So...I didn't change my mind about surgery, I am still having it. I have just decided to have the Sleeve done instead. I have wanted rny this whole time until I met with my doctor and she told me more about the sleeve. I was under the impression it was only for very very obese people and I didn't qualify for it. Come to find out it is actually going to be a little better for me because I am so young and there's no reason really to re route my itestines is what my dr. Says. I've done a ton of research on it and have decided that for me that is the best route to go. Unless of course for some reason my insurance wont approve it...let's hope that doesn't happen...but I just wanted to say thank u to everyone that has helped me on here and gave me advice and support, it means alot! Thanks so much for the support and nice comments everyone! It means a lot. I am waiting to find out from my insurance....I called them and they told me it covers the same way as it does for the rny but Im waiting to actually make sure the letter of approval goes through. The lady that deals with all the insurance stuff at my drs. Office said she hasn't ever had a problem with blue cross covering it ...so hopefully it does. Or I will def. Be back to RNY bc I know it covers that for sure lol. Yeah my doctor said bc im in such great health for being overweight she didn't see the need in the re routing. At my doctors office they require you to do 4 nicotine tests ...1 per month for 4 months if u were a smoker in the past. I just got my 4th nicotine test back and failed it. I was shocked. I couldn't imagine what had happend. Come to find out they failed to tell me to stay away from people who smoke because second hand smoke can show up on a test. 4 days before the test I was at a bachelorette party which was at a casino filled with smoke and our hotel room was a smoking room and almost every person was a smoker except me. I typed up a letter to the surgeon and faxed it to her explaning how I think this happend and that I do smoke. I already got my surgery date and if she decides to not trust me on what I am telling her about this test then my surgery will be pushed back. I don't know how to handle this....im sooo close and now this happends. Im a little upset with them because how can they expect me to not be around any single person who smokes without telling me that I shouldn't be....and besides that ..my husband is a smoker so its always on his clothing. The walk from obesity is on september 22nd at potters park zoo in lansing mi. Registration starts at 9am and the walk starts at 10 am. You can do 1, 2, or 3 mile walks. Its 25 dollars to register online ...not sure what the cut off date is to do so online...but u can also register at the walk for 35 dollars. If there is anyone from Michigan on this site I would like to share a piece of information with you. On september 22nd there will be a walk for Obesity at potters park zoo in Lansing MI. There is a registration fee but I am not sure how much yet and what time it starts. If anyone that lives close to lansing would like to come please private message me and I can get you more info when I know. This walk for obesity actually gives the proceeds to patients who are overweight and don't have insurance and cannot afford the surgery. Its amazing what they are doing! Hey everyone! I got great news. They said the levels weren't high enough to be concerned about. So the surgery is still on and I start my Meal Replacement stuff called new direction on august 28th. My dietician called me out of nowhere and said that she pleaded my case to the surgeon to go ahead with my surgery without any further appointments because I am so healthy and young and don't have anything medically wrong with me. She said I would be getting the call from the surgeons office within a week or so, and I unexpectedly got the call that same day. I just went in and met with the surgeon last Thursday and it went very well. My surgery is scheduled for september 24th (two days before my 23rd bday). But I do have to get a scope done before and hope to god nothing is wrong that'll delay surgery. I am soo excited! One thing that I found very odd was that the surgeon doesn't think the gastric bypass (rny) is the right surgery for me...she thinks I should have the vertical sleeve gastrectomy done. She seems to think that because I am so young and don't have diabetes that there is no reason to do re-routing. I was more confused than ever. I was under the impression that the sleeve was for people 400 pounds or more so I never even looked into it....now I don't know what to do. Is there anyone out there that has had the sleeve done? I have to know my decision by this coming week. So I guess im super excited but also a little stressed about having to make such a major decision in such a short period of time. So. Here is an update on where I stand with getting this surgery done. I started this process in early april and am finally almost done. I have a weigh in appointment on Tuesday just to show that I am continuing to lose a little bit of weight, then after that I have a nicotine test (my final one) on Wednesday and once I receive the results from that I can schedule my appointment with the surgeon hopefully the 2nd or 3rd week of august (if she doesn't decide to take a vacation) and then once I meet with her we schedule the surgery date. Im sooo excited. I've had a couple minor setbacks but nothing that has brought me down. Im trying to stay positive and remember that this is going to change my life for the better. I can't wait! Hopefully I pull a good number on the scale on Tuesday. My dietician wanted me to lose 5 lbs in a week to prove that im doing what they ask....which of course I am. Today is my last dietician appointment and the next step it to meet with the surgeon and schedule the surgery date...which will be 4 weeks out so I can do the Meal Replacement plan for 4 weeks. The doctor I am seeing is really strict with that kind of stuff I guess. It can cause bleeding ulcers in ur stomach and I believe they may have said it makes recovery time faster after surgery. It wasn't hard for me to quit because I've been quit for a while now....before I even started the process I was quit for like 4 or 5 months already. I hate these stupid nicotine tests though. They are holding me up. If I didn't have to do them I could have had surgery prolly this month. But now I gotta wait until like september. It sucks. But oh well. Thanks! The appointment went okay, but I did have to make one more dietician appointment, they didn't feel like I was doing well enough with getting in 5 to 6 meals a day consistently. But I also found out that I cannot meet with the surgeon to schedule my surgery date until after my 4th clean nicotine test since I use to be a smoker. So now the surgery probably wont be until late september were thinking. Im starting to get kind of scared now that its getting closer and closer to the end of the process before surgery. The past 2 weeks have been so hard! I haven't had surgery yet it isn't until september or october but I am trying to stay on track with weight loss and working out and I've been cheating several times ....like last night I went out and got a huge ice cream Sunday and felt horrible afterwards. I feel like a failure. My husband has been laid off here and there for about 2 to 3 days a week for the past 2 months and it has been very stressful. I decided to let my gym membership go because I couldn't afford to pay for it anymore. I have a horrible problem with binge eating. I use to be bullemic (sp) a long time ago and every now and then I binge eat and want to do it again...obviosuly I don't bc I know its not the right thing to do or healthy. I just keep wondering if I can really make these changes and do this. Im feeling kind of lost and sad lately. Has anyone felt like this before surgery? Idk maybe its because it is still so far away that im feeling this way. I just want to be able to change my life. Im only 22 ...I have alot of years ahead of me...hopefully. Today I had 3 appointments... one with the pyscologist, one with the dietician and one with the exercise specialist. I got clearances from the pyscologist and from the exercise specialist ...I have one more appointment with the dietician and should be all cleared to meet with the surgeon and schedule surgery. At the place I go to they make you do 4 weeks of meal replacement products to lose some weight pre op. So before surgery ill have to get that done. But its looking like its going to be in august now and we had thought september or october before. Im really excited to possibly have it moved up...although it seems like everytime I go in the possible month it will be happening changes. But that's ok as long as im a step closer to doing it. I went to a support group tonight which really got my motivation boosted back up. Im glad I have that option to go. I also learned that in september they are doing a walk for obesity at a local zoo and it raises money for people that cannot afford this procedure but need it done bad. So im going to be doing that. Thanks everyone! I was doing so good and lost ten pounds and now have gained it all back im trying to get back on track this week and staying on track. I've been going out walking alot but sometimes its hard because its so hot right now so I need to find an activity that doesn't cost much that I can do indoors. I love to swim so I might do that. But I don't think its clicked mentally for me yet that I have to change. Idk why....I feel weak like maybe I can't do this. Has anyone felt this way? It makes me sick to my stomach. You would think that knowing my weight is causing me to not get pregnant that I would just do what I need to do. But im am going to try so hard from here on out and try to get past the temptations. Im going to my 2nd time at the support group Thursday and I have an appointment so hopefully it will help me get back on track. Thanks again for the support! My husbands work has been very slow lately and they are talking about possible layoffs that are permanent. Im really scared because my insurance is through his work...if he loses his job there's no way I could get this surgery done its way to expensive. Im so upset...im so close to surgery....should be coming up in september is what were thinking. For all the people who are religious out there if I could please ask you to pray for me and mu husband that'd be awesome, we could use all the prayers we can get.
