  1. After 4 weeks of eating on average 1200 cals and over 100g protein, and GAINING 6 pounds, I threw in the towel on IIFYM eating. Apparently, it doesn't matter what the folk I eat, I don't lose weight unless I'm starving myself and as much as I am desperate to lose the weight I know that at this point in the game it isn't healthy to put myself on a 600 calorie diet, especially not in this environment. When I get home I am going to get all of my thyroid levels tested. Maybe if that gets sorted out it will at least remove some of these totally unfair roadblocks. And please, no lectures on how taking thyroid medication won't make me lose weight. I'm aware. Just looking to level the playing field.
  2. Well they need to stop fantasizing and start making it a reality!!
  3. Oh Cheri, I am nowhere near goal, at nearly 3 years out. I feel like a failure. A fat, floppy, failure. I'm seriously considering a revision to DS, my body has something chemically wrong with it, that NOTHING works - super low cal/TDEE/lowcarb-highprotein, cardio 6x a week, strength training, all of it and not a single pound lost in 7 weeks and I'm still obese enough that my body should be desperate to lose the extra cargo.
  4. Oh Coops, you took the words right out of my heart <3 ! I am terribly frustrated and depressed and still grieving the loss of my father. I have spent the last year exactly, from June to June, being in a depressed state, with one thing after another going catastrophically wrong, one tragedy after another and I just don't have the chemicals to cope. When I got to country I was 194 lbs, I wasn't exercising at all and I was eating crap. Then I got my $h!t together, got back on the super low cal 750 high Protein and daily exercise and promptly dropped to 189. Then nothing for weeks. Then decided to do TDEE/IIFYM and gained weight, as of this morning I am 196. the TDEE frankly feels like a con to me. It makes you gain weight, then you cut calories and surprise surprise, you lose weight - then it takes credit for you losing weight? No, duh hello - it's because you cut calories, not because you were eating more. Grrr. It just feels like a con. I am joyless, it's true. I see no reason for anything, no point in anything, hard work and effort clearly means nothing to my body so why bother, it's not like looking any different has brought me anything good.
  5. This was just sent to me on Facebook, I'm a known Cheeseasaurus Rex and would like to become a cheesemonger, I need this on a t-shirt
  6. Isn't the cabbage soup diet a real thing that was popular in the 80's?
  7. As a female out here, one must tread very carefully, it takes next to nothing to start gossip around here. And I thought I had put out some subtle yet distinct signs of flirtation, it seems like they flirt right back when they do actually talk to me, but they never take the next step. The longer I am here without, the better looking they get, we call this "deployment goggles".
  8. This isn't necessarily a sleever's issue of course, but this is my only online community where I can vent so, here goes ... I am deployed, the male to female ratio is 10-1 and a lot of these guys are young and hard, if they aren't working they are working out. I watch them do pull ups in the weight hangar and my mouth waters. It has now been ... 5 week since I've had any intimacy and I really. really. REALLY. want. IT. They all stare at me, stare holes through me, undress me with their eyes - and take their time about it, but none of them approach me or take the initiative. All those tanned muscles ... twitching biceps and corded forearms that could just lift me ... hmmmmm.
  9. and why did the thread star out my swear words when I had already self-sensored?
  10. My workouts may seem small potatoes to you, but I push myself hard and leave every session completely soaked in sweat and wobbling, so no, I'm not doing steady state cardio or mindless lifting. I do 3 machines for upper body, 3 for lower, and a round of free weights for upper and a round of body weight work for lower. My weight levels are as much as I can manage without breaking form and I do 3 sets of 20. My cardio is 45 minutes of running, as fast as I can go for as long as I can go before again, form breaks down, running in poor form leads to injury. Right now that means *only* 5 minutes at 4.5 on the treadmill before I need to walk at 3.5 for at least a minute. But again, even though that might sound like small potatoes to you, it leaves me drenched and wobbling. I do variations on this 6 days a week. As for food, you know my peculiar situation. Today this is what I could get my hands on: Breakfast - egg white omelet with ham cheese and peppers. I ate about 3 oz of it. small granny smith apple .25 cup milk in my coffee. stevia sweetener Lunch - ground beef w taco seasoning, 3 oz 1 cup cucumber slices with plain white vinegar 1 oz cheese Dinner (1 hour before gym) - Mexican seasoned sauteed chopped chicken, 3oz granny smith apple, 1 TBSP peanut butter after gym meal - Quest protein bar I ran out of protein powder a few weeks ago, also ran out of vitamins. I know I'm not drinking enough water, probably only 50 oz a day at most, but for some reason I seem to be having a problem I haven't had since immed post op and that is I can't seem to stomach plain water any more, I don't have any sugarless water flavorings.
  11. Well, at least all of you are at or near goal - my stupid body thinks it's a grand idea to be obese. Here I am, a solid 60 pounds overweight for my height, and my body just won't fu**ing cooperate. severe calorie restriction like post-op + consistent cardio = not a single pound lost, after 3 weeks. Switching it up to TDEE/IIFYM eating and adding strength training to the cardio = not a damn thing after 5 weeks. Oh excuse me, I GAINED 5 pounds. And no, I don't want to hear how its muscle and I'll put on muscle before losing weight and I probably look better blah blah BLAH. My pants are really tight, I don't look better, I'm just FAT. ALL MY ******* WORK AND IM STILL ******* FAT!!!! I ******* HATE THIS STUPID BODY.
  12. does muscle actually weight more than fat? I thought we finally put that old myth to rest, a pound is a pound the world 'round, and all that ... As soon as I get to the States I am going to a doctor to have my T3/4/1 tested because this is just bullsheet. There is no logical reason whatsoever for a 5'3" person's body to *want* to weight 195 lbs, which I now do thanks to eating the high cals of TDEE/IIFYM. Working out 6 days a week and eating responsibly should make a body lose weight, but I'm not, and the weight I've put on since starting this is just weight, it's not dense flat muscle, my clothes don't fit better, I don't look better. I'm not giving up, I'm going to continue eating healthfully and exercising but I am pretty effing angry at the world.
  13. Of all my disappointments with my loss stall and regain, the greatest is not being able to wear all of my adorable pretty fun sexy underthings v_v
  14. Yeah Fiddle *smirk, snort* what do you have to say in defense of your balls? Who knew your wiry balls were such a nuisance! ROTFLMFAO *gasp*
  15. Well Fiddle, I came to the same conclusion and I'm tapping out on the TDEE. I loved getting to eat more (who wouldn't) and I certainly loved having energy to burn at the gym, but it is now nearly four weeks of this and the only result is that I have gained weight, like, real weight, as in my pants are tighter now, my face is puffy. So, I'm at a bit of a loss now - extreme low calorie didn't work, eating TDEE didn't work. I'm open to suggestions.
  16. Hmm, why do I feel like there is more to the story ... what was your menu yesterday? And no "cleaning it up for the cameras". At only four weeks out, I'm surprised you are already into regular foods, I had only just begun the mushies at that point. Also, it sounds as though you aren't tracking your calories etc. with a tracker. Are you? MyPlate, livestrong, fatsecret, these are online trackers and honestly I don't think it's possible to redesign your relationship with food immediately post-op without using one.
  17. If for some reason you are hesitant to "stick your nose in" her business and say something, just imagine she is working for an investment firm and is taking people's money for a FRAUDULENT mutual fund. Any hesitations now? Because that is what she is doing.
  18. What Aaron said, I just put some boiling hot water in the bottle, a drop of soap, and shake-shake-shake, sparrkling clean. When I have used the dw machine it never seems to get into the rims etc and I'm left with crusty chocolate scum :/
  19. Passing for Thin is my favorite book in this genre. The author did not have WLS, she became a member of a group that treats obesity as a result of addiction and treats the members like addicts - they have sponsors and confessions in front of the group etc. She's a total head case and knows it and therapy is a major part of her recovery, but she is also treats her eating as an addiction and that really narrows her ability to accept and understand. By the time the book was published and she was invited on Oprah, she was already actively gaining and within a year she had gained back almost all of it. She's a brilliant writer, I've read a snip of her fiction, but she is too caught up in the addiction cycle to really let herself fly.
  20. Or support a locally owned coffee shop that doesn't scorch their beans. Local coffee joints tend to have comfier chairs, ime.
  21. It has been 3 weeks since I changed both my diet (TDEE/IIFYM) and exercise (cardio and strength training), and except for *gaining* 5 pounds, nothing has happened. There are some positive gains but they are so meager as to be laughable; I can run 4 minutes instead of 2, I can lift 10 lbs heavier than before, I can do 30 minutes of cardio without feeling like I'm being punished. But, considering the effort and vigilance I've put in, whoop-de-frickin-do. All clothes are just as tight as before.
  22. Mistysj - that bonding over dieting and self-loathing has always disturbed me, and I've never understood it.
  23. And these are just a few of the head issues that accompany the "easy way out" we took Made it to 1330 cals and 117g protein yesterday, a personal best, and am scared sh!tless to have eaten so much.
  24. Hmm wonder what it is about ice cream, it does that to me too ... I wonder if it is because it is such a pure injection of sugar? Kinda like the dessert version of a needle full of heroin right in the jugular ... when I first discovered it I was about a year and a half post-op and I decided since I was such a vigilant calorie counter and exerciser, that I would go to the locally celebrated ice cream shop for a baby scoop ... by the time bite #3 had been swallowed I knew something was W.R.O.N.G. I barely made it home and it felt just like in college after a too *successful* frat party. bleeeeaargh Being an idiot/food addict, a few months later I tried it again, only to have the same reaction. So, ice cream is no longer my favorite go-to dessert. I've switched to dark chocolate truffles
