  1. After John's suicide the ONLY advice that sunk into my head was: "YOU CAN DO THIS"
  2. What food can you not eat 5 years out? Thank you so much for this post. Really made me feel better about eating like I did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App What food can you not eat 5 years out? Thank you so much for this post. Really made me feel better about eating like I did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App The list is too long for my liking, but is probably a blessing in disguise: Pasta rice sticky bread ketsup rich food overly sweet food overly spicy food anything fried chicken Those are the worst. I consider it a good thing now. Not being able to eat those foods, keeps me on track and loyal to my sleeve. Don't you dare feel guilty, Girl! Enjoy the moment. Enjoy the memories for your life time . There will be times during your journey when you will come upon a "bump in the road" or even "hit a wall". Memories of your food funeral will let you smile when smiling may be the last thing you though you could do. Do I regret my WLS? Nope. Do I regret having my food funeral. NEVER! Yep, what she ^^^^ said. Wait! That's ME Well then, ---what I said.

  4. Please try not to interpret my verbiage as confusion. I have no confusion about a "vets only" forum. The veterans of tomorrow are the newbies of today. In fact some of the members who you chose to segregate out would not qualify under the proposed guideline of being post op for 12-18months. I think that members with less time post op want and need to know what they are heading for. Why not share those experiences that we "vets" have? I have noticed that some of the newer members have done extensive research and have a wide understanding of the entire journey, while some "Vets" haven't a clue. Being 5yrs + out I certainly have noticed the changes in WLS in the past six years. Vets being able to read and take advantage of new ideas, theories and procedures while newbies are locked out of the vets' forum ---to me is a lose/lose. I know that my own path is probably (hopefully) different than most, but I hope that there are parts of it that can benefit vets as well as newbies. If a "vets only" --restricted --is opened I will participate. Be careful for what one asks for---one might just get it. I wish everyone a joyful journey--Newbie, Vet and everyone in between.
  5. We already have a Vets forum. I don't see the need to segregate the site further. PM if the need be. I think we just need to be more supportive of one another--no matter how long or short our journey has been.
  6. There are foods that I can not eat---now 5yrs out. I doubt if I will ever be able to eat them. To be able to enjoy a favorite meal after completing all of the requirements was not only a personal, but was a strongly encouraged by my bariatric team. Having a food funeral was, in fact on my list of "to do's" given to me by my Bariatric Center of Excellence team. Not once did they say, imply or treat me like I was being "rewarded like a dog". (how insulting to my dog). But each to their own... Make your own personal WLS journey joyful. the choice is yours.
  7. We never know how strong we are until we are given no other choice...
  8. I drove myself to the hospital AND I drove myself home..
  9. Good for YOU! Staying with your program is always a safe and smart way to go. You got this. Stay strong. Looking forward to watching your successful and joyful journey.
  10. Probably if you Google "nutritional yeast", you'll get a better understanding of it. I buy mine bulk from a "natural food store". A Qt. Soup container costs about $5.00. I like the "flaked" rather than the "powder". You can buy it on Amazon or Walmart. It is really processed and a small container will cost about $8.00. I put it into a grated cheese shaker and used it on veggies, Soups, green salads, popcorn, endless possibilities. It great because it adds Protein with very few added calories. Let me know what you think if you decide to try it.
  11. I have heard that nutritional yeast is tasty! What else do you add it to?. Any veggie that I roast. My favorites are Brussel sprouts and Cauliflower and carrots. I also sprinkle it onto green salad and into hot broth. It tastes like cheese on the veggies and it has a "bready" taste in broths. There's a book on Amazon all about Nutritional Yeast that has many recipes. Have fun experimenting!
  12. Seriously, Ladies, try sprinkling some Nutritional Yeast on your popcorn. Take a bag of it with you to the movies. Try it----you'll like it!! Report back, please after you've tried it.
  13. Congrats! I am 5yrs out and when my weight loss slowed, my Nut. actually increased my daily caloric intake. Sometimes our bodies go into starvation mode and will hang on to every oz of fat it can. We all need a certain amount of calories to sustain life, so yes, it is possible to increase one's caloric intake and lose weight. Right now, I'm heading for skin surgery this summer, so my surgeon and Nut. have balanced out my menu by adding whole grains and more fruits. This will increase my caloric intake, but will make my body more capable of a better and faster recovery after surgery. Enjoy the burritos while you can. After WLS, it will be awhile until you'll have them again.
  14. I went to the Keyport Fishery in NJ and had a full platter of fish--fried, baked, broiled and raw---and of course souped. Do I regret having my "food funeral"? Not one damned bit! I'll have those memories for a life time. There will be foods that you will not ever eat comfortably again. --and if you are one of the WLS people who experience dumping, you will never be able to eat those foods again without retching--ever. Enjoy your "food funeral". I did.
  15. I love burned popcorn. Weird, right? To justify eating it, I sprinkle Nutrional Yeast onto it. It's not only yummy, but it adds Protein. Just be careful, because too much can easily be eaten.
  16. You look "Maaavelous, Daaaling". Now go and get wet!! You're kids have been waiting for you to join the fun. ENJOY!!!!!!!
  17. @TheOdysseyOfAStoutman: Watching the video of my knee replacement was a great tool for the in-laws "having to go home early". (When I had in-laws) I think I'll ask for a video of my skin surgery. Now, THAT should really be grotesque!
  18. At the gate. Waiting for the firing of the starter's pistol...!! Then: Off you go! Try to relax. You've worked hard to get this far. Now let the your team do theirs. There'll be plenty for you to do after your surgery. For now? Rest, my friend.
  19. Take a deep breath and relax. You got this! Let the games begin!!!!
  20. The Bariatric Center of Excellence where I had my WLS Cathed all bariatric patients. It was done in the OR,after the patient was "asleep", and was usually removed in the Recovery room.
  21. I have the video of my knee replacement, so why not? Go for it. The most he/she can say is, "no". Let us know, because we're nosy...
  22. My daughter bought a waterproof fitbit for herself at the same time she bought mine. Her husband stepped on hers while washing his motorcycle (don't ask ), it became water damaged and Fitbit replaced it---no problem.
  23. Garth Brooks: If Tomorrow Never comes "If tomorrow never comes, will she know how much I loved her? Did I try in every way to show her every day that she's my only one. And if my time on Earth is through and she must face this world without me Is the love I gave her in the past Gonna be enough to last--If Tomorrow Never Comes"
  24. So, did you ever find out just what Nurse Nasty was "probing for"? My guess is that she was properly checking for worms. Yep, that's it----worms.
