Weekend Social Club
Getting caught up with FB, email, going through closets, watching tv. Beatles-musical genius. Getting lots of support from co-workers, friends and family for the upcoming surgery date of Oct 30. I love my job--how can you not be enthused about assisting adolescents with emotional issues and trauma backgrounds getting their lives on track and empowering themselves.

Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
It makes perfect sense that depression might be related to having surgery. Surgery is causing some changes with how you cope with issues in your life that you might not have had to deal with at all by being obese--for example, being seen by the opposite sex, being in competition with friends, being out in public, and not being able to fill your emotional needs with eating, just to name a few. Finding a therapist equipt to deal with this--first, you can pm me if you want and i will be happy to help you find a therapist in your area. If you have insurance, look on the back of your card for a mental health number. Call and ask for someone who specializes or has experience with weight loss or bariatrics and with depression, self image, and food addictions. Most therapist will do a phone screening in which you can ask questions about cost, time frames and scheduling and get a feel for the therapist. If they don't do phone screening, their first appointment should be a free consult. If you don't have insurance, see if your employer has an Employee assistance program-that usually qualifies you for 6 free sessions with your EAP therapist group. I would recommend EMDR, a type of therapy which takes the emotional overtones and disconnects them from events/memories of situations that you have experienced and allows you to look at situations more factually to resolve current issues. For example, if your family insulted you over eating choices and that happened on the same day that a boyfriend stood you up on Prom night, your brain might have wired a connection between rejection and food and shame. EMDR can separate that connection in a really short time which will keep you from having to engage in years of therapy.

ky.hen et all
Judy, We need an update. Hope everything is "passing on through" and you are home or getting there soon. Let us know how you are and please speak to the safety in Mexico and the ride from the airport. My friend who is accompanying me is getting a lot of nervous inquiries from her family about our safety. I need something to calm their fears.

stoongal - did you post all the details?
Glad you are home and doing well. I am getting all sorts of flack from people worried about the "dangers of American tourists being kidnapped and held for ransom" and I am starting to get annoyed at people's anxiety.

Paid Posters and Other annoying people
I too have grown tired of the paid posters who come on here to start crap and promote their paycheck with false advertising and misinformation. I have to commend zsflower for at least being honest about who she is. Shirley doesn't do that and hopefully she will be permanently banned for not following this board's protocol. I am not using her screen name but most of you know who she is. I have recently placed three people on my "ignore List" by going under User CP, settings and options. It is funny to look at threads where they have been deleted because only their name appears but not the spiteful things they say. This makes the ability to read threads here on VST so much more pleasant. Others of you might want to block them as well. It does not appear that Alex wants to force employees of doctors to be honest in their postings as that might decrease his personal paycheck. Hopefully, he will change his mind and care more about the safety of the people researching surgery than the kickbacks he receives for allowing paid posters access to us.

Scales or no scales?
I do take Paxil 60 mg a day. I also have a therapist that I can see more often if needed. THe key is going to be to find a way to keep me accountable without triggering the obsessive thoughts. How do the rest of you handle this?

Scales or no scales?
I have 61 more days before surgery. I also have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. In my previous weight loss attempts, I have been obsessive about working out (3 or 5 hours a day /6 or 7 days a week), weighing myself, measuring food, taking my measurements, etc. So I eventually threw out my scales and only let my doctor or trainer measure me so that I could have a life while not obsessing about the scale. I see a lot of post in which people are worried about stalls and plateaus. :thumbup1: Should I keep my practice of not weighing and just monitering weightloss by how my clothes fit?

Crazy ichy ???

Surgery on Monday
Good luck for an uneventful speedy recovery. My date is only 63 days away!

I can handle the physical, the mental is the hard part!
I have two ideas. One is to carry in your pocket a list of why you want to succeed--like being able to cross my legs, tie my shoes, look hot on the motorcycle, walk without being winded, flirt and get interest, travel without worrying about stares from people when I eat, quit shopping at Lane Giant& Fashion BUtt. Interspere messages like-I can have those foods too once my stomach heals, this liquid phase is only temporary. Reread the list whenever necessary. 2. find someone who is qualified in hypnotherapy and have them use hypnosis to help you utilize positive self talk regarding head hunger ideas.

Hoping to get off all my pills soon
I am on Gliperide, Lisinopril, 60 units of Novolog and 25 of Lantus insulin and byetta among others. My surgery isn't till Oct 30. I am also taking Zantac 150 mg. I don't know how my body will react to the surgery but plan on lowing my insulin as my fasting blood sugars go down. I am planning of doing lab work at three months out. Congrats on the surgery and let me know how you progress.
