  1. I had such a hard time with nausea that I was given a prescription anti nausea medication.
  2. I don't worry about my calories so much as getting in what I need to - protein. I find that by the time I eat all my protein I've had about 500-700 calories and I don't really get hungry much because I eat about 5 times a day. If I just want to snack, I try to make it something "good". Lately I've been on a pickle and greens kick, though I wouldn't do that 3 weeks out.
  3. A vegetarian avoids meat. A vegan avoids products that come from animals like egg, milk, or honey, even if the animal is not harmed.
  4. One of the things that has helped me (aside from the stricture that kept me from eating ) is that everyone around me knows about my surgery and my restrictions that go along with it. Word spread pretty quickly that while I do appreciate the thought of being included, I'm okay with being excluded to keep temptations away from me. If it's unavoidable, I take the smallest bit I can, take an appropriate sized bite, smile, talk about how yummy it is and then take it back to my cubicle where it goes straight in the trash.
  5. Yup, you're doing just fine. As many of us here can attest, even if the scale isn't moving, we're still losing fat. My body likes to lose weight in 3 day increments. I'll lose a pound or more on one day, then nothing for two. Lose more, nothing for two more. It all results in less weight, though, so I can't complain
  6. Have you considered meatless alternatives like Yves meat substitute or seitan? Both are decent in terms of protein and relatively low in carbs.
  7. With me, the one closest to the internal stitches always hurt the worst.

I like the 100 calorie almond packs in wasabi soy and cocoa flavors. I will also use veggies like steamed broccoli, spinach, or collard greens (with pepper sauce!) to snack on.
  9. With the exception of my port drain, all my incisions were at least 3" above the belly button/waist. Port drain was about 2" above. I did, however, try to keep myself in stretchy things and dresses because it was really easily irritated.
  10. I don't come anywhere close to what I ate pre-sleeve. I could go to the Chinese buffet and polish off three plates + desert and not even break a sweat. Now, I feel like I spend a LOT of my day eating, but not eating much. I eat tiny bits about 5 times a day, 100-150 calories at a go. Today I've eaten 4 times for about 63g protein and a little over 500 calories.
  11. They seem to be low protein, high carb/sugar and with not much nutritional value. I would avoid them, personally, as they seem kind of like candy bars repackaged to seem healthier.
  12. Warm liquids are still my favorites. My stomach reacts very strongly to cold anything and I'll usually feel nauseated when I drink it.
  13. Yeah, the dilation has to do with getting food in to the stomach. I had to have this done on Friday because it was difficult for me to eat *any* food at all, even soft foods like mashed potatoes. Remember, the sleeve is a tool, not a magic fix. We still have to pick and choose what we're going to eat in order to have success. Just being able to eat food isn't a sign of failure
  14. Hot chocolate with protein powder was my lifesaver. I'd mix two packets with two scoops of unflavored protein powder, put it in the blender and that would be my breakfast. 20g protein at a go.
  15. I am, and I never quit taking my normal iron supplement. I'd suppose it would depend on what the herbs are whether they'll be safe or not.
  16. Yup, it took me almost a week to lose the weight I put on in the two days I was in the hospital. Pre-op I lost 30 pounds. I put on 15 pounds of water weight in just two days from surgery.
  17. I was told it was a no go for six months and that my doc advises no more than a glass, preferably less. Keep in mind that alcohol will also dehydrate you and that's one of the last things we want.
  18. The smell of infection is greatly different from the smell of body odor. If it were infection there would be other signs like pain, fever, redness/tenderness or pus around any incision points. He'd be more likely to notice it before his wife did. Like others have said, it's most likely ketosis. I bust out the extra strong deodorant just for that very reason. Ketosis makes me stinky
  19. I've tried tons of Nectar flavors and I hated them ALL. I get that some people can tolerate them, but I found them disgusting. Any reason you're so attached to wanting to like Nectar?
  20. Certain things like gas, stomach acid, and esophageal spasms can all mimic "hungry" feelings. Take some GasX and an acid reducer, see if you still feel hungry.
  21. For me it was just the fact that it wasn't comfortable to sleep on my side for the first couple weeks. After that, I did it with some pillow support until I could lay normally without any pain or discomfort.
  22. Sleeve all the way for me. I didn't want to deal with the problems that come with a bypass - like greater risk of leaks because they're rerouting my intestines! Less choice in what I can eat, too. While I might have lost more weight faster with a bypass I can't complain about what I've lost so far.
  23. Eh, I'm getting a ton of Vitamins that I wouldn't otherwise be getting. I could eat straight Protein (fish, eggs, whatever) for breakfast but there's not going to be nearly as much protein and vitamins in it as there is in a 170 calorie shake. I have the rest of the day to eat "real" food, and I do. I normally eat some cottage cheese, a Protein Bar if I'm in a hurry, fish, almonds, turkey or other deli meat every couple hours during the day. Otherwise I'd never get in my 70 grams required protein.
  24. The week before I went on my liquid diet, I pigged out on everything. One day was chicken nuggets, one day was Thai food, the next was burgers and fries, then Chinese buffet, etc. While it's not that I'll never have those things again, it's that they're forever associated in my head with eating food in large quantities and I don't know if I could eat them without OVEREATING them, so I plan to stay away from them.
  25. I generally drink a meal replacement shake for this reason. I was never really a breakfast person, and surgery didn't change that. This way I get my protein and vitamins and I don't have to cook anything or take the time to eat it.
