When I lived in HI, I had a neighbor who weighed approximately 280 pounds, judging by her appearance. I had not seen her in maybe 4/5 months, but when I did....boy did she look good! She had shredded her fat cocoon and was now rocking a much smaller body..probably size 12/14. Now me, being the lifetime dieter that I am, just had to know what diet she was on that caused her to lose so much weight so fast. Now I was pretty ignorant when it came to the wls, so this was not the first thing that had come to mind. So after complimenting her weight loss and engaging in some petty conversation, I asked her what did she do to get her weight off. Her response....wait for it....wait for it...wait for it...her response was Water AEROBICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the heck? Was all I was thinking after she responded with that. Did she really believe that I would believe what she had just told me? Why lie about having weight loss surgery, especially to someone that is going through the same struggle that you once went through? We should not be ashamed to announce to those who want to attain a better health the tools that we have used to achieve that. Have any of you lied to someone about having surgery, if so, why? I understand that it is your personal decision to share whatever information with whomever you wish.
  2. Hi Lydia! Congratulations on taking the steps to get your weight under control...I am excited for you! Yay to a new, healthier you! A wonderful Christmas gift yourself.
  3. Hi Janie, keep up the great work..I can't wait until I have my surgery! I from SETX, but I now live outside of Huntsville. I am going to be a Self pay, so MX here I come.
  4. Melissa your story sounds so much like mine! All my life I have been overweight and never truly comfortable with myself. You could never tell that weight was a problem for me because I never portrayed to have low confidence/ self esteem. Several years ago I went to a consultation for getting the lapband, but could not fathom having a foreign object in my body forever. So surgery was placed in the back of my mind as I continued the cycle of dieting, losing weight, than regaining. It was recently while talking to my ex-roommate. She told me that she was going to have a wls to lose weight. I dove into wls again and came across this site, self-pay surgery in MX, and have finally decided that this is what I need.
  5. Hi Everyone, I reside in TX. I have not been sleeved yet... March 2013 seems soooo far away! I will be traveling to MX for surgery. I can't really say I have much of a support system. My sister feels as though this is too drastic and that "I should have discipline and lose the weight on my own." One of my good friends thinks that no one looks good who has the surgery and that "they all have a lot of extra skin." So I would really like to meet people who have been through what I will go through and who just understands.
  6. I guess...you know how you get to that place where you are comfortable...and not that I am comfortable being like this, but it is all I know. And with this surgery..this blessing and tool that has been provided to us...I know I will lose weight but I have never been smaller and healthy...and being like that is a little scary because I will not have to worry about being huge again because I will not let myself get like this
  7. congratulations and thank you for sharing with me.
  8. I have yet to have my surgery and now that I am getting ready to choose my date and pay my deposit (Self pay in Mexico)...I am getting fearful. Not necessarily of the procedure, but life afterwards. I have been obese my entire life and figured that yo-yo dieting would always be my story...with unsuccessful results. But now having this procedure is really real and I am scared. I want to be healthy, but how will I look? Will I like how the smaller me look? Will I lose friends along the way? Will I become obsessed with losing weight? Will people treat me differently? So many questions that I am not able to answer are floating through my mind? Some that I never thought was even an issue, so it has to be a trick of Satan for me to talk myself out of this blessing!
  9. I plan on going and having my surgery with Dr. Garcia or Dr. Kelly...I have yet to decide on which doctor I will use.
  10. I have not have surgery yet, but I am sooooo ready for it! I, too, am able to lose about 30 pounds and than nothing. It is a chain reaction for me...lose a few pounds, become depressed, than gain. An ongoing cycle that cease to end, but I am ready to have my procedure that will aid me in becoming an healthier, smaller me!
  11. Hi, I am also new to this group.
  12. I want to be around 140- 150...I want to be small, yet still curvy. Once I have my surgery I will really hit the gym of so the weight can come off...hopefully I will not have too much excess skin
  13. Thank you, I will have to look into that as well.
  14. Amanda, how did you go about borrowing from yiur 401k and what was the penalty?
  15. Jesser, I live outside of Huntsville! We can support one another.
  16. I am thinking about going in March during spring break (if I have the money)! I am considering Dr. Garcia and Dr. Kelly, but more so Dr. Garcia because of his special. I am nervous and excited at the same time.
  17. To be honest, it sounds like your friend may have a bit of jealousy stored up. You are pretty young lady and I can only imagine how you will look once you get down to your desired size/ healthier weight....smoking hottt! So in order to make you feel guilty and to start questioning your decision about the procedure she turns it into a God issue...one of Satans old tricks. God did not intend for use to be obese and live unhealthy lifestyles. So many people die from cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease- all which are preventable if we make and choose a healthier lifestyle and you are taking those steps to ensure that you do no fall victim to one of those diseases. God have given us the tools to take control of our lives. We didn't just magically come up with the various different wls...no God revealed those things to His children in order to help us...just like the other diseases. I am not sure if your friend is within her h/w ratio, but alot of thinner people are not able to understand the difficulties an obese person face on a day to day basis. My sister is small...has been all her life. She eats whatever she wants and does not gain a pound and when I told her about my surgery she didn't understand why I couldn't really stick to a weightloss plan and exercise. I wanted her to be happy for me that I was taking this serious step, but to her it is taking the easy out. I had wanted her to be there with me when I have surgery, but now all I need/ want is me and God. Do not be surprised that your friendship may change as you lose weight.
