Timeline
If you are in Canada (Province of Quebec), our health insurance covers it 100%, but the process is about 2 1/2 years. In my sitaution, the operation has been postpone many times over a period of 6 months so it brings me to 3 years total.

March 2013 Surgery Dates?
I know exactly how you feel. My doc called me yesterday to postpone my op yet again!!! i've been postponed since September. It is very discouraging. I just felt like crying all day yesterday. How many times are they going to put me through this?? I know everything happens for a reason so we have to stay positive through this tough time...

Surgery Scheduled for March
Finally got my surgery date yesterday: March 25th !!! Can't wait. I am 3 weeks away from my pre-op diet so i'm allowing 1 meal per week at the restaurant before officially starting my pre-op diet (as I always did previously with hubby every friday anyway). I'm going for 3 favorite meals in a restaurant which is: vietnamese, 7 course meal at a belgium restaurant here in town and last, poutine (i'm from Quebec Canada ). Then i'll be happy with that and ready for my new journey! Can't wait!

From first consult to surgery..
It also depends were you live. Here in Canada the process is very long if you go through medicare. From the 1st consultation to date of surgery it was 3 years for me. Getting banded march 25th. In those 3 years I had about 20 consultations with the NUT and Kinesiologist, about 2 sets of blood work, apnea test, heart, gastroscopy, anesthesist, etc. It feel like I had something about every 1 1/2 - 2 months. BUT i know this is necessary so its all worth it...

Has snyone ever used the Realize band?
hello, i'm from Canada and most doctors here use the Realize band. I am not banded yet but should be in march. I was told that the Realize band is a very good product. There was a recall on the realize band a few years ago but it was not a recall due to defective units but it was a recall to replace them with the newer version. The recall was on unused bands and not already installed bands. So, this means that all doctors using the realize band should be using the newer version. Again, this is what I was told by my doctor and I had searched it on internet and it seems like its legit information. I did find information that backed it up.

Getting lapbad out of town...
I’m sure people do it if they have money and dont want to wait. I’m from quebec and quebec insurance pays it BUT i’ve been waiting for more than 2 ½ years (and i’m still waiting). Unfortunately the Canadian health system is not the fastest....

Getting lapbad out of town...
I’m assuming if these people go to the U.S. they have to pay the surgery out of pocket??? I think most insurance do not cover operations in other countries.

Getting lapbad out of town...
Or simply ask your doctor to refer you to somebody

New to forum, having surgery doubts
This is why I chose to NOT tell anybody except just a few that I knew would not influence me in my decision. YOU have to chose if you need/want this and nobody else. These people are not professionals and they do not know the impact of obesity on your health. And like Sharonk said, go with your heart....

Suppression garments
Bought my « shapewear » at Pennington. Also, check out Wallmart, they have a Yoga-Pilates clothes section and I found comfortable pants, tank-tops, ¾ pants, all under 17$ each....

Cleaning Frenzy~
Same here, I am starting to clean the house, clean the fridge, clean the pantry and getting rid of things I don't want to be eating later. My grocery lists are done (pre-op, than post-op week 1-2-3-4), and i'm preparing myself to get that phone call from my doc to start my per-op diet. I'm ready, can't wait!

Hungry and frustrated!!
I was told by my nutritionist that you need protein to function and keep muscle mass but carbs is what "fills you" (sends the message to the brain and satisfy you). This is why my diet will have some carbs in small amounts. But you have GOOD carbs and BAD carbs. You just need to prioritize the good ones...

Not doing too bad
You should go to My Fitness Pal and use the food journal. Its super easy and you can see how much protein, fat and calories you intake in a day vs what is suggested for you depending on weight/height and activity level. I use it now and I think its SUPER pratical....

Pre Op Diet
I also do not have a liquid diet. I have a super low-fat high protein diet. I still can eat meat eggs and 1 whole weat toast a day. Veggies are all you can eat except no potatoes, corn or peas. I’m SO glad to be honnest, I know people struggle with the liquid only diet. 48 hrs prior to my surgery I will have more of a liquid/yogurt/cottage cheese phase. Still reasonable in my opinion. I guess all doctors have their methods that works for them.

Anyone try Atkins?
I would try the south Beach diet, I feel its more « balanced » than Atkins (good carbs vs bad carbs, good fats v. bad fats etc…)
