So I am only 21 and still fall under my Dad's insurance plan. He just lost his job and said the insurance is only good for three months from now. There is no way I would be able to get the surgery in 3 months and it all be covered. I feel hopeless right now! Anyone self pay in California and what did it run you? Any suggestion

MamaMelly, Thank you! I know when I was there I couldnt believe it! I felt so discouraged after that then I went to the seminar and the ladies told me you need to change doctors. My family history is prone to diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesteral. I had a blood test done but I dont believe i have any of these. I do feel pressure on my chest when i sleep and have no energy anymore. So i will bring that up. I am going to start documenting today of everything so i am prepared.

Does it matter, do you think, that there was a gap of time where I didnt really go to the Doctor during highschool but I have always had a high BMI in the "obesity" category. i just want everything to work out you know. Just like everyone else lol

UTGal99, he did not. He began to say and then my mom said she had the Gastric Bypass done a long time ago becuase of our Family health. He said well I would need a diary of everything you eat the time weight and amount and I need blood work but I strongly believe this can be changed with good eating and working out. I brought in all the diets and workout plans I had been on since elementary school and he really had nothing to say. So I found a new doctor which I see in a month. I am preparing myself for a long battle.

So I am new to the whole weight loss surgery. I first wanted the lap band but then attended a seminar and believe the Sleeve is so much better for me. Met with my normal doctor to discuss the surgery and right away he said he does not believe in it. I then had to search for a doctor and call and make sure that there had been referrals from him before. I found one and have my first appointment on Sept 4th to get referred to the center that will be helping me. My insurance requires an in network doctor to refer me for it to be covered. I think that is going to be my biggest challenge...insurance. I am also currently at a BMI of 39 and I am not sure if i have any co-morbidies. Sort of frustrating becuase i feel like I am always the one who falls right between the lines and I have fear i wont be approved. I am 21 and a single mom and started my journey back in June. I would love all the support I can get in this process and any tips along the way. I am ready to defeat this weight that has been with me since elementary school.

For those of you in California and who were self-pay, how much did you have to pay for your surgery and after surgery fills? I dont think my insurance or doctor is going to help me out.

I am trying to get a referral from my normal doctor to go see a surgeon for wls. Which my normal doctor does not like wls. I called the office and they said that from past experiences my medical group usually has patients do an 18 month program before they can be referred. I honestly do not want to wait 18 months for this. I am feeling discouraged with the whole procedure and feel like it will never get started. Any help. I'm from California Los Angeles

I am new to this journey as well. I just went and saw my doctor this week and he of course was against it. He took blood work and is having me do a 2 week food journal so he can see exactly what I am eating. My frist attempt at the Lap Band... definately preparing myself for a lot more.

Hello, I am pretty new to the whole lap band topic. I am going to my doctor tonight to ask about getting banded. I am really nervous and scared that he will say no. Any advice on how to talk to him or bring the topic up. I am going in because I have been having migraines. I got these back when I was in highschool and it was from being overwieight. I am done with the yo yo diet and feeling depressed over my weight. I am ready for a new start and a new me ! Tips and advice would be appreciated.

Hello, Does anyone have Pacificare in California? I am trying to get the procedure approved through them and want to know if anyone has used them and gotten it approved. What was recommended and what steps were taken? Thanks !!!!

Hello, I am interested in getting the Lap Band procedure and would like some input on where to get started. I am 21 years old, 5 foot 7 and wiegh 245. I have a BMI of 36.9. I have not yet gone to my doctor to talk to her about this but I am making an appointment soon. Any suggestions or tips for me as I embrak on this new journey? My mom had the Gastric Bypass surgery a couple years ago. I guess you can say I have her every gene. I am up for some rough health problems and want to stop going in that direction. I have tried everything from wieght watchers to nutrisystem to herba life and still cannot loose the weight. Adivce about my situation would be appreciated.
