  1. don't be far as i can tell your doing amazing already, i struggled a lot this past few weeks even with the 4 cc in my band. hoping now when i start eating solids again on Sunday that my hunger will finally be under control
  2. that is awesome.. keep it up..
  3. i had my first fill yesterday.. didn't hurt at all and was over before i expected the nurse was laughing when she said i was done. i guess i had a WTF look on my face.. as for how do they know how much to put in? they actually pull everything out first measure what is there and then make a decision on that and how things have been. for me i had 4cc from when the band was put in. but have felt no restriction so they added 2ccs. you will do fine. as long as they numb you first you won't feel a thing.
  4. i'm just starting my journey with a 14cc band and am hoping that i'll find the green zone somewhere between 7 and 9 based on the averages the doc has seen . sure some will take more or less but as i'm already at 6 i'm hoping i'm closer than i was.. had no restriction with 4. hope all is ok with you. i don't have the experience or knowledge to offer real advise but it if the cough is not norm and a indicator of something possibly wrong id be calling my doc. let us know how your doing..
  5. Just finished your blog and log your comment about the band not being around your head or mouth.. gosh wouldn't it be easier if it was? I find being newly banded with no restriction part of bandister hell.. i mean here i was practically starving myself... or so my head kept telling me no matter what i ate there was no restriction.. but now i'm on day 2 of liquids having gotten my first fill yesterday worried about what tomorrow the mushes stage will bring never mind Sunday when i can go back to solids again. I will be so very glad to cross bread of my list of food it is my weakness. any how what you where going through was similar to my experience so i'm glad that i'm not alone.. haven't had the stuck feeling and pray that i never do. best of luck on your journey
  6. there are apps that will count down 30 secs or what ever time you tell it and give you a visible notification that times up. the one i got for my pone is called eat slower. it's an android app.. you could just simply use the little times they give out at the kids dentist to help make sure they are cleaning their teeth for long enough i also use that at home.. that way my kids can play along as eating slowly is healthy for all
  7. i was banded on 9/19 and the diet plan my doc had me on mushes by week 2 with being on solids by 4. today at 4wks post op i had my first fill and am excited to see what the next stage will be. i was eating with no restriction up to this point hoping to have an easier time staying in the 1cup allowance now
  8. it went great for me. The nurse had me lie down on my back and then slightly sit up to bring the port closer to the surface.. she numbed me before hand and so i didn't feel a thing. i am now at 6cc full in a 14 cc band. apparently there was already 4 in there so she added 2. but is hopeful because of her past experience that patients with a 14cc band on average find the green zone some where between 7 and 9 cc. with some of course being the exception to the rule. i'm on liquids now for 48hrs mushes for one and then slowly back to normal. i'm hoping i will see a big change in restriction as with 4cc already in there i could eat what ever i wanted and how i wanted so it was getting hard to keep up my good habits.. won't really know until i start eating solid foods again so Monday will be the day to watch
  9. it went great : it went easy and quick. The nurse had me half sit up to make the port more accessible, numbed the area and after checking how much fluid was already in there filled me up. The only thing I find interesting is I already had 4ccs of fluid in my 14cc band. I had absolutely no restriction with this much in already. They added 2ccs bringing the total up to 6cc. based on the average they see of folks with the same size band she is hopeful I will find the green zone at between 7 and 9 cc. Here's hoping i'm one large step towards that goal now
  10. that is pretty much my story except i get my first fill today at 9am PST YEA!! so ready to not feel hungry i know i most likely won't hit the green zone the first time round but long as i get a little closer i'll be happy..
  11. will do as i'm STARVING too feel like i could eat off my arm.. i'm just hoping he puts in enough to make a difference.. there is some fluid already in there as he adds some when placing the band but said it's normal for it to loosen up in the wks post surgery. i'm just ready to find that green zone and finally see the scale move.. as it's not doing much of anything these days....
  12. i have to admit at first i was all what the heck as yes i did a search and there i was.. but as it was mentioned lapbandtalk is a free public forum that any one can log in and read.. twitter is just another avenue to help folks find them. and honestly.. it most likely only those who are interested in the procedure that would be following it on twitter. when it comes to posting anything on the web you have to use common sense.. 1. Will you care if other people see it. 2. Will it be something you would become embarrassed to see in the future 3. Would it cause you to be in danger? answer yes to any of those then you probably shouldn't be sharing anything on any kind of social media site. just my too cents.. i still want to read and hear about everyone's life.. just be thoughtful of what you share
  13. How was it? my first one is tomorrow and i can't wait to get some restriction going.. these last few weeks have been such a struggle to lose weight fight the hunger feeling and to remember to stop eating long before i want to..
  14. I chose to tell most folks at work... honestly though obesity is a dieses much like any other and you would not hesitate to have surgery to fix something else and most likely not hide it.people will watch you once they notice how you are eating any way so the truth for me was a easy choice.my boss has become my biggest cheerleader.my coworkers my walking companions the whole group walk every morning for at least a mile with me. Yes they are all waiting to see how much I will lose but as I have explained to them it's going to take awhile the newness will wear off eventually and they will stop tracking I hope.
  15. I am newly banded so I’m by no means an expert and right now I have just moved on to normal solid foods and do not have any restriction at all, so I struggle with the what and how much to eat at every meal. The feelings you have , are exactly the roller coaster i went through before my surgery. i was so afraid of how life would be post banding how i would interact with the world how i would do.. i basically sat myself down and ask what was more important to me. a healthy long life or a shorter one that got worse year after year.. i decided much like i did when i quit smoking i want to be here 40yrs from now.. and honestly food is not what i want to be remembered for.. I was at the state fair this weekend i thought it was going to be hell and at first it was. but then i broke out my shake i had brought with me. after and only after that i sucked on a few fries and found i didn't even want them.. only you can make this choice but like missy said you need to want to do this or I can see how hard it would be for folks not fully committed to this life
  16. so are we supposed to put in what we think we will eat and do for the day and see if we measure up? i guess food wise since i can never plan ahead.. (need to work on that) Stay with in Calorie goal Min of 30 mins on treadmill Feeling cool in AZ at ~62 degrees or so my phone tells me
  17. Umm are we related because i swear we have the same mother in law.. mine will only mention my weight when it's clear that i have gained and then she'll ask me oh did you lose weight? i mean WTF???
  18. Amen to that i had my first small glass of wine last night. it was part of my calorie count made sure to walk extra long and i sure enjoyed.. My dr say's while yes it is empty calories that a single glass of wine once in a while will not hurt. When i asked does it matter how "large" the glass is he laughed and told me to use my own judgement....
  19. Ahhh ok than I shall.consider my visit to the az state fair a NSV resisting all that fried food OMG no wonder people have a issue with weight....
  20. Ok I have to ask what does NSV acutally mean? I've seen it used a few times and I've no clue :-)
  21. intelirish replied to kshannon's topic in Rants & Raves
I have pretty much adopted the attitude folks can either get on my "band" wagon and support me or they aren't worth the effort.. i have never been able to keep things to myself so when folks take the time to ask i tell them.. that been said.. i do have one friend that is contently telling me that she's worried for me.. i'm like why i feel even this early into it all fantastic i'm losing weight.. slowly but that's the way we want it to go.. and i'm happy with my choice.. then.. she starts in with all the horror stories.. so i have decided to take a small break from her.. so that when she sees me next hopefully the conversation will be more WOW .. your look amazing.. etc etc etc.. don't let folks weigh you down the only one that truly counts right now is you. Best luck on your journey we are all there with you.
  22. I've been told in the past that you should drink half your body weight in water.. now i don't know how true that is..and honestly i don't come close.. i just try to get as much in as possible. the rings on my fingers usually tell me when i'm doing good
  23. welcome and while i know each and every one of us is different i would love to hear the different things you have done or... not done to be so successful with your weight loss. i'm allays on the look out for different tips and it's always helpful to sometimes know that there are others out there that struggle with the same things as you..
  24. i'm right behind you with a surgery date of 9/19 and a fill date schedule for next week.. this last few days have been really hard.. trying to find distractions when i start to feel hungry again after I've already eaten for the day.. just have to find something to distract. and drink lots and lots and lots of water. i find the days where i actually drink enough water i do better on the scale.
  25. Yea another band day buddie.. I got to meet one in person yesterday. That was awesome.. cathy it was a pleasure :-)
