  2. hi everyone!!! i live in nwla in the shreveport area. im going to baton rouge to have my surgery by dr. hargroder on 11-8-12..i'm very excited and nervous..i would really like to start a sleevers group in my area if anyone is interested..doesn't matter if your sleeved yet or waiting..I all alone is this journey and would love to actually meet someone that has had the surgery. I pray that i found a great surgeon and that I will have no complications and go on to live a much happier and healthier life..please message me if you are interested in starting a nwla group
  3. i wonder what size bougie he used on you. some doctors use a larger bougie therefore leaving you with a larger stomach..they range from 32 to 40. my dr uses a 34..i haven't been sleeved so i can't say for sure if what your going thru in normal but goodluck
  4. shabbychic, i know how you feel , i cant believe it is coming up so fast...it will be surgery day before we know it!!!!the first day of the rest of our lives
  5. awesome...i just scheduled mine for nov 8th....it still hasn't sunk in
  6. army girl i really think you are making the right decision because you have health problems due to weight and there is a high chance of other problems in the future so you are choosing to be healthier and happier. I'm nervous too , i think that must be normal..this is a huge decision and not a easy one so there is going to be nerves and "am i doing the right thing" going thru our head.I just want my health to improve and start enjoying life and hopefully start being more active with my two kids . my health problems are pretty serious and im scared that if i dont have the surgery that i wont live long enough to see my kids grow up and that thought really scares me , i want to be apart of everything in my kids lives!!! why are the support girls saying be more realistic??? do they not think you can get to 160..i totally think that your goal is realistic..actually i think you could get lower if you wanted..people say that exercising really makes a difference on how much you lose . good luck!!!!
  7. evonnrae im getting my surgery in baton rouge la...it would be awesome to have someone getting sleeved at the exact same time and place ..alteast we have our vst buds to go thru our experiences with. your right so many people just dont "get it" but the few that do really mean alot to me. i'm a pretty strong and steadfast person so even if i didn't have the support i would still get the surgery but it is still nice to have people in your corner.I feel like i'll never be skinny, the thought that a year from now ill be considered small/NORMAL.lol... is crazy and pretty unbelievable at this point..goodluck and keep in touch
  8. seems like alot of testing but i know it is for our safety!!!they didn't say anything about a stool test or sleep study so hopefully i won't have to do any of that.. im doing all my tests in one day and she said it takes about 3-4 hrs and they do it all then. im out of town so they do it this way so i only have to make the one trip.
  9. awesome!!!!you go girl...i weight the same so keep posting pics so i can see about where i may be...your gonna be a skinny minnie soooonnnn...yea!!!so are you glad you had te surgery? after the surgery was it miserable?
  10. awesome!!!yea im nervous to , thats normal i guess...where do you live? how much do you weight and what is your goal if u dont mind sharing?
  11. ok im scheduled for my preop and my surgery but i have no ideal what there going to do to me ..if there is anyone that can enlighten me on what the test are and what to expect.they told me some of the test but i dont even know what they mean..lol..thanks
  12. hello fellow sleevers....guess what???yup ill be getting my sleeve on nov 8th, im so excited and nervous of course. anyone else getting sleeved on the 8th also? i really hope this surgery works well for me and that i'll be a success story like all of you. I'm so thankful to have this forum of people that understand and dont think im crazy or say things like you dont need surgery because your "not that fat"..lol how many of us have heard that..yes im alittle lower on the bmi than most but i have a few , yes a few co morbidities and my pcp totally thinks i need the surgery from a medical standpoint which is why im doing it...my mom grabbed my stomach and said "uh you need to go put your spanx on before you leave" then later that night she said "your not that fat why do you need surgery"..ughhh she can really piss me off..so anyone about to be sleeved come on here and tell me your story and what is going thru your mind and the emotion you feel...just tell me everything ...
  13. i figured it would help.. my pcp suggested pain management for my back before surgery so that i wouldn't have to deal with that plus surgery pain but im scared because of all this meningitis outbreak. why oh why does everything have to be so difficult in life...
  14. i have my MRI from my last scan and will get a copy of my next one after surgery hopefully...he said he will probably do them periodically because of my back issues ,,i think it would be cool to see the disc looking normal instead of being smush and about to squirt out like donut filling...lol
  15. i have a quick question....i just had back surgery for a herniated disc (im only 29) and have already herniated another disc and ive got several bulging discs aswell ....so 1 of the reasons i need the get the sleeve is to loose this enormious amount of fat so i dont end up having to have another back surgery or worse a spinal fusion surgery which is horrible because i have to children under 2, so my question is to people who have had the sleeve and lost weight how significantly has it helped with you back pain and people with degenerative discs have they done a mri to see how your discs are doing after your weight loss? i'm just really hoping that this surgery will help my back and my high bp, pre diabetes, and degenerative disc disease thanks all
  16. i forget how i figured out how he did the spider surgery but possibly google or ask on here someone may know..after that if you can find anyone on the net then i would just start calling some well known reputable doctors in your area..is dr quebberman in cali..he was on doctors tv talking about the spider..if quebberban is near you i would get an appointment with him immediately because i hear he is awesome..i would go to him if i lived closer but i feel like ive found an excellent dr here in BR...
  17. thanks guys..yes she is a wonderful doctor and after speaking with her it makes this decision so much easier and will make me stronger and more confident when dealing with negative nancies who think im taking the easy road or its not needed..ill just say well the last time i checked you weren't a dr. and my actual dr. recommends this ...bam...lol...but really im a strong person but needed this support... hawkihoops, did you have a leak..what is going on with the major bleeding????
  18. just thought i would come on here and tell everyone about my doctors visit today with my pcp. I went today to talk with her about wls and was very nervous because i was worried that she wouldn't think that it was necessary and tell me to go on weight watcher or something like my mom said. i have a few health issues and i'm only 29 years old and she said due to my health issues and my minor disability which makes working out hard and i'm very limited right now. i've got a bad back and she is worried that if i keep herniating discs then i may end up having to have spinal fusion one day and that really worries her and me of course. she said that she 110% supports me and thinks that I need the surgery and i'm in crunch time and need to get this weight off sooner than later. She said she will do anything pre and post op to help me and keep me healthy and on the right track ..it was just such a relief to have my feelings validated by someone especially my dr. whom i trust and who really seems to get me. i just really made me happy because i only have 1 person that seems to understand this avenue and that is really is my only GOOD option...
  19. i forgot to ask if you would post some pics???
  20. mel-about how long did your surgery take? i'm most likely going to use a great surgeon that uses the spider as well ... i have two toddlers so im very interested in the spider for the quicker recovery time more than anything else...have u spoken with sleeve patients and compared the recovery time with spider vs lap???
  21. This is scary even knowing that it will come back so I know exactlly how y'all feel....this is def something I will talk to dr about and see what can be done to help. Some girl on you tube bought rogaine but I'm not sure if it helped or not.
  22. ive watched alot of you tube videos that address the hair loss issue and yes the hair will come back. from what ive learned it usually happens between 3-6 months post-op. not sure if it will help but im going to start vitamins before surgery and stay on them after and maybe that will help some...i dont want to lose my hair either!!!
  23. thats scary!!!im so glad that you went with your intuition and canceled your surgery..no matter where you get surgery , wether it is in the u.s. or abroad it is always wise to be careful who your surgeon is..it can be the difference in life or death. i'm not considering surgery in mexico but i appreciate your story. have you looked into other surgeons..people seem to like dr. alverez in mexico and he has alot of informational videos on you tube and patients for that matter..good luck
  24. i went to a seminar the other day and on one of the printouts it shows the different features and outcomes of the different surgeries and for the vsg it says that in the first year the average person can lose 46-83% of excess body fat...so there is a big difference from person to person i guess..it sure would be nice to lose 83% the first year...i really can imagine it!!!!!
  25. has anyone had the spider sleeve? what do you think? who was your surgeon? id love to see pics...
