  1. I couldn't wear my normal underwire for the first 2 weeks because my abdomen was swollen, like I said, my incisions are high up on my tummy...I wore sports bras in the hospital & my first week home & a tank top with a built in bra my first week back at work.
  2. I noticed that several folks have posted about missing pasta...both my NUT & my surgeon told me I can have whole wheat pasta & brown rice at week 3 (now)...was anyone else given this info? I went online & printed out Sleeve Eating guides from 3 different surgeons around the country and they all allow whole grain pasta & brown rice. Gimme feedback PLEEZ!!!
  3. I switched to a different insurance plan last year during open enrollment so I could get my surgery. One of my co-workers had just had LapBand, so I changed my policy to match his and it took exactly one full year, but I was finally sleeved on 2/20/12! Yay!
  4. Hello! Just came across this thread tonight. No, I'm not gay, BUT I just so happen to love everybody!!! Regardless of orientation, religion, race or nationality--we're all living on this green Earth! I wish you well on your journey & I look forward to your updates!
  5. Oh...and I wore comfy sports bras during my stay!
  6. When I finally woke up, I was in the hospital gown. I hit my "Goody Button" (morphine), & called my nurse to unhook my IV so I could shower, cause I felt yucky...I showered with no problem. The incisions were glued, not stiched & were covered with a clear, waterproof adhesive that came off on it's own 1 1/2 weeks out. I put on my fave big tee shirt & my SpongeBob PJ pants & fuzzy socks! I was super comfy for the 2 day stay. I don't think most folks realize how high up the incisions are. All 5 of mine are high up on my tummy, and couldn't be rubbed by waistbands, etc...I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm still wearing loose comfy clothes to work. The only downer about the whole experience was that I couldn't have ANYTHING by mouth until after my leak test, 23 hours after surgery! I washed my mouth out after I brushed my teeth, but boy was I happy to see that crushed ice!!!
  7. That's my Bday too! Congrats! I love my sleeve (2/20/12) it's the best life choice I've ever made!
  8. I understand about the little things...I'm 3 weeks post-op and I've lost 30 lbs. I'm 268 now, so the loss is only obvious to me & those closest to me. When I pass a mirror, I have to peek at me! I can see my "new" face emerging. I've lost some puffiness in my face and I love it! Also, the fat roll in my neck is gone bye-bye!!!! Yay!!!
  9. It ain't Friday, but I'm on mushies (wk 3) and I refuse to eat pureed meat! That is beyond gross to me! I eat VERY soft meat bits or meat that is already mushy (Deviled ham or Deviled roast beef). And today I had a baked chicken wing drummerte! It was soooo good & melt in your mouth tender! I am still drinking protein shakes & I have become a HUGE baked potato fan! My NUT let me add crackers in week 3 & they are my new bread! I can eat 3 whole wheat crackers w/turkey breast & cheese-that's a meal for me!
  10. Speedy recovery to you! And CONGRATS!!!
  11. You go Sara! You are an inspiration to a newbie (3 weeks post op) like me! You look healthy & beautiful!
  12. Work it Girl!! You look wonderful! Wow! I'm just 3 weeks out yesterday & I am dreaming about results like yours!!! Thank you so much for the inspiration! I wear a 8 1/2 shoe... You can send me those sandals! Smokin'!!!
  13. Whoop! Whoop! Congrats & welcome to the club! You are awesome to be up already!!! I slept from recovery until 2:30am the next morning! Lol!
  14. I use Depo-Provera (injection) and I do not have periods at all! I have been on it for the most part of 17 years, I've only gotten off it twice (and I have 2 kids to prove it), while trying to lose weight that never came off. I get my shot once every 3 months and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
  15. You look awesomely happy!!! Congrats and thank you for sharing! Your success is inspiring!
  16. You look awesomely happy!!! Congrats and thank you for sharing! Your success is inspiring!
  17. OMG!!! You look fab!! Congrats and thank you so much for sharing tips & pics! Success like yours is truly an inspiration to us newbies! Go girl! You are rocking your sleeve!
  18. I hate Greek yogurt-too thick & gooey-but I love cottage cheese & fruit! I try to have some cottage cheese everyday I also went to Wallyworld today & replaced my broken blender. In the morning, I'm going grocery shopping for fruit to pop in my GNC Lean 25 smoothies. Yay! Maybe I can finally get some protein!
  19. I took the week of surgery off. I was sleeved on a Monday & honestly thought I'd be back at my desk job the next Monday. However, the Friday after my surgery, pain & fatigue set in and I took Monday & Tuesday off. I returned to work Wednesday feeling just fine, and my back went out Thursday & I ended up taking another week off because I was flat on my back, unable to walk without assistance. After a visit to an Orthopedic Dr, I return to work this Monday! (Yay!)
  20. My original plan was to tell only my 2 besties, my Mom & my 2 sisters. My boss & co-workers all knew, I just didn't want my entire health nut family to know...Well, my Mother told my ENTIRE family & my sister told EVERYBODY at the Wal-Mart & Kroger where we shop...Soooo it's not exactly a secret anymore! :/
  21. I also was sleeved on 2/20/12. I've lost 30 lbs & I started on mushies, per my Dr already. At first, I couldn't tolerate anything cold hitting my pouch, so protein shakes were a no go. I had to force myself to drink room temp New Whey Protein Bullets (yuck), until last week when I could drink my beloved cold liquids again! It's been a roller coaster finding protein that actually tastes good, but I did-GNC 25 is great tasting & affordable! I'm so happy that I had this surgery!!
  22. Im 3 weeks out, and I have given up on protein shakes...I can't find a supplement that doesn't taste like crap...Also, I refuse to eat blenderized meat, so I've been eating soft meats to get my protein in. Today, I had Shrimp Lo Mein, I ate a total of 5 shrimp (chewed well) and 3 forkfuls of soft noodles. On advice from my Dr, I have also been eating Underwood Deviled Ham on wheat crackers. Mango smoothies from Mickey D's have become a lunchtime treat-I can only eat a few spoonfuls, but can I say YUMEE???
  23. Here's my dirty little confession: I mooched meat & a tiny bit of cheese off my kids pizza tonight...and I'm 11 days post-op! And my protein bullets started making me gag, so I ditched it for 2 days until I could go shopping for some shakes, now that I can tolerate cold liquids. I'm craving a mixed drink--and I stopped drinking 6 years ago--whodathunkit???
  24. I was also sleeved on 2/20/12 and I feel great! My only problems so far are that I KNOW I'm not getting in enough water! I'm soo thirsty..but sipping just ain't getting it! Also, I can't tolerate cold liquids hitting my pouch, so this is seriously affecting my protein shakes, which are gross warm/room temp. So tomorrow im switching to protein "bullets". My surgeon tried to prepare me for all possibilities, so he had me stock up. My hope is that I will be able to tolerate cold shakes further down the line, because they are sooo good & so are protein smoothies. Adding chocolate protein powder to sugar free hot chocolate is delish also. If anyone has any ideas for me please share
