  1. I am almost 2 years post surgery. I have not had any problems but recently i have been having some more stuck episodes. I have a pain on the left side by more port and I feel sick to my stomach. I dont have any fever and I can get food down for the most part. I am nervous about slippage? There have been tremendous turnover at the facility I went to and I haven't been back in almost a year. Any thought ? When should I be worried?
  2. The practice I belong to has a but new dietician who specializes in weight loss patients. She has a completely different approach. I met with her and really like her but her approach is very different., Getting enough protein has always been important when I met with her that was the primary focuss. The previous dietician had me focus on calories and I know alot of people on this site focus on size ( cup) but she told me if I focus on the protein ( 75-90 grams per day) the calories will take care of themselves. Has anyone else heard of this approach?
  3. I went for my 5 1/2 week check up. My weight loss has slowed down. Still losing but slowly so the doctor gave me my first fill. 3 1/2 cc in a 10 cc band. It was no big deal and I was done in 5 minutes. I am excited because I think this will help out. For all those worried about their first fill it was nothing and I have not had any problem!!!
  4. Good morning all, I am trying to stay positive and I understand that plateuas happen but I didnt think I would hit one so soon. I am averaging 1100 calories per day and I am exercising over an hour a day ( 45 minutes of cardio and 15-20 minutes of weights/nautilus). I am drinking at least 4.5 liters of water a day. The scale goes back and forth on the same 1 pound. I dont want to be discouraged and I dont expect miracles but at least 1-2 pounds a week. I have tried to have a few higher calorie days to mix it up but that hasn't worked. I have to go for my 5 week check up on Thursday and I feel like such a loser I almost want to cancel( I won't because that is not the answer). I also have been watching the biggest loser for inspiration but then you see them drop such huges amounts of weight and it makes me feel worse. I understand that is a unique circumstance on the show but still... I think I am just a little down after the initial success. Has this happened to anyone else?
  5. Thanks for the responses. I use Bodymedia to track my food intake and it also monitors how many steps I have taken, how much time I am active ( also discerns between moderate and intense) and how many calories I actually burn based on my weight and activity. It can show you a graph of the difference and I am averaging between 1000 - 1200 deficit each day. I will talk to the doctor and just keep plugging away.
  6. Congratulations to you and your mom. How great that you will both be able to take this journey together. The pain will get better by the day and in a week you feel 100% better. Feel better soon.

    Weight loss since surgery

How many calories are you all eating? I am starting to panic. I was banded on 11/26/2012 and I have lost 30 pounds( including pre-op) but it has come to a screaching hault!! I dont know why! I am losing/gaining the same pound and half back over the last weeks. I started back to the gym and have been doing 45 minutes to an hour of cardio. I woke up today and I am so sore on my left side that I think I may have done too much. I have been averaging about 1100 -1200 ( high end) calories per day. I am still on soft foods so I do tend to have 2 shakes a day and then a one cup dinner. I am sure that this is an irrational emotional response but I see what everyone else is losing and I am afraid that I am failing.
  8. When I went to my surgeon and nurtionist they talked about 3 stages ( liquid, mushies and regular food). There is a new doctor who took over the practices and he is talking about the 7 stages ? They brought it up during a support group last night. I didnt want to ask in front of the group. I am gathering that they are several stages of solid food. Anyone else hear of this?

    Halfway there!!!

Congratulations !! Great inspiration to all us newbies
  11. So I was operated on 11/26 and my doctor quit on 12/3. I just met the new doctor and he is very nice. I have been lucky not really that hungry and not problems swallowing at all. I have lost 25 pounds ( including pre-op).I am sure it will slow down but I will take it for now. It is amazing the difference between doctors. I am on mushies and the new doctor said I can do chicken if I cut it up and chew alot. I am still drinking 1-2 shakes a day to try and get the protein plus I dont mind them. This doctor told me to try and be between 1000 -12000. I have been averaging 750. I guess we will see

    how long

    6 Weeks for me
  13. All of those things plus Gas X strips and chapstick. I also found liquid tylenol very helpful. I got the chicken broth from restaurants and strained it. I found the taste much better. Good luck !!

    so excited!!!

Wow !! SO inspiring. Am I reading this correctly ( 93 lbs in 3 months)? Can you share your plan ( how much are you eating/working out etc). I am sure many of us would love to see what you are doing that has caused such great success.
  15. I also couldn't take percoset ( although mine was liquid) because it was making me ill. The doctor basically told me to deal with it and the pain will pass. It was only bad for a day or two . It was only last week so I remember it clearly. but by the start of the second week it was like a whole new day. Hold on and use a heating pad ( saved me). Thinking of you .. it will be better soon.

    Advice Wanted

I just was banded so I cant relate to your fears., I was the same way and I had some success with the pre-op so I second guessed myself. Why can't I do it on myself or with the shakes. The answer is I haven't done it in the 10 years I have been overweight. It is so normal and I spent alot of time on this site looking at other people's success. I tried to focus on the positive and how different my life will be a year from now. Best of luck and as the others say stay focussed on the prize

    Surgery Tomorrow Am

Good luck! I am sure you will do great. I am a week and half out and i feel great. In addition to chapstick dont forget Gas X strips and a heating pad. I also had liquid tylenol on hand. One thing that really helped me was chicken broth. I went to Panera Bread and got it and then just strained thru the broth. It was tastier and had some flavor.
  19. I have been listening to a series of hypnosis tapes by Tom Nicoli and they have been really helpful. They have one on emotional eating, one on stopping late night snacking ( not my issues) and one to induce your desire to exercise. They are about 20 minutes and I listen to them before I go to bed. I think they have helped my mood and motivation. Anyone else tried something similiar?
  20. I have only been banded for a week and my doctor does not do fill until 4-6 weeks which is fine. I keep hearing about new banders that have problems with getting food/water down. Am I correct that we dont have any "restriction" untl we get a fill? How dramatic is the change when you get your first fill?

A Week Later . How Is Everyone Feeling?

I would look into getting some of the powdered shakes. The one I am using is Bariatric Advantage and it has 27g of protein so it does seem to hold me longer than the premade shakes ( Atkins or Slimfast) that I used to use.
  23. I was banded last Monday ( 11/26) and had a very bad first week. I ended up staying an extra day and was back in the hospital on Friday. Thankfully this is a new week and I feel much better. Just a little tired but as of this morning I am done 23 pounds ( including the post op). I am meeting with the Nutrionist this Thursday and hope to move on to Mushies. Thank you to everyone that sent me a supportive post. I apologize I didn't respond right away but I was too sick. I did read them and knowing other people had experienced the same thing and came out the other way heled get me thru. I just wanted to see how everyone else is doing.?

A Week Later . How Is Everyone Feeling?

I am with you on the hunger. I am doing 3 shakes plus some chicken broth ( if I can't make it). I went to Panera bread and bought their Soup and strained the broth. It had so much more flavor and it has saved me for very few calories. How many shakes are you having? I am doing 3 ( with soy or Lactaid milk ) and I am averaging around 750 calories. What are you making the shakes with? We will get thru this. I am dreaming of some mashed potatoes!! I find alot of support reading this forum. Hope you feel better soon.

I was just banded last Monday and I am back to work ( although from home) today. The first week was tough but I feel great today. Just a little tired.
