Kristie-- I am soooo with you. I stumbled accross the lapband forum maybe 3 years back and didn't have the 7500 ( at the time for it)... Then of course, I thought, nah, Nutrisystem is the way to go. Never works though! I always fall back into weight gain, and gain MORE. So, I'm with you. Good for saving up for Aceves. It'd take me years to do that - haha (Im a single mom ) so I gotta go with Almanza. Anyways, hang in there. Ladies, we will all be hot soon!

I'm just waiting on my passport cards (Im in L.A) and as SOON as it hits, I'm going to book! I'm aiming for right around that time. I told Christie as soon as humanly possible that first week of Aug! Im glad to see these posts. I start to get terrified when I read about the infection rate etc, but I just dont have the 8700 for Aceves.

Renee, Good memory. You are absolutely right. I was thinking Betty for some reason. Yeah, you saw her story go from great to disaster. Beyond disaster. The doc basically left her sis there to die. Thank God TJ is close to the border.....

Yes! It's like I finally found my home with this board. So many people are just like me... Dieted... Researched.. .Went BACK AND FORTH a billion times. "Oh, maybe I should just diet" to "Nope, I'm hellbent on getting surgery". My life seems like it's been on hold for the past 3 years. I barely shop, barely go to the mall, buy minimal clothing. So, yeah, it's time. I gotta say though, the deaths terrify me. I know they happen everywhere (not just Mexico-- it's just the recourse here vs Mexico is different)-- but is SCARY. Not gonna sugarcoat it.

Btw- that's crazy about Dr Kuri. I was dead set on him when I wanted the lap band a few years back. (Didnt know about this operation that the time). He had so many accolades and happy patients.

Hi Stephie! I remember hearing Ortiz was the best of the best at lapbands a couple of years ago. I am tossing my cookies (almost) reading this! Yikes!! God. I mean it could happen to anyone, anywhere. Just scary. I remember there was an older lady on here.. I can't remember her name. She sang praises (in this case it was Almanza) about how wonderful he was, and she sent her sister down there to him for surgery. Something went wrong and no one seemed to care. She was basically shoved off. She spent at least a month in ICU in a US hospital with like 200K in medical bills. Yikes. But I dont have 8700 dollars and I dont want to wait FOREVER for insurance to MAYBE approve me... So, I guess I'll just pray I'm cool and I come out OK. Ick. MOST people do come out OK. My luck tends to be bad though. Hopefully not in this case!!

Glad to see I am not alone! All I think about lately is food and get heavier. Barf. I thought about waiting it out on insurance, but for me it'd take forever. Viva La Mexico! (For me, at least!) Come on, passport card, get here already. I'll see you all on the loser's bench, baby!!!

Ughhh, I have been on this board for a couple of years, lurking around, wanting the surgery. I finally have the cash, and I just want my passport card to get here already! It's all I can think about. I feel like my life is on hold and I just want it over and donewith. Plus, I eay wayyyyy too much, knowning that surgery is now tangible. Anyone else?

I SOOOO feel all of you. I'm 33 and am single. I just have this feeling that guys are going to actually look at me twice and talk to me when I'm average weight. I HOPEEEEE to meet my soulmate, and I feel this is a tool to do it. Call me crazy, but it's true. The quality of guys go down as your weight goes up. At least in my experience. I used to be average weight and I always got the looks. Granted, I'm older now, but 33 isn't too old. I'm just SOOOOOOO excited to do this and get it overwith and be NORMAL and feel cute again!!!! And maybe even meet someone!!! Oregondaisy- it's true--- people judge a book by its cover. I'm SURE whoever I end up dating would also say they wouldnt have looked twice if I were 100 pounds heavier. Plus, I want that self confidence and mojo back. Sparkle. I call it sparkle. I want it back , dang it!

I hear you. It could cost WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY morrreeeee, no joke, hundreds of thousands of dollars, in a hospital, if something were to go wrong. I often ponder that. EXACTLY, I want this thing done yesterday-- am tired of sitting around thinking about it. Good luck with those Vegas storms! Thanks all your help.

Funny, I thought of her today! I remember her. Emailed her a couple of times about who to see. She , of course, said, Aceves. There were a couple of other good ones, but they were in Mexicali or elsewhere. Thanks for the link!!

Correct, the article goes into another doctor. The hearsay below goes on about other doctors. Anyways, it's a lot of hearsay, it sounds like. I feel slightly better now.

Ok, this is 3 different posts from different people. So were they both Dr Kelly? Not sure. Am confused. Here you go: That is why everyone should do their own research. There are stories about all Doctors. Dr. Kelly who I feel is a great Surgeon just had someone die a couple of weeks ago, do you think that makes him a bad surgeon? Things happen and it is usually the patient not following directions. The next time you talk to your surgeon, ask him how many he has done, I know how many your surgeon has done. I elected to go with someone with more experience( Almanza does 145 WLS a month) . ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Actually, there were TWO deaths recently there and they were wls related, obviously. Want opinions? Ok, I'll be honest. I think this place should be SHUT DOWN. I know people are going to hate on this, but look into it, these weren't the first deaths this surgeon has had. Experienced? In WHAT? Certainly not performing surgery correctly and SAFELY. I'll admit it, I did a YouTube video on this YESTERDAY and yes, I was talking about THIS DOCTOR. DO NOT go to a 'chop shop' when you're dealing with your body. You have one stomach, one life...you're worth it to have a competent surgeon. Your life is worth more than bargain shopping and then a reason to have serious buyers remorse. I think it's insane to shove people into a HOUSE to recover after a major surgery. Does that even make sense to you? Seriously? YES some people have gone there and have FORTUNATELY had great results and lived through it. But let me ask you this, what about the 17 year old girl that didn't go home? What about the mother of 3 children that DIDNT go home? This was recently...
