Birth Control/pregnancy/vaca temptations!
i can't believe how all the doctors do things differently. my doctor didn't require that i stop my birth control pills before surgery. i took them like normal. however, i just got an IUD put in on friday so i dont have to worry about the pills anymore.

is it unusual?
i didnt have drain tube either. also, i didn't have a leak test done before i left the hospital. my surgeon did a leak test while i was in the OR - before i was out of surgery.

what do you think about what i'm eating - and did i mention i hate my scale....
1. i am starting to hate my scale. i've been stalled for almost a week. i was 178.8 for about 4-5 days. yesterday morning, i got on the scale and i was 177.6. i was so happy. however, this morning, i got on the scale and it was back at 178.6. wtf??? i'm a little pissed. i'm not on my period - in fact, i just got off. so bleh. 2. i was curious as to what others thought about what i'm eating.... here's what i've ate today so far: Breakfast - Protein shake 35 grams of protein snack - handful of unsalted almonds lunch - was out and grabbed 3 GRILLED chicken strips from chick-fil-a and ate 1 1/2 of them snack - finished the other 1 1/2 strips and ate 3 cheese poofs dinner - not sure yet - maybe some grilled chicken and veggies or tuna salad snack - will probably be a string cheese stick

i had surgery june 15th. about a week after surgery, i started my monthly cycle....a week early. i stopped for about a day, then started my normal monthly cycle. all along, i have been taking my birth control pills daily (my doc said it was fine). we've also been using condoms until my cycle is back to normal.....however, there was one day where we didnt. i started my inactive pills on saturday and here it is wednesday and still nothing. i'm due to get an IUD put in, but i have to start my cycle first.... i spotted yesterday and thought i was starting, but still nothing! in a way, i'm starting to get nervous and wondering if i should take a pregnancy test to ease my mind..... i thought i would never look forward to get a period, but i am this time.

i never thought i would say this, but i dont know what to eat!
it has now been 5 weeks since my surgery. i was cleared at 4 weeks to start eating normal foods. however, i dont know what to eat! LOL i've been sticking with lunchmeat, chili, tuna, chicken salad and cheeses. those have been my staples since 2 weeks out. and i'm SICK of them. i never thought i would say that i didn't know what to eat. i'm working on changing my thought process toward foods. yes, i know i could just run to taco bell and grab a taco or something, but i really want to make good food choices. i really know what i should be eating, but i guess i find it hard since i DONT feel like eating.... so strange. so help me out - what are some of your favorite things to eat? or a favorite recipe? i prefer chicken over beef or pork if that helps. thanks all!

Questions about Dr. Nick Nicholson-Dallas
i'm in dallas and my doctor is Dr Castro. he does free consults and does not require any testing before the consult. he did my band and my revision. he's wonderful and very easy to talk to. if you decide to look around for another doctor, i would be happy to give you his office number. he operates at 5-6 different hospitals.

new pain / discomfort
i guess i'm just going to chalk it up to a muscle pain since it's gone now. once i sat down and relaxed a bit, it went away. i was worried that it had something to do with eating, but i've eaten dinner since then and it the pain never returned. thanks for your input though....gallbladder was one of my thoughts too.

Do protein shakes count as liquid??
according to my doctor's plan, YES, protein drinks can count toward your liquids.

new pain / discomfort
i'm only a few days away from being a month out. i am able to eat and drink without any problems. i've been doing quite well since surgery and have been pain free since about a week after surgery. until now. i've had a normal day.... it's been like any other day for me. i did do some house cleaning, but nothing to major and i took breaks when i felt like i was getting to tired since i know my body is still healing. i finished my house cleaning about 4 hrs ago. however, i just ate a piece of small cheese and about 2-3 mins later, i started to feel this "new" pain. it's on my right side, right under my right breast at the incision site. i dont think that it's the food no agreeing with me - i know that feeling and it's not it. i'm not sure what this is. i'm not in enough pain to call my doctor or go to the ER, but it's uncomfortable. does anyone have an idea of what this could be? i just find it strange that it started within a few mins of eating something small. the piece of cheese was less than 1 oz.

Breakfast???
i'm almost a month out, so right now i focus on getting in my protein drink during breakfast. i have tried eggs once and i did fine with them (for soft food stage). i've also done greek yogurt.

The first month after the surgery----I need answers
I can only speak from my own experience..... and i'm almost a month out. 1. i felt minimal pain for about 3-4 days. it wasn't major. in fact, i never took any pain meds. 2. yes, you should be able to walk around. i was up walking around just a few hrs after surgery. i came home the day after surgery and walked around even more. just listen to your body - rest when you feel like you need to. walking helps with gas pains too (if you have them) 3. i didn't really feel weak during the liquid diet. i found the more Protein i got in, the more that helped from feeling weak. however, be aware that you will probably not be able to get all your Water and all your protein in the first few days after surgery. i was maybe getting in half. it's okay. good luck with your upcoming surgery!!

i'm going to fail....
i had the band for 2 years and hated it after the first year. i did everything i was suppose to and it caused me nothing but problems. a fill / unfill every few weeks caused me to gain weight and then lose a small bit. i felt like it was just a yo-yo diet. finally, the band was unfilled to get ready for my revision and i gained some weight. now i'm almost a month out with my sleeve. yes, i love it. yes, i'm happy i made this choice. however, i can't help but feel like i'm going to fail with the sleeve as well. i think i'm in my first stall. yes, i know they're common. i had them with the band. i just didn't think i would have one so soon. but i'm not beating myself up about it......yet. i sometimes think that i'm not destined to loose this weight. i am currently 184 and would like to lose 50lbs - if not more. i'm currently sick with a massive sinus infection and have felt like crap for the last few days. i dont know if this has something to do with my current mood or not. i just wanted to get on here and get my thoughts out. i've voiced my concerns to my husband and he's been great - he tells me i'm not going to fail and that i'm doing a great job so far.......gotta love that man. has anyone else felt they were going to fail with the sleeve? or is it just me and my sicky mood?

To weigh or not to weigh....that is the question!
i was thinking about this same thing earlier. i weigh several times a day. i know i shouldn't but i cant help it. i promised myself this morning that i would only weigh once a week. hopefully i can keep that promise to myself!

Did your taste change post-op?
i'm only 2 weeks out so i'm only on the soft food stage. so far i haven't noticed any changes in my tastes. but before the sleeve, i would crave junk like chocolate and candy daily. now, i dont even want to look at the stuff. i dont crave it like i used to. it's weird, but i like it!

can someone suggest a good vitiman?
after surgery, i was told that i needed to start taking Vitamins. it needs to be a multi-vitamin with an Iron B complex, Calcium citrate with Vitamin D. i asked the pharmacist at walmart and he suggested one a day women's active metabolism. they are pills - not chewable. i have not yet started them because i'm nervous about swallowing a pill this early out. can anyone suggest a good chewable vitamin that has everything listed? if i need to take 2 separate ones to get it all, that's fine too. i'm also suppose to take 2500mcg of B12 a week, but i got that part covered. i found some 500mcg b12s so if i take one 5 days a week, i'm good.

Bye for now
good luck to you!!

PPI's - should i or shouldn't i?
My doctor does not require that i take one. I used prevacid the last few months of my band because i had horrible acid reflux. i have not felt that feeling with this sleeve. in fact, i dont have any symptoms that i can tell. i haven't taken anything since 3 days after surgery. honestly i can't tell if i need one or not. i know there are quite a few people that use a PPI, so i thought i would ask - do you think i should take one anyway even though my doctor told me i dont have to if i dont want to?

Revision in one operation or two??
my revision was done with just one surgery. my band was never fully emptied since my doctor didn't want to risk it slipping before surgery. i had about 3ccs in my band when i had my revision done. i didn't have to do a liquid diet at all before my surgery. i only had to do liquids for the 24 hrs before surgery.
