    Weight Watchers Points

If you're doing Weight Watchers, how many points to you eat a day?
  2. I tend to get very swollen after a fill, so I've been sticking to fills of .25 every 3-4 weeks. Friday night, I got stuck on shrimp. VERY STUCK! By Saturday morning, I could drink Water but in very small amounts. By Saturday night, I was okay. I ate grilled chicken with cheese for dinner and had a few glasses of wine. Woke up Sunday morning and was SO tight. I mean, beyond tight. I couldn't even keep my saliva down. I'm not sure what caused it. I probably threw up/PB 30 times on Saturday. Struggled through the night and went to the Doctor on Monday. The Fluid FLEW out of my band. We tried to only take out a little, but I kept throwing up. 3 unfills and 1.5 ccs later, I left the office. I dread the path to get that 1.5 back in...emotionally and physically.

    A cry for a friend...

I had lap band in May of 2013. My best friend since nursery school had gastric bypass in July of 2013. This was our journey together. There is such comfort of having a friend that is exploring this journey with you. Someone who tells you like it is, who doesn't play games, who is as real as it gets. She passed away on 9/8/13 due to complications from WLS. I'm lost. I'm heartbroken. She's the only person (other than my husband and immediate family) that knew I had lap band. She was the one person that I confided in about everything. The one person who "got it." She was my sanity. The one who broke through the bull ****, could talk about the real issues of being fat, without getting caught up in the bs, who knew what it was like to be a fat mom, but wanted the best for our kids (we both have 5 and 3 year old), who could admit what we were missing without feeling sorry for ourselves, who could talk about how different our lives would be when we reached our goal weights, who knew that it sucked that we have "rib fat" or an "apron" of fat, that we couldn't see our kitty kats and that our 'girls' were better off before we spent years breastfeeding. She made me laugh, she was raw, but real, and that's what I loved most. I miss her. I miss her honesty. I'm desperately seeking someone who "get's it," who isn't trying to play the game, trying to be a perfect mom or pretending to live a life that is completely conformed since surgery. I'm struggling every day and am assuming that others are as well. Am I crazy to think that there are others out there that understand where I'm coming from or who feel comfortable with inappropriate humor/raw reality? If so, I'm dying to connect with you. I miss my friend dearly and am desperately in need of someone to fill the void of honestly. When all is said and done, I’m looking for a friend in this journey. No judgment. Just reality and honesty about how much life sucks with being a fat mom (or dad!!!!)

    Normal Plate Size?

I'm 6 months out and still don't really know what a 'normal' plate size is. I hear 1/2 cup, 1 cup, small plate with 1/2 Protein, 1/4 veggies, 1/4 carbs. I also heard "I can only take a few bites and I'm satisfied." For those of you in the green, how much are you eating to be satisfied for 4 hours? Thanks!

    Weight Watchers Points

Thanks guys...and I agree, however I'm not in the green and the band isn't 'doing its job,' therefore I'm eating too much. Just trying to find the balance if how much vs. what I should be eating until I get to the right restriction. For example, when I go out to eat, I have to order a salad. If I order something that us high in Protein, ie a chicken dish, I eat too much of it and consume too many calories.
  7. I'm in the same boat. Banded in May 2013, 8.75 in my band and still not in the green. I can (and sometimes need) to eat a lot of food to feel satisfied. Two important things: - It's okay and totally normal to be frustrated and want to vent - It's not okay to give up Every day is one step closer to being in a good place. GOOD LUCK!!!
  8. I had lapband in May of 2013, I have 8.75 cc in my 14 cc band and I'm not yet in the green zone. I feel like I'm never going to get there and that it is a "fantasy feeling" that everyone talks about. Not to mention, I can't get my mind on the right track. I feel like I'm fighting the same fight from before lap band. I'm on track and doing great for 2 days and then all hell breaks loose. I don't even want to tell you what I ate today!!!! I feel like a failure.

    Feeling Like A Failure...

I am in constant communication with my doctor (about every 2 - 4 weeks). The challenge is that I swell pretty signifiantly after each fill, so I have to go very slowly (about .25 cc each fill). I'm back there on Tuesday but if I keep eating like I am, I'll gain 5 lbs. by then!

    Kentucky Bander

I'm in Louisville. I have 2 kids (5 and 3) am 36 and was banded in May of 2013. I'm down 51 lbs (from my highest before pre-op diet). Hope everyone is well!

    Louisville??

I'm in a Louisville. Congrats on the band! I was banded in May 2013. How are you doing?
  13. How many calories do you eat? With all that exercise, you might not be eating enough. I was at a plateau for a few months, increase my calories to 1,250 and now the weight is coming off. I have to admit some of my plateau was due to poor choices... Good luck!

    A cry for a friend...

hoover123 - thanks so much for your reply and don't feel bad for asking what happened! We are all trying to learn everything about this process - the good and the bad. When she first had surgery, she was only able to eat or drink a very little (as in 1 sip of Water every 15 mintues). She was probably eating less than 500 calories a day and most of those were Protein shakes. She was told it was normal and that her stomach needed to stretch. Long story short, it was not normal. She had stoma stenosis. Basically the opening from her stomach to her small intestines was too small and the food/liquids coudn't get through. (apparently this quite common with bypass) She had a procedure where they inserted a balloon to stretch it. 10 days later she went to the ER with horrible abdominal pain. It took about 12 hours for them to figure out that she had sepsis, where bowel matter leaks into the blood stream. If it's not fixed via surgery, it's fatal the mixing of fluids (I'm not exactly certain how) shuts down your organs. As they were wheeling her into the OR (14 hours after she got to the ER), she went into caradiac arrest and died. Had they got her into OR earlier, all things considered, she'd be fine. The autoposy won't be back for 14 -16 weeks. I'm not sure if the sepsis was caused from the procedure or something else...

  17. I went in for a fill yesterday and got 1cc added, for a total of 9ccs (in a 14 cc band). In the past, I'd feel great after a fill and within a week or two could eat anything/as much as I wanted. So frustrating! My doctor thinks that I swell pretty significiantly after a fill and suggests that, even thought it's uncomfortable, I need to get over the hump of being swollen and when the swelling goes down, I'll be in the green. How long until the swelling goes down? I'm tight!!! I can keep Water down, but I'm definitely not comfortable nor can I eat anything more than Soup, applesauce and yogurt...and very little at that. I've probably had 300 calories in the past 24 hours. I just want this feeling of being sore to go away and be in the green!

    Heartbroken

One of my best friends and I decided to embark on the WLS journey together. We both kept it very private and really only talked to each other about it. I had lap band on May 9, 2013, she had gastric bypass on July 2, 2013. I am absolutely heartbroken to say that she passed away this week as a result of the surgery (just over 2 months after the surgery) I'm lost. I've devastated. I'm so sad for her husband and two young children. This doesn't change the statistics. We all know the dangers of WLS. It just sucks that it was SO close to home.

    Heartbroken

Thank you so much for your support. Your words mean more than you'd know. She had surgery on 7/2/13 and, immediately following the surgery, felt great. (She lost 85 lbs in 2 months). She was shocked at how little she could eat or drink (only a sip of Water every 10-20 minutes) and was told that was normal, that her new pouch had to stretch a bit. She never seemed to be able to eat more and then, as she added solids, she started to have unbearable acid reflux and vomiting. She couldn't go a day (and sometimes a meal) without vomiting. She had an endoscopy about 6 weeks after surgery and found out she had stomal stenosis. Basically the hole from her stomach to her small intestines was tiny, too tiny (most likely from scar tissue building up from the surgery). She had to have the hole stretched via endoscopy. She had that done and was beginning to feel a bit better. Then, 9 days later, she had horrific abdominal pain. She went to the ER at 10:00 am and found out she had sepsis, which is a leak of bowel matter into the bloodstream. She passed away just after midnight. There's no doubt I'm on this mission for the both of us. Each and every pound lost means more today than it ever did. Good luck on your journey and count your blessings!
  20. I got a fill yesterday (.5 cc) and came home, started dinner (for my kids - I'm on liquids and my husband is traveling). As I was setting the table, I took my Vitamins and it immediately got stuck. It was the worst stuck episode I've ever had. Finally threw up but still had horrible pain. Couldn't get liquids down, significant burping and chest pain. I could throw up at any point. Went to bed and it was ever worse. Acid, coughing, burping. Woke up every 20 minutes or so, the whole night. Went to to Doctor first thing this morning and they took .25cc out. Still too tight. I couldn't keep liquids down. Went back a second time and they took a full cc out. Instant relief, thank God!!! It was the worst feeling of my life!! I'm going to be SO gun shy with fills moving forward. If anyone ever asks what's the one thing I wish I had known before doing lapband, it would be how long and hard it is to find the green zone.
  21. I am 3 months post op. I have 8.5cc in my 14cc band. After each fill, I feel great for about 3 weeks, then I have NO restriction. I can eat anything! Am I doing damage by eating more/not taking small bites during this time? I don't get stuck at all. I have a fill tomorrow but have been out if control today!!!
  22. After I get a fill, I feel great...for about 3 weeks. I have to take small bites, eat small portions and am satisfied for about 3-4 hours. After about 3 weeks it's like the restriction goes away. I can eat larger portions and larger quantities! Anyone else experience this? Thank God I have an appointment tomorrow :-)

Do I really need another fill???

It's still worth meeting with your doctor, providing an update and talking through things with you, at least for the first year. Just because you have an appointment doesn't mean you need to get a fill. Congrats on your success!
