A Week Later . How Is Everyone Feeling?

Recommended Posts

I was banded last Monday ( 11/26) and had a very bad first week. I ended up staying an extra day and was back in the hospital on Friday. Thankfully this is a new week and I feel much better. Just a little tired but as of this morning I am done 23 pounds ( including the post op). I am meeting with the Nutrionist this Thursday and hope to move on to Mushies. Thank you to everyone that sent me a supportive post. I apologize I didn't respond right away but I was too sick. I did read them and knowing other people had experienced the same thing and came out the other way heled get me thru.

I just wanted to see how everyone else is doing.?

Congratulations on feeling better and the weight loss! I am down about 8lbs just from the surgery. Not to be a Debbie downer but last week was easier for me....Today i am so hungry i could scream! I didn't know the hunger pains would be this strong, i am hoping it is just a bad day. The first week I didn't feel like eating but starting yesterday i was quite hungry and the Protein Drinks aren't cutting it (I am eating about 60 grams of Protein and drinking lots of water). My cals are about 500 (maybe a little more today). I am glad you get to go on mushies thursday, I need to wait until my first appt next wednesday:-(. I may sneak in some greek yogurt or cottage cheese before then. Wish I could say i was doing better, but today is not good  . Thanks for the post, hope all continues to go well for you!

I am with you on the hunger. I am doing 3 shakes plus some chicken broth ( if I can't make it). I went to Panera bread and bought their Soup and strained the broth. It had so much more flavor and it has saved me for very few calories. How many shakes are you having? I am doing 3 ( with soy or Lactaid milk ) and I am averaging around 750 calories. What are you making the shakes with?

We will get thru this. I am dreaming of some mashed potatoes!! I find alot of support reading this forum. Hope you feel better soon.

I was doing about 2-3 shakes a day all last week and this weekend, however yesterday I did 4 and today I have already had 2 1/2. I don't have powdered shakes so not mixing with anything. I do mostly Atkins Protein Shakes (they taste good and have 15 grams of protein) I feel like i can't fill up! My Dr. did not give me guidelines on calories but said to drink 60-70 grams of Protein per day. Glad to read i am not the only one so hungry  . I may do some campbells Tomato or creamy chicken Soup mixed well with skim milk if i can't take it...I think it is just a bad day and i will feel better tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement, i hope you enjoy your mashed potatoes :D

I would look into getting some of the powdered shakes. The one I am using is Bariatric Advantage and it has 27g of Protein so it does seem to hold me longer than the premade shakes ( Atkins or Slimfast) that I used to use.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
