1. First I want to say welcome to LBT! This is an awesome site. And good for you starting early to gain control of this wt thing! I know there are some in my family who disapprove of WLS, so like you, I don't discuss it w/them. Just remember, you're doing this to better yourself. Forget them. I know it's easier said than done, but you don't have to answer to them. Of course, the skinny-minis all think it's so easy to 'just push away from the table and exercise more'. Right. We all know how well that works. For me, I've only told people that I know will be supportive and encouraging, just b/c I want to enjoy my entrance into Bandland. There's no shame in me about the surgery whatsoever. I don't feel like I have to explain anything to anyone. After it's done and over, I don't care who knows. I hope this helps!!! Here's another link that may help: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/keeping-secret-31977/
2. But I thought they were trained to look. I got one from Lauren's Hope and I don't really see how they would miss it, if they're looking for it/taking a pulse/giving an IV/etc. It's very obvious when you turn my wrist over that it's a medical alert bracelet. I just don't want to broadcast to the world that I have a medical condition. Here's a pic of mine. Medical Alert Bracelet.bmp
3. Yes, I watch both of these shows, too. I love them. I saw on the last Brookhaven, one of the patients was breaking the rules by having takeout delivered. It's a fine line w/me sometimes when I watch. On one hand, I know how difficult it is to just say no/change your thinking and behavior, but on the other hand...I'm like "Goodness gracious. You're in this facility because your are (what looks like to me) beyond morbidly obese, and yet you still don't get it..." Wow.
4. TV Guide says it will be on tonight (or tomorrow morning if you want to get technical) at 12:00am (EST) on TLC. It's s'posed to be the episode from this past Monday night.
5. It will be next Monday's episode (7/9). I can't wait. I Tivo this show. I watched this week's episode again and I felt so bad for Marc. You know the guy you mentioned. He had to be sent home b/c insurance didn't want to pay for GB...but happy ending (if you didn't see it) - he got a call from the docs saying insurance would cover. WOOHOO! He really needed GB.
6.

That is awesome!! Sounds like you're a bit calmer now about it. I know for me, it always helps to get it out. I'm sorry your friend didn't get to take, you but all things happen for a reason. And like you said, maybe your dad will be convinced by this to do it himself. My daddy is taking me to get mine. (I am such a daddy's girl.)

I'm glad you thought about us here. That's what we're here for. We can all relate to one another. And I'm so glad to hear your focus and determination. We know you'll be successful!!! It's all good!
Oh yeah, and I'll update the calendar w/your new date.
7. Here's the thread w/the post-op shopping list: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f73/post-op-checklists-things-have-before-surgery-14814/
8. Peaches9, welcome to the Lucky 7s!!! Glad you're here. We will add you to the calendar. Felicia, thank you. I try. The dress came from Stylish Plus Size Clothing, Dresses and Apparel. - Another plus-size store that I will no longer have to shop, eventually. Ronik, thank you, too. Don't get down about the pregnancy mask. Check w/a dermatologist and see what can be done about it. Frustrated, isn't that crazy that things just all of a sudden flipped out? "...I can lose weight, I know I can. I just can't keep it off. No matter what I do to lose the weight, it always finds me again and brings a bunch of its friends along for company. I want, no, I NEED something permanent if I'm going to have any hope of controlling my current health problems and avoid getting any more..." This is my concern. I've lost wt many times before, but like you, just need a little help in modifying behavior and keeping it off.
9. Same here. No kids yet, and I can only imagine how my pregnancy would be...if I even got pregnant b/c I have PCOS, so infertility would be a problem.
10. I chose walking b/c that's what my body will allow me to do right now. I can't wait until I can step it up a few notches to do other activities!
11. Thank you, Jeanie. Blushing, again...
12. Thanks Marcy! I'm w/you on the blame thing. It's all on me. I don't have any kids, so no pregnancy wt hanging around. Just me overeating. That's all. :rolleyes And I know what you mean about large women in the media. It is so annoying and I'm so over it already. I'm tired of hearing about the anorexic and bulimic folks, too. But obviously since we can't control our wt and what goes into our mouths/bodies, there HAS to be s'thing wrong w/us. Whatever.
13. Laurend, BobbertsMom, MrsHorne, Abbey, and BeefyIrish I hope you guys are doing okay. Drop in when you get a chance!
14. Yay! I'm so excited that ya'll are here. Yes, it is wonderful to have fellow Christians to share this experience. Have any of you told others in your church about your surgery? I have, but only w/folks that I know are positive and encouraging.
15. Nighty night, Dini! :notagree
16. You're welcome. Yes, this group is awesome!!! I certainly want to stay true to who I am. This is s'thing I've been thinking about for some time now. I've been wondering how the wt loss will affect me socially, mentally, professionally, etc. I'm a pretty outgoing person now, so I can only imagine I may get a little more social??? And if for any odd reason, I do get above myself, I have family and friends who are sure to check me on it. I think my heart may be even more compassionate to those who are overweight b/c I know what it's like. Like today, I saw a large woman going into the bank. I know her legs had to be hurting her. My heart went out to her. I wondered if she knew about the Lap-Band.
17. Lynette, I'm sorry for you too about your loss. I am extremely close to my dad, so I can only imagine how you feel/felt. And sorry about the first hubby. What's up w/the cheating? (that's a whole other thread...I have REAL issues w/this. I've been on a rampage lately about men.)And damn those carbs. They started in early on you, huh? Me, too. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE bread. It is a huge downfall for me. Also, 150 was the smallest I remember being, too. I was a senior in high school. And 150 is my goal wt. And thanks for the compliment. You guys are making me blush. And that's kinda hard for a black person. Hahaha!
18. Dini, sweetie, no, no, no. No competition. I mean, she's okay, but you can see the arrogance and vanity. And that to me is sooo unattractive!!! You have nothing to worry about. Forget what folks have said in the past. You're hot now, and on your way to being even hotter. Just wait till she sees you...can we say jealous???
19. I'm sorry about all the loss. That would certainly bring on major depression. But you seem to be doing so well! I can relate to you w/the eating and depression. I also tend to shop when I'm down. You wouldn't believe the stuff that I have...It's pretty ridiculous, actually. And what a waste of time and money. And thanks for the compliment!
20. Thank you! Don't forget to look at the nails, too. Listen to me. Hahaha! I do admit, this is one pic that I actually like. Usually I hate seeing myself. Not usually a pleasant experience.
21.
Hey gang. Just wanted to post a few pics of me...so here goes.
The first 2 (the big ones) are me at our work Christmas Party in 2006. The little one is of me sometime in Jan or Feb 2007.
22. Just wondering. What caused you to gain wt? Was it a pregnancy, depression, some other major life event? I know for me, it was a major depression that hit during my freshman year in college. I gained 50lbs that 1st semester! Horrible time in my life. I tried exercising and dieting (who of us here hasn't), but I didn't keep the wt off. Up and down I went. Then, I got my first "real" job out of college. Pretty good paying job, but a horrible place to work. I ended up getting fired after a year and 2 mos b/c they told me I was unqualified for the position. Whatever. Everyone told me I had could've sued them (which was very true) b/c the termination was bogus. But I was so broken by that experience. I am such an overachiever and this tore me up, BAD. So, I gained more wt. That was years ago, but the wt is still here...kinda like a reminder. With this wt loss, I will be shedding a lot of emotional baggage and I can't wait. It will feel like a freeing, a deliverance. This wt loss will be a victory for me over all of that junk from way back when.
23. You're welcome! We're glad to have a male among the group. We had a couple others, but we haven't heard from them in a while. Just look away from the screen when we're talking about all the 'feminine stuff'. LOL.
24. Hey Dini. I go every 2 weeks...I LOVE it! Oh, I'm gonna have to hold myself back as the wt comes off. Don't get me wrong, I'm not conceited, but I do have a healthy sense of esteem (go figure). Even as a plus-sized woman, I've always taken care of myself. I just don't want to go overboard as the wt comes off. Just being honest. I know I'm gonna be a hottie jalottie! As for Mr. Adam...maybe he's having a hard time dealing w/this b/c he knows you're beautiful already, have a great personality, and he's scared what's gonna happen once you start losing wt. Maybe he's worried you'll start getting more attention from men and that scares him. Maybe he's upset that you'll no longer be attracted to him. I'd talk to him about. I'd have to. That's just me. I like to get stuff out on the table. No sense in letting it fester. I'm sorry he's not being as supportive as you would like.
25. I'm gonna go lay down for a few...I'll check back w/ya'll later! :bored
