So Who Are Our First Sleevers ?
I was supposed to be Oct 31 but Sandy pushed it back to 11/1. I stayed one night in the hospital and left the next evening. It's been okay. The pain isn't bad. Liquids were easy. My surgeon has me on puréed foods already which is a little tougher. The hospital meal was a meat, vegi and potato. I really just ate the meat and liquids and skipped the rest. That fits in with what my NUT told me and honestly it's all I can do.

The Ridiculous, Rude Comments Of Others....
How would she even know the term 'stalling'? Has she had WLS?

This Is It!
Thanks all. Sitting in my hospital bed enjoying light, electricity and heat for the first time since Monday. Great to be sleeved

This Is It!
Rescheduled hurricane surgery is happening in an hour. See you on the losers bench.

Hit My Required Wt. For Surgery But...
I've been a complete pest throughout this whole process. I'm the customer. I'm paying them and have a right to get their butts moving. As long as you are nice about it no one minds you being a little pushy. They know this is a big deal and will help you out.

Mother Nature Fighting Against Sugery
Looks like the hurricane beat me in the end. My surgery is officially cancelled

Mother Nature Fighting Against Sugery
Sorry to hear that Yamz28. I spoke my surgeons office at 8 am and was told that it's up to the hospital. They might not even decide until tomorrow even though the surgery is supposed to be at 9 am. My gut is telling me that it won't happen but we'll just have to wait and see

Sandy !
I'm in CT and my surgery is supposed to be Tuesday at 9 am. Really hoping for the best but the news is dreadful. The thought of trying to recover with no electricity is also making me sick with worry. Cold and dark without working toilets is not how I envisioned this.

Mother Nature Fighting Against Sugery
Looking real dicey. Mandatory evacuation south of the hospital. Not so sure I want to recover in a house without power for a week. This is going to be miserable no matter what.

Scared Straight! New Dad/husband, Thinking About Vgs- Please Help!
The risks of having a serious complication from staying 370 pounds are a lot greater than the risks of surgery.

Pre Op Diet Tips
I have 4 days left on mine and I won't lie to you, it's not a fun experience. My advice is to stay busy and just take it as the final challenge before the surgery. It's late in the 4th quarter and you need to dig deep and find that little extra to get through no matter how much it hurts and how bad you feel. It will all be worth it in the end.

Mother Nature Fighting Against Sugery
The hospital doesn't worry me. Babies are born every day no matter the weather. That part will be fine. What worries me is being without power for a week when I go home. Last year we lost power for 9 days from a hurricane and then a week during Halloween from a freak snow storm. The power utilities in CT are terrible. Recovering from surgery in a cold, dark house is not going to be fun. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Need Help...gaining Weight! Ugh!
Why not go back to your nutritionist? You know you need help. You don't know how to start. The good news is there is someone who probably still has records on you and who is an expert. That's a better way to get back in control than trying to do it on your own.

Not Losing Weight On Pre-Op Diet?
I wouldn't worry about it. Stress is another factor in losing weight. It could be that all this stress is causing your body to produce more cortisol which is a natural steroid. Doing all those things plus worrying about the surgery plus feeling crappy from the diet is a lot of pressure. This doesn't mean anything about how you'll do once you get sleeved. You're committed and are going to do great. I've always done that exercise so I didn't add it for this phase. I just didn't discontinue it. I'm a diabetic so exercise is critical for me to maintain a healthy level of blood sugar. I also think that it's helping me lose weight because it's combined with the significantly reduced calorie diet. I still feel lousy and hungry though just everyone else.

Wow
Sounds great. I'll be right there will you next week. Hope it goes as smooth as yours has

Not Losing Weight On Pre-Op Diet?
I've lost around 8 pounds pre-op. Mine is different than yours. It was 4 Optifast shakes and 4 oz of protein for week 1 and 5 Optifast shakes week 2. 5 Optifast shakes is 800 calories. I also run 3+ miles a day and do 30 minutes of yoga. Have you been exercising while on the pre-op diet?

Ok...today I Jumped Off The Cliff!
There's plenty to fear from being morbidly obese. Heart attack, stroke, diabetes, sleep apnea, joint replacement etc.... I know that surgery is scary but it's a lot less scary than all those things that are at a much greater risk for being this heavy.

Barium Test- How Did Your Stomach Feel
It tasted like a sweet chalk milkshake. Not good but not that big a deal. Upper GI was one of the easier tests.

Lower Bmi In Nj
Every insurance company that I've heard of has a cutoff at 40 BMI or 35 with 2 comorbidities from a list they put together. It could be that the surgeons see 30 as a liability risk and won't do it even if it's self paid. Unfortunately they come up with these arbitrary numbers based on a chart and your stuck with it. Good luck

Mother Nature Fighting Against Sugery
I'm due to be sleeved October 30th and I see the headline that a new perfect storm is going to hit the East Coast at the same time. I beat the doctors and their tests, I beat the insurance company and now I have to beat Mother Nature herself to get this done. No problem, just another obstacle to climb right over

2 Week Pre-Op Diet - I Call Bullsh**t
I'd kill for some lettuce at this point. 5 Optifast shakes a day. Yuck!

Cautiously (Very Cautiously) Optimistic!
It's ridiculous that you have to gain weight so an insurance company will decide to authorize a procedure to help you lose weight.

Telling Your Boss Your Having Surgery..
I have heart issue and diabetes issues and have had them for years. I told them I am getting laparoscopic heart surgery to fix a problem brought on by my diabetes. It's not far off from the truth. I'm a 245 pound man who I'm told will shrink down to 180 - 190. Honestly wearing work clothes every day I doubt too many of my coworkers are going to even notice the weight loss. If they do I'll tell them I'm on a special diet related to my diabetes. It really depends on your office and what part of the country you live in. I'm in the NY area and there is no such thing as understanding here. My office is too small to qualify for FMLA and even if it did they can find a way around it if they wanted. I saw my wife get fired from a law firm as soon as they found out she was pregnant. Suddenly she was getting reviewed every week and there were constant issues with her work and they let her go for 'performance' reasons. No offense to any lawyers here but too many in that profession feel they are above the law and know all the tricks to get around it. I'm not trying to scare you. Most here seem to have understanding employers. I would just be absolutely sure of the situation before you said anything.

Telling Your Boss Your Having Surgery..
Only you know the answer to your question. I know in my office only bad things would come if they knew I was taking time off for a voluntary surgery. I want to keep my job so there is no way that's going to happen.
