  1. I am so sorry this happen to you. My husband needs to have this surgery also because he is is Type 2 and it is uncontrolled. I asked him not to tell and he is so good at keeping secrets. That used to bother me that he would not tell me stuff but now that it is me that doesnt want it told, I love him so much for it. He is waiting to see how I do to decide if he will do it. I think he is a little scared about how it will change me. You know the whole you skinny and I not thing. He just needs to coming along with me. Problem solved. Good luck MGM! You are going to do great. Surround yourself with support and stay positive.
  2. I have not been sleeved yet but I have had several laproscopic surgeries so from personal experience with surgeries and everything I have read that getting sleeved, you might want to wait until after the party. That is cutting it really close. You probably want to be able to be an important part of the party and you may not feel up to it that soon. Congratulations on getting approved! You are going to do great!
  3. If I am happy, you are there, If I am scared, you are there. If I failed, you are there. If I am feeling alone, yep, you are there. I feel like I have gained hundreds of new friends who all know exactly what I am going through and it is PRICELESS! I just want to tell you all that I am thinking of you this glorious Texas Sunday morning and I want you to know how much I appreciate you!
  4. I don't have a date yet, but I am really close. I have one more nutrition visit, only because my insurance changed the rules. Regardless, I find that I have such a spring in my step to know that I am getting help. The life line is there, I have a death grip on it and I am hanging out waiting to be pulled in. Reading as much as I can, gaining new friends and just excited as I can be. I feel like I did as a kid, waiting for camp to roll around. My bag was packed to weeks in advance and I was ready to go! I am ready to go and this process is so exciting that I can't wait until I have that spring in my step -- literally!
  5. You could either let your surgeon do it, by asking them to send a report, OR the next time you go to your doc and if they ask if you have had any surgeries, like they are supposed to, then tell them. If they don't ask but want to know how you lost the weight, tell them portion control, because after all, that is ultimately what it is, a tool to give you portion control.
  6. You are so right!!! I am purposely only telling those who either need to know, like my boss and those who will be supportive. I am getting close to approval so I am starting to tell people who would be really hurt to think that I didn't care enough about them to tell them something so important, like my oldest brother. He asked me if I was scared. Of course, I am scared but I am more scared of what will happen if I don't do something. I have been at least 100 pounds overweight for 30 years! 30 years!! I have lost as much as 130 pounds only to gain it right back and then some so now I am 200 pounds overweight! I got to the point that I said I was never dieting again. I was only hurting myself. I am very excited and feel surrounded with loving and supportive people... except my PCP but that is on another post. Do what is best for you and be confident that this will change your life for the good, forever!
  7. Hellonurse, the other part of me says my doc doesn't deserve to see my success. She would probably take credit for it. I have until November until I am suppose to return, so I have time to decide... unless I get sick. The good news is that I work in a hospital so if I do get sick I am surrounded by an army of (very supportive) docs that I can turn to.
  8. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I am so glad I posted this, you all helped me so much. You guys are great!
  9. I asked my primary care doc about WLS surgery earlier this year and she told me not to do it. When I asked why she said that none of her patience have been successful with WLS and they have all gained their weight back. I talked to my GYN about it a month or so later and he is 100% for it. (I love him!) He has known me for 25 years and his opinion is that I will be very successful. (Did I mention how much I love him?) So fast forward to this past Monday when I saw my primary care doctor for recheck to continue my meds that I take only because I am MORBIDLY OBESE! She was so excited to see that I have lost almost 20 pounds. She went on to say that I will NEVER lose the 200 pounds I need to lose and that she will be glad if I can just get under 300!!! What an idiot! I found myself wanting to run out of there screaming but you know what? I can't wait to go back to her in 6 months - a year - 2 years -- just to torture her with how well I will be doing. No, I proably won't go to her for much longer but I do want her to educate her that surgery is an option that can save her patients lives. OK, I feel cleansed, thanks for letting me vent.
  10. Thank you for posting about this ladies. I was told I will need to take Heprin shots pre-op and the closer I get, the more this scares me. I am sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that my mom passed away in 2010 from a pulmonary embolism. I know I am doing the right thing but every day brings new fear, concern or excitement.
  11. I will be having my surgery at the hospital where I work in Dallas. I am blessed to have very good insurance. Our hospital has been awarded the Bariatric Center of Excellence award and the surgery suites are gorgeous so I very excited.
  12. It's made with diet Sprite. My friend and I are wondering if we could wait till the soda goes flat then drink it. I personally am not willing to take the chance. I do have to admit though it does sound tempting.
  13. Short people unite! I am barely 5' tall and can relate to what you are feeling. I hope to be sleeved early July so I don't have a success story.... yet, I was just excited to see fellow shorties. Congrats on the 40 pounds!
  14. August 23rd is my birthday! What a great day for a new life. I don't have a date yet but I am hoping for around the 4th of July. MGM, I'll be thinking about you. Where are you having your surgery?
  15. I got the news today that I won't have surgery until July. My insurance requires a full 90 days with the nutritionist so instead of today being my last visit, I have one more at the end of June. I am a tad bummed but then again in the grand scheme of things it is only a couple of more weeks, so it's cool. Everything happens for a reason.
  16. I live in Fort Worth, but work in Dallas at Doctors Hospital. I don't have a date yet but I am thinking it will be mid to late June. Yeah us!! My surgeon is/will be Todd McCarty. Nice to meet you all.
  17. I look at it this way. If I lose this weight I increase my chances of being around to enjoy my forgetfulness and all the other things that come with old age. I will take it and be glad!
  18. Thank you all for your wonderful comments. This site has been so encouraging and informative. Bionic - - thank you for your comment about my writing. I love to write but I need a topic to be motivated so I have a feeling I am going to be writing a lot in the near future. It will be therapeutic and a creative outlet. Blessings to you all.
  19. I feel like I have been holding my breath for the last month. I consulted my surgeon in March and had my first nutrition and psych visit a week later. This week was my second visit with this dynamic duo and I suddenly realized I had been holding my breath for the last month. The counselor gave me a seemingly insurmountable amount of papers to complete. It kind of reminded me of my first house purchase. As I began to delve into it, I was little by little feeling like someone was peeling away the layers of my sacred onion. We all have one you know. The layers that we hold so dear that if someone were to peel them away we would suddenly feel exposed and naked, and trust me, this body naked ain't pretty. I held onto the packet for a week to think about my answers, took a deep breath and turned them in. The nutritionist gave me a 1000 calorie diet to follow. HA HA HA HA HA HA! I was laughing hysterically on the inside, but gave him a sweet smile and a nod on the outside and told him I would see him next month. He forgot to weigh me, so I really felt like I had gotten away with something. Well, fast forward one month and it was already time for my second visit with the dynamic duo. The nutritionist was very forgiving and encouraging. We talked about ways take in fewer calories and Vitamins to start. OK that wasn't so bad. Oh and he weighed me. He called my surgeons office for a starting weight and I was up 1 pound from last month, which he was very encouraged about. HA HA HA HA! My word, he is such a comedian, he should quit his day job. He sent me back out to the waiting room to continue holding my breath until it was my turn to meet with the counselor. I honestly felt like I was going to pass out. I sat there feeling all exposed and naked. I was convinced that the people in the front office knew my every weakness. Soon my turn was up. The sweet little counselor called my name and after we got our greetings and niceties out of the way, she started leafing through my paperwork. After a short discussion, I sudden found myself breathing again but I wasn't sure why. Say what? I was afraid to ask her to repeat what she had just said, but as she was handing me a piece of paper to sign, she said, "I think you will do very well!" I was doing a happy dance on the inside and taking a deep breath on the outside. I felt like I had just made the Dean's List!! I am 51 years old and have been overweight since I was 9. I am just under 5 feet tall, which hasn't changed much since I was 12 but my weight certainly has. Of course I have had some temporary successes at losing weight but it has literally been an up hill battle most of my life. I first recognized that I was overweight at 9 years old, when my favorite dress no longer fit around the waist. At 12 I weighed 122, by the time I was a senior in high school I weighed 175. I hit 200 at 20 and 260 when I married at 27. Now, 25 years later I am at 335! But I know that the approval from the counselor is the beginning to a new life where I will be able to walk better, be active and BREATH!!!
  20. I am pre-surgery but I got my first taste of this yesterday looking for a chewable vitamin with iron. I told the vulture what I was looking for and nothing more. They didn't have what I needed, so I left. My husband was with me and as we got out the door he looked at me with frustration and asked if I thought it might have helped to tell him why I needed it. A - Irrelevant! B - None of the vultures flippin' business!!
