I travel quite a bit for my work, have any of you had any problems with flying (in planes) long or short distances? How long after surgery should you wait? Should I get approval to fly from my Doc?

Well I've told my wife who told her mom & dad, and sister & bro-in-law, and I have told my mom & dad, and my boss obviously to get the time off work. My Boss is very supportive, as I have known him for 10yrs so that was awesome. I feel I need to tell my siblings, 2 brothers & my sister. But not sure when or how. I have also told my best friend he's been around since I was 2, so he was super supportive. I have my doubts every now and then for a few seconds, and then I remind myself of why, and I'm good to go. I have a surgery date, but just waiting on approval which I should get next week, and then I will tell the rest of my family. And maybe my other best friend(he lives far away, so hardly have the chance to see him).

I get my pre-op diet on the 15th, 1 month before surgery. I'm sure it won't be the whole month

Well today I told my boss, who was very supportive. Such a relief, luckily I have known him for almost 10years and so he is very understanding. I now need to tell the rest of my family. That may be difficult but I need to.

It's summer in South Africa now, so I'll be ready for next summer ;-p

Gastroscopy done and dusted. Now to get the final paperwork done and tell my company. And then it's hopefully surgery time on the 15th Feb '13

I will be!! 15th Feb. Cannot wait, had lots of ppl hammering me with questions about if I'm ready and telling me my life will change forever etc. I just cannot wait to have it done, for me the questioning just makes me want it more. I know that what I'm going to go through in the next year will be hard, and possibly test my marriage and relationships with friends and family. I would just rather have 1yr of difficulties rather than 50yrs of difficulties cause I am so overweight.

So it's the 9th Jan, and I am going to have my scope done today. This is going to be interesting. My Gastroscopy is at 13:30 and the Receptionist who did the booking said I cannot eat or drink since midnight. That's 13.5hrs of nothing to drink,not even water. Is that common?I think I'm gonna dehydrate. Anyone else had this procedure?

So things are progressing, I did not have my pre-op scope done, but I will be doing that on the 9th Jan. my surgery date is set for the 15th Feb. cannot wait!! Going to start my authorizations now. Hopefully be approved by next week.

I am going in for my pre-op scope and checkup. On the 2nd. I made the decision to do this a few months ago. I know it's THE best decision I have and will make. I will find out my surgery date on the 2nd and get my approval done hopefully its painless.

Go for it! I'm 352 and I am in the same boat. Nothing works. And mostly because I am morbidly obese.

I have to agree "morbid" is a very disturbing word. But I am so glad I have made the decision to become "Normal" instead of Morbid. Next week on the 2nd Jan I am going in for a pre-op checkup and then everything goes in for medical Aid Authorization. With my surgery hopefully happening in early feb. .

Well I am sitting on 348 at the moment and hopefully when I have my surgery in Feb '13 I will be hopefully at 250 this time next year. You are all a Huge inspiration for me. I don't have Huge Goals and don't expect it to fall off me, but I am gonna take it one day at a time.

Well in 21 days, yes 3 weeks I am gonna be going for my pre-op checkup. I am a little nervous. I really want this. Haven't told the boss yet but I'm kinda sure it won't be a problem to take the time off for my surgery. I haven't told many people, my wife told my in-laws and I told my mom, and then my father. No they not divorced, just thought it would be easier telling them at different times. No one else in my family knows. But I need to start telling them. I am not sure if I am embarrassed or ashamed that I have to have this surgery. But I know it's the right thing for me. I dream of the day I can fit into normal clothes and not have to stress about shopping for clothes. Or do activities that normal people do. I will be happy when I can get a confirmation from the medical aid. And then get it done!!
