  1. I don't know how to add friends:(
  2. Thanks but no thanks. I didn't go through all of this just to have to go to my surgeon and admit that the reason I'm screwed up is cuz I chose to disregard his or her instructions. I have been a nurse for 20 years and know my surgeons very well and respect their advise and opinions. I wouldnt have trusted my body to them if I had not. I really don't think its a very good idea to come on to a forum and advise people to disregard their surgeons advise and present your opinion like it is expert opinion. And......I don't think their is any food sitting above my band. If there was, I'm sure my body would tell me.
  3. Thanks Avis. Those I'm talking about know who they are.
  4. Somebody tell me how to make the quotes work!!! I have to add the quote after I do my typing. If I add it first, it sticks my posting right in the middle of the quotes.
  5. So, how did it go? Hopefully you're done and on the road to recovery.
  6. Maybe I'm being over sensitive or whatever. I havent been on the board that long, but I've been getting the feeling lately that there are "veterans" on this board (I'm using this term loosely cuz I'm certainly not talking about everybody here) are looking down your noses at those they like to fondly refer to as newbys. Like most of us, I appreciate some good pointers and advice but sort of resent the attitude I see here alot about newbys (and I hate that term) need to be told how to feel or what they are feeling and basically how to get this thing right. There are those on this board, and to name a few, Carolinagirl and Mis73, whose opinion and advice I truly respect and are not among the ones I'm referring to here. There are others that just seem to be trying to impress others with how much they know about the banding process and their ability to lose weight. Newsflash!!! You're no better at it than any of us! After all, you too needed WLS to get your weight under control. Thats why we are here, all of us. I get it! You lost your weight in record time. You did great. Yea!!! I may or may not do everything the same way as you did. Ill try different things until I find what works for me. But, give us a break already. Guess some of us are still in the learning phase. I plan to always be in the learning phase cuz I have a problem with obesity and that may not ever be totally resolved. Like I said, that's why I'm here. I just want you guys to know, that those of you who offer nonjudgemental advice and options, I appreciate it. Those of you who just want to strut your stuff and impress the rest of us "newbys" with your awesome wealth of knowledge about lapbanding..............rants over. Just sayin.
  7. I'm so proud of you
  8. Don't miss any appts. I don't know about your insurance but with mine if I skipped one of those 6 months, I would have had to start over.
  9. Use a heating pad, walk frequently and just remember this is all temporary. You'll progressively start feeling better.
  10. You look fantastic.
  11. And candy makes you crave mroe candy. I find if I can totally avoid it I am better off. If I have 1 piece, all bets are off. Forgive yourself and start over. We all have our moments of weakness, that's why we're here.
  12. The last thing you need to do is be ashamed to visit your surgeon. You must see him to get back on track and if you don't you'll probably never forgive yourself
  13. I find that if I stand straight up and raise my arms in the air it helps me get unstuck faster
  14. It's sort of modified version of sleeve..no cutting or removal. The fold the stomach in on itself and stitch it. I had it and not in the green but am doing great. Some have band and plication and never any fills
  15. GF I'm so excited for you!!!
  16. Mandamom is right. I would be surprised if everyone that went through this surgery didn't nave the same feelings. I lost like 14lbs on preop diet and almost talked myself into canceling surg and just doing preop diet til weight was gone. What a disaster that would have been. You got this. And after you start losing don't be sabotaged by those who tell you you've lost enough or are starting to look sick. People mean well but you are their comfort zone too. A lot of people here are off their diabetes meds and bp meds due to their wt loss and living the lives they want and need to live. Whatever you decide has to be right for you. I've list 50 lbs in 6 months and have no regrets.
  17. You have a lot to celebrate:)
  18. Fantastic. Keep it up
  19. Everyone recovers differently. I had hernia repair with plication and band on Friday and was at work I'm Monday. I could have used one or two more days. I'm a home health nurse so I drive all of the time and I think that's what made it so hard
  20. Besides at 5'5 150 lbs is around a 25 BMI which is considered very normal. Why not stop there? I for one don't want to get caught up in just the weight but how I feel and look. Initially I set a weight goal, but will adjust this as I go, when I was young it was all about the scales which could be what got me in trouble in the 1st place. I also agree that thin especially too thin is not always beautiful.
  21. You didn't mention it but I assume you have healthy kidneys. Too much Protein can cause kidney stones. The body doesn't store leftover protein so you have to drink plenty of Water to wash the uric acid (by products of protein) out of your system. If you have kidney problems or history of kidney stones this could cause you some problems. The body won't use protein for energy unless you run out of carbs and fats. It uses protein to build muscle and repair muscle. Otherwise I don't know why she would set a maximum on protein because if you do that then you will obviously have to take in quite a bit more carbs and fat to meet your caloric requirement. A gram of protein only equals 4 calories, a gram of carbs 4 calories and a gram of fat 9 calories.
  22. We all have our moments of weakness. Just put it behind you and move forward.
  23. How about your deductibles and copays?
  24. And, also watch your sodium intake. If youre seeing swelling you may be retaining alot more than you realize as the face hands and feet are later effects of water retention.
