Liquid Magnesium Not Working....?!
Hello all, I am scheduled for surgery at 7:30am. I have been waiting for this day for so long and now I can't believe it's here! I'm super nervous Anyway, I took the liquid magnesium this afternoon around 12pm. It has been 6 hours and I still have yet to use the bathroom. The only symptom I've had is nausea but that's it! Is this not working? What happens if I don't "go?" Has anyone experienced this? P.S. The taste of the magnesium actually wasn't too bad. I have a very weak stomach and a horrible gag reflex but I was able to get the full bottle down with no problem. It just tasted like a super salty cherry 7up....totally tolerable

Losing Weight But I Don't See It.....
So apparently, I've lost 14 pounds so far on my pre-op diet but I can't even tell. Usually, when a person loses weight, you can see it in their face right away. My face looks the same, my clothes fit the same, everything is the same. Is this normal? Where did those 14 pounds go?

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
I'm doing much better. The first 3 days were the hardest but it's tolerable now. I know I'm doing this for a reason so I'm trying to stay strong. Having a great support system helps too!

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
My post-op diet is split up into stages. I can have liquids for the first 2 weeks, then mushy or pureed food for 2 weeks, and then slowly try regular food as long as my stomach can handle it. My protein is Bariatric Advantage, it's pretty good. As good as protein gets LOL

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
I'm hanging in there! I've lost about 14 pounds in one week, not too shabby. I don't really miss food too much, I just hate the feeling of being hungry all day. I bought the Protein powder directly through my doctor's office and it's actually not too bad. It's called Bariatric Advantage and I have the vanilla & banana flavors. Other than that, i've just been living on broth and juice. I only have 9 days left until my surgery so I'm motivated to keep this going for optimal results! I wish I was having that caldo with you! I miss my mexican food so much! I want some flatuas and sopes....mmmm! LOL Good luck with your surgery! Hope all goes well!

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
Wow, that was very rude and disrespectful. Just because I'm struggling with a pre-op diet doesn't mean I won't be strong enough to handle the post-op diet. There is a HUGE difference between the two, and if you knew anything about the sleeve process, you would understand that. I went from a 3,000 calorie diet to 700 calorie diet overnight, on top of quitting smoking at the same time. I'm a fighter and I'm strong so I'm proud of how far I've come along, regardless of how hard it is. I don't appreciate your negativity and condescension so please don't respond to my posts any longer unless you have something nice to say. This is a support group, not a bashing ring. I don't need your judgment.

I Start My Liquid Diet On Nov 19Th...
Most doctors require a liquid diet before surgery. Some allow meat and veggies too but it's all up to the doctors preference.

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
Yes, that's very possible! I've only been on mine for five days and I've already lost 12 pounds. In all honesty though, you're gonna pay for those 15-20 pounds.....I've been starving all week, it's not fun!

I Start My Liquid Diet On Nov 19Th...
I'm jealous that you only have to do the liquid diet for 1 week! I'm required to do 2 and it's not fun! I haven't figured out the secret to staying full. I'm always starving and my stomach is always growling. recipes - Peanut Butter, cocoa powder, and orange juice are great mix-ins!

Food Funeral?
I tried thinking of my favorite foods to eat before I started my pre-op diet but my mind went blank! I couldn't think of anything that I wanted to binge on...I think I changed my relationship with food the day I decided to have the surgery.

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
My doctor's office is requiring that I only eat high-Protein Meal Replacement shakes. I am allowed to mix in fruit, oatmeal, skim milk, and yogurt but I am not allowed to eat those foods alone. I'm having a hard time drinking these shakes because the taste is so bad so I'm literally starving everyday until my surgery. I'm afraid that I'm going to pass out eventually and I know I'm probably doing more harm than good. My mom is worried about me since I'm literally only drinking Water for the next 13 days straight. I called my doctor's office and asked if there were any alternative options to these shakes but they said no. I told them that I was struggling with the taste and I'm only consuming about 200 calories a day but they didn't seem to care. I think this is just a control thing to get me to break bad habits. I've seen that other people are allowed to eat whatever they want, as long as they lose about 10 pounds before surgery..... I'm not trying to "cheat" on the pre-op diet, I'm just trying to think rationally. I don't understand how it can be healthy for me to go 13-15 days without eating or consuming any calories. Does anyone know if I can sneak a few low-calorie foods without my doctor knowing? They gave me a list of things that I'm allowed to mix with the shakes....can I just eat those alone? Diet Jello, applesauce, SF popsicles, Peanut Butter, yogurt, etc..... Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I don't want to start off this process on the wrong foot so I'm looking for the truth behind the pre-op diet. Is this really going to hurt me if I take a bite of jello?

What Is Your Pre Op Diet?
I am allowed 4-5 shakes a day, up to 900 calories. The shakes are through Bariatric Advantage and I can mix in fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and skim milk but cannot eat any of those foods alone - strictly shakes
