  1. I have just finally decided it's my new life. MOM, laxitives, stool softners - whatever. Usually a couple of times a week. I drink water all day, every day but do I always get the min of 64 OZ's? maybe not. I have my second fill tomorrow and I'll ask the doc for better suggestions, but I do know it's fairly common. I'm six weeks out from surgery now.
  2. Congrats!!! Emotions will run high. You're excited, scared, nervous, curious, etc....
  3. There are so many forums here and everyone responds to different ones. So if you're in for meeting on 6/5/12 @ 7pm, On the Border in Irving, please text or email me (817.884.1564 or kaymikes@ebby.com) and I will get a count and make arrangements with the restaurant. Bring your spouse if you would like. Mine certainly has stories about living with a band patient, I'm sure.
  4. Five weeks out now. Down 18 since surgery. Feel great. Had one fill. At this point my restriction is in my will power, which is pretty none existent or I would have been a size 8 all my life. So far, I find that I lose rapidly for a week, then plateau for two weeks. Doc says dont count calories, count Protein. Says the body has to work hard to burn protein so it burns more calories to digest steak than sugar or fat.
  5. Ok DF/W banders, wanna be banders, and curious ... lets set up an evening, after work, where we can gather. Irving or Arlington might be good just because there are those of us from Rockwall and Benbrook, Allen and Alvarado .... Lets hear some suggestions. We are all at different stages so we can't all have the same things. My suggestion is Mexican food or maybe a steak house. Because Soup, refried Beans or baked potato, and Protein like steak and chicken. Say??? A Tuesday night? June 5th? Let me hear from you. You can email, text, message on here, or whatever. 6. Guessing I'm just different. I would/could have done it IF I was able to stop often and walk, and wasn't driving so I could lay my seat back and snooze. But rent a really nice heavy car, and no off roading. Not the time for a dune buggy.
  7. Dfw area here. Surgery was 4/18 and first fill is friday
  8. Mexican was easy for me. I love tortilla soup. I just took the chunks out and had the broth.
  9. I am following my guidelines pretty closely. I was 3 days early on the beef yes, but this is with water and everything and has been going on since day one. This isn't the early beef. Btw- if I hadn't had the beef I would have killed someone and therefore be in jail being fed bologna sandwiches!
  10. Does anyone else burp all the time? I'm 11 days out - doing great. Averaging a pound a day of loss (mostly water at this point, I know). I feel fine. Incisions are healing well. I'm not getting anywhere near enough calories, but I'm trying. Walking for exercise. Getting most of my water in, everyday. Had my first beef yesterday. My husband ordered a 1/2 pound burger (weight before grilling) I took 1/4 of it, tossed the bread and veggies and ate half of my portion. So one once of groud beef. Chewed really well. And had no problems from it. One ounce was plenty because it was so dense and I was nervous to eat too much. But I burp, man I burp. All the time I burp. I had 6 sips of coffee this moring and I'm burping. It's not about being full, which is what I thought at first. It's just burping. Not sliming, Not PBing, just plain old, everyday burp. Does anyone else have this same problem? It is embarrassing. I feel like a crude drunk Sailor.
  11. I agree. My band has no fluid so is basically sitting there waiting to go to work. But because I CAN doesn't mean I have SHOULD eat something. Went to IHOP at midnight last night. Had two fried eggs. Thought protein, thats good! No bacon, potatoes, toast, anything. Just eggs. Almost 200 calories! Crap! How many millions of times have I had two eggs with all the other stuff??? Walked 25 min today and burned less than the two fried eggs. Much less. MFP is an eye opener
  12. I am using My Fitness Pal ( android app ) to monitor calories. Wow. No wonder I am fat! I had no idea how many calories some things had. We don't really eat fried foods and things like that, but things like the creamer in my coffee! Wow. Anyone else shocked?
  13. I am a newbie. I do not profess to know anything. But honestly, I don't get it. How does the intake change? I don't doubt that it does, but I don't understand how. I'm newly banded and watch the forum for information. I'm not getting anywhere near as many calories as I should, and I know it. I'm just now on mushies and I expect it to get better soon. I assume (ass-u-me) that when I can eat the Protein I'm eventually supposed to be able to have, I will responsible for making sure I don't have more that one portion. But am I supposed to be seeing how much I can eat? Right now, I can tell you it's not much. But I see questions like this all the time where people say they can eat more than they should be able to. I understood or misunderstood, whichever way you look at it, my nutritionist to say the band was a tool to help me feel full faster, but that I would still have to watch my food, be responsible for my intake, and pay attention to my diet. I understood it wasn't about what I could eat, more about what I should eat. I'm not passing any judgement, because Lord knows I wouldn't be in this shape if I had any good sense about nutrition. Before I get the hate mail that I'm sure will follow, someone explain to me where my misconception is.
  14. Totally agree! I am better this morning and at least at this moment trying to remind myself of the mistakes I made yesterday. I am 7 days post op. I only lost 4 pre-op (lack of willpower ) and have lost a little over 9 since surgery. My screw up yesterday was just the first of many, I'm sure. But I was so disappointed in myself. At least this morning I don't hurt as badly. I raise my shake glass to you all in a toast to better choices!
  15. Oh Lord! No fruit! I dont think I could handle that.
  16. According to my instructions I am on full liquids from 72 hrs out up until my 1week drs visit, which is Wednesday. I am keeping it down, damn it. Its miserable. But I guess I should consider it a painful price to pay for my own stupidity! I know better. I'm not sure when I start mushies, but do think the shake was ok just way too much volume.
  17. I dont know what I was thinking. I just had my first shake since being banded on the 18th. I only had half of it, but still. I am miserably full. To the extent that if I could vomit I would feel better. Since my band is so new, I am concerned that I will damage it. I don't want to cause myself any problems... Don't want to stretch my pouch. This is terrible. Anyone else do this?
  18. I am 4 days post op. Still on the liquid diet. Should be progressing to full liquids now. So, I bought some creamy chicken soup and ready to have some, but .... Since it's liquid anyway, do I need to stop my water 30 min before I have some? Or as long as it's all liquid, it doesn't matter? thoughts?
  19. Was banded on 4/18. I don't think I'm hungry, but still feel tight in my chest. Not painful. Just tight. Like if I take a deep breath, it's tight. Went to dinner with friends last night, MEXICAN FOOD!! I ordered a cup of tortilla Soup. Spooned out all the chicken, tortillas and avacado - and then had the broth. About 7 or 8 spoon fulls. perfect. I wasn't hungry (but then wasn't when I started either) but felt like I was having dinner with my friends.
  20. I don't really feel badly, I get full, and haven't been as good about getting the water down. Prob 20 oz instead of 60/80. Just not hungry, at all.
  21. It has only been a couple of days and at this point I know hydration is the most important. But I am only getting 150+/- calories a day. Anyone else have the same issue?
  22. My instructions were 4 weeks if it is your own pool, 6 if it is a public pool.
  23. surgical center already called this morning to check on me. I had a rough night because I couldn't get comfortable and woke up with a terrible back ache just becuse of sleeping posiion. Not hungry, at all, but headed for some coffee. I was advised to have something warm every morning -
  24. So... decided I needed something. Had 1/4 cup of chicken noodle soup without and noodles, just broth. And was satisfied. Then had my meds, 1 tsp pain med, and 2 tsp of antibiotics. Those three teaspoons put me over the top. Now miserable
