  1. Hey Folks! Just looking to see if there are any local Bandsters in the Nebraska Panhandle that frequent this page? If so tell me a little about you and who your doctor was and how its been since your surgery! I had Dr. Jeffery Holloway. He was great. Feel free to ask me anything!!
  2. Wash them and dry them as well as you can. If you don't they will make your sauce watery. I have had them, not to bad. I agree that spaghetti squash is good too but it has carbs. I will enjoy the noodles every so often but not often. I pick mine up at a local health food store called "Nutters".
  3. I did not start off as a specific diet eater but then I wasn't losing so I asked around and my nurse recommended Atkins. I could not tell you how many calories I eat a day but not many. My doctor does not want me to eat unless I am hungry. I eat my protien 3 bites to one veggie If I am having veggies. Sometimes I am not that hungry or I am having a tight day. Only recently have I been active in getting my water in. I hate water with a passion. HAHA. it is getting easier tho! Karen: I am a boring eater too. I stick to what I know!! I do not eat bread...I like chicken, ground beef...some days...and turkey bacon. I actually got stuck on a piece of turkey on Christmas so I am off of that for a few seasons...haha lucky for me its not coming up anytime soon.
  4. I do not drink often. I had my surgery and since then I have had a few drinks...It takes me a while to get them down and I really don't crave them. I will have a drink here and there, but honestly I don't drink much anymore not sure if it was the band or just the realization that I am trying to lose weight and don't need to knock back empty calories all the time...This whole carbonation thing is crazy. Having a drink won't kill ya. The carbonation is mostly a gas thing. It makes you uncomfortable is all. I can take gas-x and have no problem drinking those lovely carbonated beverages on occasion. Hope this helps. Remember they have no benefit to you other than being tasty and a social thing. Losing weight and getting healthy is way more important....save the alcohol for important occasions. Good luck!!
  5. Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Just a warning...there will be negative nellies but do not let them get you down. I am one to say that the band is a good choice for some people. (I have been banded 9 months now). I have had both the good and bad with my band, but when it was bad...it was because I did something to it. I was first going to have the RNY. I changed my mind because my mom had the RNY and I was aware that they do not absorb nutrients as well as those with lab band. I know I want to have children in the near future and I wanted to be able to give them every drop of nutrients I could. I also wanted to be able to let my band out if I needed to eat more in order for my child to have what it needed. Say while breast feeding. So that is why I decided to go with lap band. Again good luck and feel free to check out my blog wshfullyshrnkng.tumblr.com I recently started blogging again and hopefully it will be helpful to you. GOOD LUCK!!
  6. I have a blog that I go back and forth on...I blog for awhile then I fall out of it..well I am back at it again. As of two days ago...If you stay tuned tho I will be sure to add more. Also I have a youtube channel that I am starting to make videos on. I only have one posted right now that's weight related but I will be posting many more. Check my links page on my blog for the link to my youtube video. Best of luck on your surgery and weight loss! wshfullyshrnkng.tumblr.com Feel free to ask me anything. I am looking for suggestions on what to write about and what to make videos about
  7. Hello Folks! I am looking for suggestions for different meals to cook that are Atkins Introduction friendly please Also tell me if you are doing Atkins? How long you have been on it? How well it has worked for you? and How you got started on Atkins? My Answers: I have tried it 3 times now (Just started over again). I have been on it for two days now. It has worked for me in the past and seems to be working for me now. and I got started on it because of the suggestion of one of the Main nurses at my surgeons office. Now your turn!!
  8. Hello! I have been banded for 9 months as of today. I am down almost 50 pounds. I had my banding, then had to have my gallbladder taken out, got set back, and now I am back on track. My question to you folks is this: What does your diet consist of? I am on Atkins. Restarted at the 20-25 net carbs a day (introductory phase), I upped my Water intake, started taking Fiber supplement for obvi reasons....Now I want to know what you are all doing?
  9. Hmmm...My Bucket List....Guess I should start one! 1) Fly in a plane comfortably. 2) Go to an amusement park (not be worried about not fitting...it was close last time I was at one) 3) Take photo's with my horses and look like I belong there...(I always look gigantic even next to a half a ton animal.) 4) To have my boyfriend carry me a crossed the threshold of our new home on our wedding night. 5) Go on a road trip and take pictures with all the crazy attractions that are out there...example: biggest ball of yarn, Largest Thermometer...etc. That is a start. Maybe I will make a video about some others in the future. Good luck everyone.
  10. Okay here is MY OPINION...I am not a medical professional BUT I wanted to share my opinion. First off, My doctor says to only eat when you are hungry. If you are not REALLY hungry all those times a day...don't eat. Also my doctor and his staff (nurses who have had WLS) suggest doing Atkins. Might be something worth trying. Also could it be that you need to spice things up? Maybe your body is in a rut. I know if I eat a certain type of food to often and do the same exercises a ton that my body goes "eh this is nothing" So maybe try taking a class at your local gym to spice things up. Another thing that was suggested to me is to not eat after 7pm at night. The food basically just sits there. You normally are far less active after that time at night. I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I have been there. You can get through this. Your body is just past the shock of not being able to eat so much so now its going to take that much more work to make it disappear. GOOD LUCK!!
  11. I too have days where I seem to have more pain under my left rib (My port is healthy and lives below my ribs). I found that pain to be gas related typically but I do believe that occasionally my tubing makes its way up that direction and irritates me. There are days I can not lay on that side. My doctor said its all normal and I have had it checked out via test and such. Its all good. Good luck!! Let us know what happens at your doctors apt.
  12. SIMPLE...GAS-X It is my savior. I had not had a fill in like 2 months and had like no restriction. BUT I was getting gas pains from certain foods. Then I discovered Gas-X and OMG it is AMAZING!! haha. I would try that before you go getting a unfill. I feel much better now. If I feel it coming on, I chew a pill and within a few minutes I feel relief. I recently got a fill and the gas pains were more extreme...used my Gas-X and problem solved. Best of luck!! Let us know what you do and or what happens!!
  13. I agree with this as well. I have lost 50 pounds that is a lot for any person. I look better than I did before but I still see those flaws. I can only imagine how bad I will beat myself up when I do get down to being that person that people call thin, healthy, skinny. Don't get me wrong I am ready to be there...but I know I will pick at myself just as I do now. My brain has been wired like this for a long time. It won't fix its self. I have to consciously work on improving my thought process.
  14. That is actually a really neat way of thinking about it. I had never thought about it that way. I have done that before, felt that I had more room to squeeze through only to bump or knock something over with my body. Thanks for that prospective. It still sucks thinking I am not that big only to be proven wrong lol. Dang skinny inner goddess! I read a few other post and I laughed with a few of the things I seen such as BURN IT...talking about a unflattering picture...stole the words right out of my mouth!!
  15. I am not in the same boat. I have only had my band for 9 months...yes there are times its been bad for me...but it was because I was bad to it. If that makes sense. What I want to tell you is that you can do this. My mom went off the wagon for awhile and she has come back with a vengeance She has lost below her previous "lowest" weight and is doing very well. She had RNY which I know is different, but my belief is that you can do this. IF you try again I know you can do this. Don't get to big of a fill. Start out small and work your way up. To tight is not right and too loose is not good either. I am here if you want to chat. I have battled the "can't get food down except ice cream and chips" deal too. Good Luck!!
  16. Look....We ALL eat badly from time to time...anyone who says they NEVER slipped up I would call them a liar...Let that 5 pounds be a warning to you to get your act together! I am not beating on you or anything...I am speaking from experience...I have been in "that" place for a month. I am getting back on track and just after one day ONE DAY of changing my habits...I lost 4 pounds. Yes I know some of it was probably water weight, but I have maintained that loss all week. It will get easier the lighter and healthier you get. You will start to see the brighter side. I have wavered but now I am coming back that much stronger. Message me anytime and we can chat. I am here for you. We are going through this as a community and it takes time to change years of eating that way. YOU CAN DO THIS!! When you're bored...find a new way to keep yourself occupied. Take up some type of art...get out and exercise...make youtube videos talking about your struggles. Do anything except eat...that head hunger is the worst. But I have faith you can overcome it. You just have to try really hard to get yourself in check. Good Luck!!
  17. I have always hated that people leave things because there are those people who feel the need to always rain on everyone's parade. It's a fact of life that no matter what we do...there will always be someone there criticizing us and trying to make us feel small and beneath them. Our decision is just that. It's OURS! No body can tell us what to do, when to do it, or how to do it. For some lapband is right, others its RNY, others its the sleeve and then there is normal Exercise and Healthy eating. None of these ways are wrong. Some of us just need the added help of a WLS to get us in gear and to assist our healthy eating and fitness. I could never figure out why some had the need to bash our choice...it doesn't affect them so what part does it play in their life? I am glad you didn't leave because I enjoy all the support you offer.
  18. I figured I was not the only one!! I posted some pictures of my before an during and boy was I shocked when I seen the pictures of myself in my new "super cute" outfit I picked out...I look like I was crammed into it and the shine makes it look like I am about to burst! I was mortified to have to go to my christmas party looking like that but it was the only outfit I had with me. Out in public my view of myself gets much worse...I feel like I can hear the sales people saying...what is she doing in this store?? we don't sell HER size. I have never heard them say anything but I can only imagine what they might be thinking. On another note...great job on the weight loss! keep it up...I'm already jealous of you haha.
  19. First off...great job on the weight loss!! I always thought I was fat as a teenager...I know at one point I was like 150 and boy did I think I was the biggest person ever! Now I look at that number like its made of gold!! haha. I grew up with a mom who was plus sized as well. I never saw her for as big as she was until she lost the weight. I remember how people would talk about how big someone was and would say the same thing..."oh that person must weight over 200pds!" as though 200 was the magic number where you went from being normal to being a fatty. I was raised with a grandma who was critical of my weight and that has always affected me. I always hoped I would get healthy and thin just to get her to stop talking about my weight like I had committed some sin by being fat. What gets to me a lot is seeing pictures of me on my horses...they weigh 1000+ pounds yet ALL I see is my big butt up there! ugh...
  20. I call the rolls on the back my back boobs. Once I have kids and lose that weight I'm going to have those things cut off...hopefully by then it will just be lose skin anyway!! I think I was in that same boat. I made sure to avoid mirrors that were bigger than normal bathroom mirrors. I knew what size I wore...and I dealt with it. Pretty crazy. I am thankful for people snapping pictures of me but at the same time I'm just yelling internally "NOOOOO!!"

  22. Hey everyone....I am writing to tell you about something I am experiencing and wonder if any of you have ever experienced it before and I would like to hear YOUR story!! How you delt or are dealing with the situation, If you have conquered it I want to hear how you feel now. My Story: I have this image of myself. I see myself as a larger person. I don't see myself as a morbidly obese person like my weight and BMI would suggest. I can look at myself in the mirror...see my collar bones, my cheek bones, my picture perfect face if you hold the camera slightly above your head and twist it a tad to the side as if to show the profile of my face. I am okay with what I see...some days I even think I look pretty. Then I step in front of a larger mirror that shows more of my body. I am not happy. I see a chunky girl. Yes my clothes, weight, and BMI all say I am this chunky girl but on the inside looking out that's not what I picture people seeing. There is no way I have that many rolls, that bumpy of a tummy, that second set of boobs on my torso and the third pair on my back. Then I see a full body photo...I cry sometimes, other times I just get mad, sometimes I stand there for 10...15...sometimes 30 minutes trying to take more body pictures as if my camera had glitched and put this monstrosity in front of me. Who do those hips belong too? Those chunky legs? Again the tummy.... That's not me...Then I eventually come to the realization that it is in fact me. That is my body...that IS how people see me....That camera isn't broken...how I see myself is. Is this the reason I got to be as big as I am? Inner monologue saying, "girl you are delightfully chunky!" When all the while I am actually just getting more and more obese. How could I not see myself as that same person in the mirror. I have always seen myself as a number and that not coordinating with how I looked to others. It wasn't until I seen 283 that my heart jumped and I plummeted out of my body for a brief moment to realize how big I had gotten. As I dropped weight I crawled right back in and have not seen anything that outside me again until someone is so cruel as to snap a picture of me...Maybe its motivation but then again its also torture. Why can I not see myself as I am...Is the inner skinny and healthy me...refusing to see the real me? Let me know your thoughts, opinions, suggestions, and most of all YOUR story...I am still working on seeing myself how I am so I can see the changes in my body but meanwhile...I seek your support, knowledge...etc.
  23. I have come not to expect a lot from my gramma. She is "that" type of person. Whenever the family gets together (including extended family) and then they head home...my poor grampa gets an earful! My gramma can be a sweet loving person...don't get me wrong...but she can also be quite hateful. We have a long standing history of our own personal battles against each other. Part of which is she sees my mom as a screw up and I see my mom as someone who could poop gold. haha. She hated when my mom had her weight loss surgery. She had a fit about how its cheating, it will never work, etc. So when I chose to have my surgery I didn't tell any of my family. Only my mom, dad, and boyfriend and his family know. Which was more people then I wanted to know but My boyfriend tells his family everything. I do have close friends who know and recently people at my school...only because I know they are not going to go running to my gramma. I hate that I have to keep my surgery quiet because I would love to have her support but I know that's not how it is. It's not her fault...its how she was raised...and sadly she wasn't able to change her ways as an adult. life goes on and I will continue to battle my weight...and hopefully I will conquer it soon and then I can go buy a whole new wardrobe to show off in...haha
  24. Congrats on the weight loss! I probably would have decked that distant uncle had it been me!! I guess another experience I had that I haven't shared is this: I am a part of a club at my college... Our club decided to go buy shirts for our members at the local embroidery shop. While I was there my best friend and I demanded that we be allowed to order woman's and men's shirts this year. Our adviser was always trying to make us lady's wear men's shirts, which ended up meaning we swam in our shirts. Well he finally said okay go ahead. I told the lady I wanted a 2x Shirt. She told me I would never be able to fit into that. I told her yes I can. And she said no it won't fit, woman's runs smaller than men's. I told her I was losing almost 10 pounds a month and she said "ah good for you...maybe you should come back in a few months and we can order that for you." she then proceeded to tell me I should order a 2x in men's and pulled one off the rack. I took it in my hands feeling numb...I then said...I would also like to try on the 2x woman's. So reluctantly she found one and sent me to the back to try it on. I cried for a few minutes in the back and then tried on the shirts. The men's fit okay but was a bit baggy and not flattering at all. The woman's was a tad snug but I knew I would fit it when it finally arrived. So I went out and ordered that dang 2x woman's shirt and a few weeks later I picked it up and tried it on and said oh boy this fits real nice. She looked and said, "yes that fits very nice" Dang right it does Biotch...is what I wanted to say but I said, Thanks and walked out. Needless to say...the things that people can say to someone is amazing. I am just glad I could stick it to her...lol
