleeved yesterday 10/26. Still in the hospital suite as I type. Drinking was hard this morning but already easier.
  9. Mine was moved up and I was sleeved yesterday!
  10. I understand what you are feeling. My consultation was on 10/1 and I was approved on 10/9. My surgery date was scheduled for 10/30 but I got a call today that I could get it TOMORROW 10/26. I have never had surgery before so I am nervous. I am also excited to begin the healthy living journey!!
  11. I'm excited and nervous. I had the EGD today with no issues so that made me more at ease. My BMI is 39 and I can't wait for a healthier lifestyle.
  12. I was approved within a week and received my letter shortly after. I was expecting a longer wait but was pleasantly surprised.
