  1. I have NEVER had a cavity or filling, get my 2 cleanings a year & get a rave review on my oral health. Well suddenly I'm having major issues. 2 cracked teeth within a month. I'm horrified...can't help but wonder if its from being malnourished...anyone else having problems? I'm only 8 months post op...but I'm nervous I'm going to lose teeth!!!! Frraking out!

    Holiday Eating

I was 248 pre surgery currently 176 so about 72#. When they ask I just say that I eat less & workout more. Which is not a lie! I'm at a stall currently...although I have found wine to be my friend! So I'm drinking some extra calories...and those darn girlscouts...I can eat 3 thin mints lol! Better then the whole pack I suppose!!!
  3. Just curious how everyone else feels about Thanksgiving dinner. This is my 1st real holiday gathering since surgery & I'm so used to over indulgence I'm not sure how dinner will go. Plus I'm eating @ my inlaws & none of them know about my sleeve! Do I load my plate & just pretend to pick? I'm just not comfortable with them knowing (Very judgmental). Any suggestions???

    Height, Weight, And Size Poll

5'2" starting weight 248 size 20, surgery 3/12/12, current weight 175 size 12. Very happy where I am now! I don't watch the scale anymore...have days where I don't eat much then I have days where I eat way more then I think I should be able to, still way less then before surgery.

    Vaginal Bleeding

Got mine right after surgery too!
  7. I buy bags of frozen precooked shrimp. Great snack or meal! Also PB2 all the Protein of PB w/out the fat And I love pizza so & that is something I just can't handle abymore so my solution is: 6" tortilla browned in a bit of olive oil, a splash of sauce, then some mozzerella & I chop up a few pepperoni & broil it. Its fantastic, still can't really eat the whole thing but its low carb & my kids enjoy it too. Gives me my pizza fix!!!
  8. I had nothing like this. All my meds & vitamins were in pill form 2 days post op. Have they given you bentyl for stomach spasms??? That makes a HUGE difference. My doc kept me on it 2 months post op, reglan as well. I've never thrown up. Only dry heaved twice in hospital & that was during leak test. Hope you feel better quickly!!!

    Any Buffalo Ny Sleevers?

I always try to watch what I eat & if I have a sweet its by far less then I ever had before. My entire lifestyle has changed. No couch potato here! I have to young kids so I spent the summer very active & I try to go to thr gym if not the gym then at least a walk or some extra scrubbing to my house to stay active. I try not to weigh myself a lot, maybe once every 1-2 weeks. I pay attention to my clothing fit more than #. I've also been more thrifty with shopping & not buying new clothes since I change so frequently! Before surgery I had bought my first pair of size 20's an all time low...well I just bought a thrifty pair of 12's and grinned ear to ear! Not sure about the rest of you but I've been selling all my old clothes on ebay & using that money to replace my wardrobe. Its saved me tons! I have a very supportive husband who has benefited by our healthier eating as well! I love when people see me & say WOW you look great! I just say thanks!

    Any Buffalo Ny Sleevers?

I'm also a buffalo sleever, had Dr Cavaretta thru Synergy back in March! Doing great down about 70lbs have another 30 to go before I feel truly accomplished. Started around 235 & felt gastric bypass was to extreme. I had laproscopic surgery so my recovery was super quick. I've had no problems through this entire journey & it scares me that I can eat everything...not a lot of food, just that I can eat anything & have no side effects. I used to use my fitness pal & really need to get back on track with it. As far as protein shakes I'm bad and have slacked with those as well...I need to start tracking like crazy again to avoid getting those bad habits back.

Nauseousness? When Will It Go Away?

Are you on Bentyl? Reglan? These prevent spastic activity in stomach, Reglan promotes the movement along GI tract. How about liquid/pill pain med? Lortab? Prilosec is also a must in the beginning. Everyone handles surgery different so don't get frustrated! Please ask your doc if your not on any of these meds...

    Nsaids Injectable

NSAIDS in general cause GI upset, can lead to ulcers, & even GI bleeds, I believe its just preventive action advising patients to not take them.

How Many Nights Did U Stay At Hospital?

Don't rule out 1 night, I ended up staying 2 but ONLY because I was drugged up on morphine. Too strong & didn't handle it well. Went home early on day 2 once I was on simpler meds! I was drinking liquid 2hrs after surgery no nausea except for when I got morphine. Felt "normal" the minute it stopped.

    Who Have You Told?!

I've told some co-workers & my family, have very judgmental inlaw family THEY have not been told although I did tell my sis in law who probably blabbed to everyone! I'm 5 months out and have gradually shed almost 60# so I just get the "wow your looking really good" comments I secretly smile & say thanks & pretend I haven't really noticed...
  16. Wow bdiddy you sound like a total ******... Sisters is fantastic by the way, I went there & had a fabulous surgeon ...I've known many that have done Buff General...most have similar stories. I didn't get that this was a public bashing, just a venting & telling her story. BTW most surgeons are total dicks with no bedside manner so never take it personally!

    Bcbs Of Wny

I am also from WNY not sure what doc you are using but I also have BCBS & went thru synergy bariatrics. I only had to write my previous weight loss attempts & get letter of medical necessity from my primary, then I did psych eval & some classes @ the doc's office. Maybe depends on your plan with BCBS good luck!

I'm Sleeved! Just Home From Hospital.

I think if you gp in expecting that complications & pain will occur & realize its a possibility you handle it much better, I had never had surgery before, but have kids & I was super frightened about pain & complications...my only complaint was the morphine PCA pump, too much drug for me, it made me sick & dizzy...the minute they switched my meds I was a happy camper. I wasn't pain free but I was never in any excruciating pain. I had no nausea, vomiting and was able to drink clears within an hour of returning to my room. Each experience is different, I only dry heaved when they did the leak test...the taste of the gastrographin & the morphine was a bad combo! For everyone getting ready for surgery just mentally prepare for the change, its frustrating at 1st pacing yourself & learning how to eat meals with your new tiny tummy! I am 4 months out, down from 248 to 195 & can eat anything I ate before just in small quanties...no vomiting or dumping. I do warn you that you can feel sick/bloated. Very tight & uncomfortable if you make the wrong choices! Bread products which were my crutch are virtually gone from my diet! I don't even want them, you will learn they just take up too much room. I can eat 1/2 slice of toast with breakfast but only do that on a rare occasion! Never thought I could eat an egg for breakfast without butter slathered toast! Huge lifestyle change...I haven't told a lot of people about my surgery, I know too many that "judge" so I'm happy with my gradual loss of weight...its not as noticeable to people who see me every day!

    Hair Loss!

Same here, like huge clumps! I don't notice any "bald spots" but I've always had thick hair. I'm chalking it up to malnutrition @ this point. I try to get in all I can & thought I was doing well...vitamins & protein so if anyone has any tips other than a good wig!

    Cant Stop Crying Any Help?

I was sleeved 3/12 and am down from 248 to 195, the key is getting in your protein! I've noticed my weight loss slowing down a bit, I don't tend to exercise as much as I should but I'm in a very fast passed work setting & on my feet 12hrs a day. I use my fitness pal & log all my food, weight, measurements as well. Are you losing inches???? My doc assures me there will be inches at times instead of pounds. I strongly suggest tracking everything you ingest, and keep the protein up & carbs down!
