I'm so excited to be able to offer advice. The sleeve has been a lifesaver for me. I can't believe it's been a year and I'm at goal and seeing many others join the losers' bench!

I was sleeved on 05/16 and don't get to eat soft foods until next week. Wonder why all Drs don't use the same guidelines.

Yes, I was like this. Are you still on Clear liquids? My doc gave me zofran for nauseous. He said it can last for a month. I'm a little better since I started on pureed and full liquids.
    Hang in there.

    Hi guys!
I went under the knife on May 7th at a surgery weight of 242. My one month anniversary was yesterday and I weighed in at 219 for a 23 pound loss. I guess I'm "normal."
For all of you waiting for their first scrambled egg, I felt the same way and let me tell you it didn't disappoint. Every day since then has been better than the last.

I have made both the taco and lasagna cupcakes. I liked the lasagna ones a little more (i may be biased living in tucson) but they were both awesome!
Congrats to all the May Sleevers!

I am 8 months out. At this point I am capable of eating just about anything except bread... bread hits me like a rock with anything more than a tiny bite. But I don't mind since I really was never a huge bread eater (pasta was my kryptonite...)
    My daily foods include
    -chicken
    -pork
-ground meat (hamburger or turkey or sausage)
    -eggs
-plain greek yogurt (with flavored syrups or splenda to sweeten, normally add Protein as well)
    -cheese!
    -tuna
    -shrimp
    -lunch meat
    -protein shakes
I cook these in a variety of ways, but grilling (on my counter top grill) is my favorite. It is quick and since I have lots of experience with it I have no trouble timing it so that the meat comes out tender every time. With the ground meat I either eat it out of a bowl with cheese on top or I make meatballs of some sort.
As you can tell... I am definitely NOT a vegetarian! LOL I also am not all that creative with it. But I like simple food the best so I'm not missing anything!

I was actually at a stall, then started soft foods & the weight started coming off! Go figure! So doesn't necessarily mean you will put on weight!

Refusing to eat is not conducive to living. You don't wanna get dead!! K?? Your loss may take a temporary hit, but that is your body readjusting. Don't worry about it. Eat the food. Drink the water. Do the exercise and you will lose the weight. Sleevie makes it easier to do that. Do not refuse to eat. You need protein and calories and such to allow your heart to beat!! Be good girl.

Welcome and we all wish you the best in your new adventure.
While Sammy's terse negative comment has value please remember that for an OVERWHELMING majority of sleevers the surgery is VERY successful. Keeping that in mind do NOT approach it without concern, bad things CAN and DO occur, then again balance those possibilities with the risk of remaining morbidly obese for the rest of your life.
Study it out, ask questions and seek out all the information THEN make up YOUR decision to do it or not. It worked for me.

When you work out is it just cardio, or do you do strength training as well? weights will help you build muscle which will make you lose fat faster but muscle also weighs more - my advice is when you're in a stall - stop weighing for a week or so and instead take measurements you may still be losing inches just not 'weight'.. and weight can also be water being held, etc... Lots of women, my wife included hate doing weights, and are afraid they're gonna become a bodybuilder and have the 'ugly' muscles -but that doesn't happen unless you are really trying to become a bodybuilder lol.

I had my surgery on the 9th of May, and on the 23rd, I started eating soft foods. I had avacado, and even had a TINY slice of pizza with thin, crackery crust. The next night I had (gasp) liver and mashed potatoes with gravy. I just ate very carefully, and picked out all of the fibrous bits, chewing to an almost liquid pulp. This made me feel SOO much better, physically, as well as emotionally. I had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the instructions were a little sketchy. I was worried about everything I did until I found a great set of post-op instructions online with EXPLANATIONS about what to do and WHY. Things like the 'no drinking' rule. I was told to NEVER drink with my meals, or for 30 minutes before or after. I read in a few places that this was because I would stretch my stomach out and render my surgery pointless. Harsh. The PDF I downloaded explained that this was not the reason, but the purpose for not drinking before was so your meal would comfortably fit, and not drinking after was to hold the 'full' feeling as long as possible. Makes sense, now. This made my life so much easier, as I stopped feeling guilty about everything I put in my mouth. And if I REALLY need to wash my mouth out with a little water to clear lingering taste, I can take a sip and swallow without blowing a gasket. I also learned the importance of protein and fluids, and that (THANK HEAVEN) i don't necessarily have to combine the two. I purchased a protein powder that I sprinkle on my food, and can actually enjoy the taste of the 2 liters!! of fluid a day I need to drink. I LOVE my 1liter smartwater bottle, filled 2x/day with sugar free hawaiian punch! I take 3 Flintstones gummies and 2 Viactive chocolate chews for dessert and skip the nasty liquid vitamins, protein drinks/shakes... I am a wild child and eat a scrambled egg for breakfast with 1/2 slice of 2% American cheese melted wickedly on it. For lunch, I even ate garlic mashed potatoes with protein powder sprinkled on them! When my family had a cookout this weekend, I grilled a portobello mushroom beside their hamburgers and dipped it in (gasp) cheese dip with a few slices of avacado! I have a few basic rules I follow.
    1. keep it low/no fat.
    2. no more than 1/2 cup
    3. drink the 64 oz. of fluid
    4. 60 grams protein powder
    5. keep meats tender, and don't eat the kind that swell as you chew. This will continue once you swallow, and that ain't good.
    6. move your butt
    7. avoid skins, seeds, and fibrous bits... spice is ok in moderation, just no pepper seeds!
    8. Don't do it if it hurts! (food) I don't eat lettuce or uncooked veggies, either. But a little cooked spinach is great.
    9. ONLY EAT IT IF IT TASTES GOOD!
This pirate attitude toward the rules has helped me achieve a 30lb loss in less than a month, the ability to be happy with my decision and NOT feel deprived when eating with family and friends, the descent from a size 20 to a 14/16 in less than a month, and a perma-grin plastered to my face!
BOTTOM LINE. Don't sweat the small stuff. And don't be miserable. Lose the guilt and find a way to enjoy living your new life.
