1. Hi all! So I had agonized between Dr Kelly and Dr Almanza. Of course, I can't speak for Almanza, but as I am in TJ as we speak, Dr. Kelly and his staff have been AWESOOOOMMMMEEEE!
My first thought meeting the driver, Ricardo, was... Umm, what if the website was a set up? What if he's taking me to a torture chamber? WHO is this man and where am I going? I was thinking that I was clearly insane.
The hospital was like at home, and Dr Kelly, like everyone on here has said, is caring and compassionate. As I was rolled into surgery.. I am down here ALONE.. BTW.. And was TERRIFIED.. thinking-- WHAT THE HECK DID I DO?? MAYBE I SHOULD RUN OFF THIS TABLE, out of the hospital, alone, with nothing but my backless gown and my fat a++ and roll down a TJ hill somewhere and pray I somehow find my car over the border. But No, I laughed as I got rolled in (the nerves....) and stared at the giant surgery lights. Dr. Kelly patted me on the head and told me I'd be fine. Hey, a guy was in there before me who was 600 pounds, so I felt decent about it. I wake up in a haze thinking- WHAT did I just do? Am I insane? All the gas pains and nasuea. Anyways, By that night though, I felt better. The nurses were WONDERFUL and Ive seen Dr Kelly a bunch. I'm now in their hotel that they discharge you to.... After I did the lovely leak test this morning. It's not that bad though! Anyways, I know I was a lurker who came on here and was super scared of every aspect, but so far, so good. BTW- the hotel is VERY nice and has a lovely pool and drinks (sad sad), and also has a nice flat screen in each room. DR KELLY ROCKS!!!
2. Thanks!!! I'm still clueless when it comes to the AFTER part of surgery. Thanks again.
3. Hi! Not sure what to take with me when I go back to work. Protein shakes and water? Gatorade? Pureed soup I guess wouldn't be hard to take with you.
4. Yeah, see what that other deal is like. I don't blame you. My STUPID phone has no service whatsoever once I get down South to the border (I'm in LA).. So I'll be lugging my laptop. I'll keep you updated!
5. Hi again! Ok, so I'm dying on this three day liquid diet and just want to go to bed early tonight. Plus the thought of staying in a TJ hotel ALONE after surgery freaks me out. Are we allowed tylenol PM or some kind of over the counter sleeping aid? I heard Nyquil is a no from my coordinator Christi. Thanks!
6. Thanks ladies!!! Yeah, I have a bunch of episodes on youtube to catch up on.
7. You guys ROCK! I'm a lot calmer today. Albeit, hungry from the yucky liquid diet. Thank you all SO much. Scorch- you DO sound like me. I'll give you a full rundown of everything with pictures and all. I'll keep you posted and will add you as a friend. Thanks everyone. So nice of you all to take the time to care and reply!
8. Thank you! I was agonizing between him and Almanza and just decided to go with my gut.. And peace of mind.
9. Tues! I'll be SURE to let you wonderful ladies know how it goes!! Add me as a friend if you want and I'll be happy to answer any questions. I'm going alone. Blech. DOUBLE reason to be scared!
10. Oh.. Oops.. My bad... Good luck to you both! I'm sure we will all be fine and will shortly be posting in the POST-op section.
11. Hi! I have been on and off this board forever. When the lapband was big, I was on that site forever until I knew about this one. I have been dreaming, living, and breathing this surgery for years and finally am going on Tues. I am going to Mexico with Dr Kelly bc I just got a new job (starting in 2 wks) and don't want to wait a year or more and go through the hoops of insurance. I have not told my parents bc they would go BALLISTIC and I'd back out. Many of my friends know. I'm starting to FREAK out. Is this normal? I'm getting really cold feet. What if I die? End up in ICU? End up not wanting to eat ever again? I need to stop freaking out..... Did any of you go through this? And what is WRONG with me that I'm not normal and thin like my friends... I used to be... Had a baby... Things went to heck in handbasket, body-wise. I need to calm down. BTW, I'm a single mom. If I die, my three yr old is left with his just his dad. Any advice would be so loved! This board is awsome btw.
12. Hello, I'm getting SCARED.. Lemme tell ya. It's starting to sink in. Did anyone bring their laptop to Dr. Ramos- Kelly's facility? Do they have WIFI? Or did you just have your WIFI card? I know mine won't work down there... Thanks!
13. Thanks Cutie Pie and Tiff. Yikes, yeah , the sleeve sounds more cut and dry. Tiff, you've been a Godsend with all of your research and info throughout all of your posts. So helpful!
14. True. Ok good, phew. I'm making the right choice. Was on the obesity help forum and people there LOVE it. I am just getting the sleeve... No revisions or anything.
15. That's what I keep reading as well. People being rushed to the ER , etc. Thank you!!
16. Wow.. I saw your weight loss ticker. HOLY COW! My goodness. You've lost half of you basically! Great work! Amazing!!!!!!!! You look awesome.
17. Hello all! So after researching and AGONIZING for YEARS (haha) between Dr Almanza and Dr Kelly, I've decided on Dr. Kelly. I know each board promotes their own method (lapband site will tell you to get the lapband, this site will tell you to get the sleeve). I see proponents of the Piclation says that THAT is the way to go since it's less invasive, etc etc. I think I'm doing the right thing by getting the sleeve, right? Seems like there's more success in the long run. But not sure. Thanks again!!
18. Pepper- I SOOO needed this. THANK YOU. I have been on the fence between Almanza and Kelly for 2 years! You just made up my mind. An extra thousand is sooo worth peace of mind. Did you have your surgery?? How did it go??
