  1. Hi Lisa! My name is Maggie! My surgery date is July 3, the day after my birthday and week after an out of town commitment I have. Here's to no birthday dinner/cake/ or ordering food while traveling! WE CAN DO THIS it's amazing to me how much my life revolves around food. I started my liquid diet today and it's just crazy. I'm currently planning grocery shopping, clipping coupons, and staring at food ads everywhere lol.
  2. Hello! I begin my liver reduction diet on Sunday per my own initiative after discussing it on here with all of you...my surgeon isn't requiring it. I am so excited! However, because I will be on liquids for virtually 4 weeks beginning Sunday, I want to know how you all "change it up" with your shakes. Currently I have vanilla, unflavored, and some chocolate Protein powder. I need to get more chocolate. I would like to get some suggestions from all of you on how to keep variety in my liquid diet. Here's my plan so far: -Add peppermint extract to chocolate shake -Add unflavored powder to broth -1 sugar free Jello per day -Add cinnamon and stevia to vanilla shake Any other good suggestions while in the liquid phase?? Thank you in advance! Good work to all of you!!!!
  3. Congratulations on your surgery date!!! Yay! Mine is July 3rd! I'm so thankful for this forum, it makes everything so much easier. Good luck in the coming week and a half!
  4. Okay, and I can still take straight Tylenol right? As long as it doesn't have any aspirin in it? I know I can't have any ibpreufen or aspirin.
  5. I was told by MANY physicians and professionals during the process to do bypass, not band. However, two women in my family nearly died from complications of the surgery and are continually malnourished to this day. I refuse to go through that. I chose band because of the gradual progress and minimal invasion. YOU CAN DO THIS! You have the control and you have the power
  6. Hello all, I have my surgery scheduled for July 3rd, so it's thirteen days away. Sunday I start my 10 day pre-op liquid diet. I'm starting to feel concerned bc I'm coming down with what feels like a very familiar sinus infection. I started mucinex every 12 hours and pushing Water, hot tea and Vitamin C. My question to you is: I'm pretty much in trouble if I have to go on an antibiotic, right? I can't take any NSAIDs or aspirin products starting Sunday. Soooooo, not sure what to do. Thoughts/suggestions? Maggie
  7. Hey all... I finally took initiative and joined my local gym with a lap pool. I was on the swim team in high school (I swam in the slow lanes, but it kept me in shape!) so I know "how" to swim and I can honestly say it's the most confident I feel about. Anyway, I haven't truly swam since high school. That was 100lbs ago. I am pre-op and starting to get nervous for my first swim tomorrow. Thoughts of "how will I get in and out of the pool?" "Will the ladder break?" "What if I slow others down trying to work out and swim around me?" Are starting to consume me and I have to be awake to leave for the gym in seven hours! These thought patterns are what got me to this weight in the first place. Ugh. I guess what I'm asking is: if anyone out there had these doubts or worries, please reply. Also, any avid swimmers out there? Give me some advice. I know technique. I'm just nervous about the logistics of my weight and capabilities. Thanks Maggie
  8. I just got word yesterday that I was approved for my surgery for July 3rd; I couldn't be more thrilled! I am so excited. I had to transfer to a different surgeon, though, because after months and months of being promised that my surgeon's office would pull through, they weren't able to be covered under my insurance. I'm okay with this because I "clicked" better with my new surgeon...she didn't pressure me to pursue a different procedure. My first surgeon told me I would not be successful with Lapband because as a woman with my BMI, I have too much weight to lose and my "hormones would be working against me." I understand his medical and professional expertise; however, I found the way in which he approached it was very rude and discouraging. I chose Lapband because it is the least invasive and two women in my family have had severe complications to gastric bypass--a concern which he ignored when I voiced it. It was a very frustrating process! Anyway...all of my pre-op testing is complete and now I wait for July 3rd! However, my new surgeon doesn't require a liver reduction diet! I was shocked because the prior surgeon required a 12 day pre-op liquid liver reduction diet. I've been preparing for this and purchased the materials, so I'm fairly certain I'm going to continue with it. What are your thoughts everyone? My new surgeon is very credible, I trust her and I understand every surgeon is different. I'm also looking forward to the liver reduction diet to help start with curbing my food addiction. This surgery and the post-op diet are my tools to help me win this battle. Thank you for reading and look forward to hearing from you. You are all brave and I commend you for your efforts to become healthy. Keep it up. Stay true to you, Maggie
