  1. Hi All Surgery was Thursday....there's no other way to say it...it was misery. For almost 24 hours I was in horrible pain and couldn't get ANYTHING down, not even the littlest sip of water....I was beyond nauseous... the gas-x strips and mouthspray would also make me throw up....not that there anything to throw up....but mouth would water and I'd dry heave. I reacted this way to the littlest thing touching my lips or in my mouth. I kept telling my nurse how miserable I was along with horrible pain in my stomach....She would say, it could be the pain medication that's making you nauseous...ok, so I stopped pushing my pain meds. She comes in later and says how's your pain? I said horrible and she says " well that's because you aren't using your pain medication!". Well duh! I made her call my doc at 1am. He came in early this morning and said, let's change the meds. It was a miracle! Within 20 mins I was able to sip water, Ice chips and broth and have been feeling good ever since. They had me stay 1 more night. Its amazing how the wring pain killer (for me) can make you So Miserable. I'm a different person today and so happy to be feeling good.
  2. THANK YOU EVERYBODY!!!!! I'll post as soon as I'm able afterwards! I've never eaten so many sugar-free popsicles in my life!....but they are a life saver on this liquid only day!
  3. IM super excited...little nervous...all liquid day has been a little tough, but feeling pretty good! I go in at 7am. See you all on the losing side soon!!!!!
  4. I didn't have to jump through any insurance hoops. My BMI was very high at 50 when I met with doctors and insurance approved same day. The doctors I went to is a 1 stop shop. I went in for the consult and in same day did all tests, psych, insurance approval and scheduled my surgery date...which is now tomorrow! (it was scheduled 7 weeks ago) My dr. put me on 3 week pre-op because I have so much to lose. I have not had to supply my insurance.(Blue Cross PPO) with anything. I had to go back to dr. For more blood work, endoscopy procedure and then pre-op dr. Appointment. I think my experience has been easier than most in dealing with insurance...I've been very lucky. Best of luck in your process!
  5. 16W is for Women's....which means it's larger for a "woman" than a regular size 16. If you shop at Lane Bryant (or similar store) which I'm sure most of us ladies do or have shopped there....all of their clothes are W's. I remember when I started putting on the weight....I could still fit into a size 16 Lane Bryant but I could not fit into any "regular" store 16's...and so it began 10 years ago!!! I am so excited to read these posts and KNOW that I can get back to the old me. I can't wait for people not to recognize me! ...for being skinny and not fat....I went through that too...that is horrible. CowgirlJane - you inspire me!!!!!
  6. Best of luck....wishes for speedy recovery and all good things post-sleeve! . I'm this week (Thursday)! Please post updates and keep us all posted!
  7. Thanks ShapeShifter!!!...it's coming so quick!!!!! Good luck to you!!!!
  8. thank you, thank you! And yes, I could not agree more, it's that inner conversation for sure...and yesterday I didn't fight what I should have thanks for the well wishes - I'm VERY excited...and 100% back on track!
  9. I've been on the pre-op diet for 2 weeks, 1 more week to go....surgery in 7 days! I was so glad to find this post! I've been doing pretty good, down 12 pounds so far, but yesterday - it all went out the window!!!! It was my son's birthday and I had chips, soda, 2 bites of b-day cake, 1 piece of pizza (that was all in the middle of the day), then 1/2 bag of movie popcorn and another sode at the movies! Now, I will say that the portions of only having a few bites and 1 piece of pizza vs. what I would have normally had is a HUGE difference.....BUT I still ate all of the really bad food. I'm hoping with 7 days left it won't effect me....fingers crossed! Yesterday I felt like I just wanted to enjoy the day...but I'll tell you my stomach was not ready for all that bad food...I paid for it last night! It was yesterday and I'm trying to move on and not beat myself up so much.....anybody not only cheat a little but go off the pre-op that you had problems with surgery? or Dr. said "I know you didn't follow the pre-op diet!"
  10. You can look up (Google) pre-op diet for gastric sleeve surgery....it's all about shrinking your "fatty" liver....what I've read is that overweight people have fatty livers and because the dr. has to go under the liver that it helps the surgery go easier if you lose some weight prior....the liquid diet 4 days before is probably to empty your stomach as well. If you Google it will also mention the liquids....you want sugar-free everything. Sugar turns to fat when it's not used (just like simple carbs) so they want to lose weight, no gain it hope that helps!!!

  12. Hi Everyone, Has anyonw read The Weight Loss Surgery Coping Companion - A Practical Guide for Coping with Post-Surgery Emotions? Feedback? I am worried about how to "cope" with the emotions and feelings I may have after surgery when I do this in 10 days! Any input would be great. Thank you!
  13. I had my OBGYN annual this last week and I am always mortified!....I can't wait to be thin and stop dreading that exam! Oh and another one, I can't wait to be attractive again to men! I met the most handsome man today (with an Australian accent - knees wobbling)...and all I can think is that I hope I run across you again when I'm thin!!!! Ha-ha! Can't wait to start dating again, going out, dancing, wearing those sexy high heels, FEELING sexy again... list goes on and on!
  14. Love love love it! Thanks for sharing and inspiring me! I'm 13 days away and every once in awhile I get the thought...is this really going to work? And then all I have to do is get on here and read your post! . Thank you!
  15. Since this topic came up again, I think there's a little confusion. In obese people there is an elevated level of ghrelin which increases incidences of memory loss. Memory loss is because too much ghrelin, not too little. You should see better memory, not worse after surgery...which is what most have said they have experienced .
  16. You are gorgeous!!! Congrats on baby!!! Thanks for posting...so encouraging!
  17. I'm August 2nd too....it feels like all of a sudden, it's coming real quick!...probably because I'm on the pre-op. I feel the exact same way...am I prepared? Have I done enough?..do I really know what to expect when I get home? About a mo th ago I did a huge purge of my entire home, clothes, etc. I'd been holding on so long to the smaller sizes (9-16)..haven't been a 16 for 7 years so those real small sizes are old! Ha-ha! I felt it was really purging to even get rid of the old small clothes...they were also a reminder of my past failures. I felt like this time, this is it! And I'm buying all new clothes and Celebrate each smaller size (or raid my sister's closet) I did keep 2 super small tops...when I fit into those again It will be a good day! Good luck and keep me posted how things are going...message or friend me...I'd like to stay in touch!
  18. Ok, so my first post on the day I started, I said it wasn't that bad....about 30 minutes after that post I had a MASSIVE headache that lasted almost 2 days....I'm sure my body was in SHOCK. I did not prepare before starting, I hit it cold turkey....holy hell, not a good idea. But now I'm in day 4 and it's the first really good day that I haven't cheated (I've only cheated with real food protein) and gotten through just on shakes and bars and carrots, which I'm allowed. I'm feeling good. Your body just needs time to adjust to the huge change! Hope everyone else is getting through!
  19. Duh, honey = sugar & carbs....guess I don't be able to use the honey....I'll have to see how I can get the apple cider vinegar in...thanks for the ideas!
  20. I'm in south OC....scheduled for August 2nd....what part of SoCal are you in? I'd LOVE to find someone who is local in Orange County.
  21. So about a month ago I was at dinner with my sister and I noticed her hands didn't look dry (she's always had super dry skin) and her hair looked fuller/thicker...so I reached over and grabbed her hair and said what the heck have you done to your hair?!? She said "oh I've been drinking honey and vinegar..didn't I tell you?". Ummmm - NO! So for the last 3 weeks I've been drinking it....sure enough thicker hair and softer skin!!! No joke. So here's the receipe 1 Tablespoon Trader Joes Organic Raw honey and 1 Tablespoon Trader joes Organic UNFILTERED Apple Cider Vinegar...add to a 6-8oz of hot/warm water, stir in and enjoy. I tried other brands but I'm telling you Trader joes is the best and it has to be UNFILTERED vinegar. The vinegar alkalizes in the body which is where the health benefits come in. I really wanted to share this with everyone and also ask...do you think I can continue to drink immediately after sleeved?...will the vinegar be too strong? I'm hoping this might help with hair loss/thinning???
  22. Yes definitely a personal choice ...I have told everyone! I want to share my experience and also the support from all family and friends, even co-workers. With my job I had to tell my boss because even my time off and vacations are working vacations. I actually need real time off. I'm excited to share my experience with everyone.
  23. Yes! and you'll do great!
