  1. I was banded yesterday, and not feeling hunger yet.. I'm on Clear Liquids for week 1, then full liquids starting week 2... My surgeon and nutritionist said to avoid PB until at least after 4 week healing period, and also it's on a list of potential problem foods... You need to follow the diet your surgeon recommended. On that note, I just bought Isopure zero carb Protein Water , which is allowed on clear liquid. That should help curb hunger.
  2. Thank you all so much for the info! Looking forward to getting my isopure, may also buy the variety pack so I can try out different flavors... Can't have regular protein shakes til start of week 2 , basically next Friday
  3. Like everyone said, all surgeons seems to have different protocols regarding pre and post op diets... Mine had me on Atkins induction for 2 weeks prior, but just had band today... Here's what my next 4 weeks look like: Week 1 ... Clear liquids only Week 2 ... Full liquids, protein shakes Week 3 ... Light mushies Week 4 ... Full mushies
  4. I got the apple melon, we' ll see! I was having a hard time finding anything comparable, and am worried about low protein intake
  5. Hey all... I was just banded TODAY!! Recovering nicely... Been sipping on Water, tea, light juice, when I can... So my diet regimen over next 4 weeks is: Week 1 only Clear liquids and Protein water Week 2 creamy liquids, Protein shakes, smoothies, strained creamy Soup , etc Week 3 very mushies Week 4 more mushies added I have not been able to find a good protein water, but my brother who is a personal trainer told me about this one http://www.isopureplus.com/weight_loss_surgery.html Wondering if anyone has tried? Also, any other recommendations? It seems a little pricy, especially at GNC, but I bought a 12 pack on amazon for 10$ cheaper... Just looking for a way to get some protein in....
  6. Officially banded, this morning!!! Some pain not bad, manageable ... Gas pains are annoying but I've started with the gas x so hope it helps.... No nausea thank goodness ... Think I'm just gonna try to sleep, I'm more tired than anything
  7. Yikes! Less than 24 hours! I report tomorrow at 7:30 am for surgery ! I'm as ready as I'll ever be, got all my Rx filled, my gas x strips, plenty of clear liquids for post op, gummy vitamins , comfy clothes and a good book... Good luck to sojourner, mrsbrown, Sophia , and Kim , on all of your surgeries tomorrow !!!!
  8. Hi Jenn - There's another woman getting surgery the same day as me, and he Dr did not make her go on a pre-op diet either... I think it just depends on surgical protocol... also, what about patients that go out of country? I always wondered if they had to go on pre op diet before flying to Mexico.... Good luck to you on your journey!
  9. Hi there! We are scheduled for the same day! I'm on a pre op diet, but it's Atkins , less than 20g carbs per day... I'm also excited , nervous , scared etc as this will be my first surgery ... Can't believe it's just 4 days away! Good luck and keep in touch !
  10. So good to hear everyone's updates! Congrats to all who have made it through surgery, and good luck to all on pre op diet... I have six days til surgery and I'm finally starting to get excited... I'm down 8lbs so far on pre op (Atkins) and I'm feeling pretty good! My mom who is getting banded with me is also on Atkins, but she has been cheating quite a bit, and hasn't lost any.... Her BMI is pretty low so she'll probably be ok, though I think she's sticking to diet after a little scare from the surgeon at pre op meeting. Have a great weekend everyone!
  11. I'm am scheduled for surgery with Dr Esquivel on feb 24, actually me and my mm are going together, Avignon surgery back to back. We're out of Austin but driving to San Antonio for surgery at turning point center.... The experience has been great so far, love the staff at Austin office and paul has been great. Had an EGD with Esquivel 2 weeks ago and found him calming, caring, and reassuring.
  12. So good to hear everyone's banding experiences this month!! Congrats to all you who have become bandsters so far! I'm about a week into pre op diet, lost about 4 lbs, but totally craving carbs and sweets! Going in for pre op class on the 14th.... Starting to get excited! Less than 2 weeks!
  13. Yay! The 3 of us need to keep in touch and support each other post op
  14. Sojourner! You and I are scheduled for same day! Fingers crossed for you!
  15. Hi Will - congrats on the go ahead! i too have a hiatal hernia that will defer the costs of the lap band... are you using True Results? It seems pretty standard that they do an EGD if you've reported any kind of acid reflux. Its definitely a nice perk to have the cost of surgery cut in half, plus getting the hernia fixed as well! Also congrats to batii!! you must be feeling so relieved to have that approval in hand! As for me, I just started my pre-op diet (a few days early, but what the heck) I'm doing atkins induction, so less than 20g of carbs a day - whew! I figured I might as well get a head start on the diet, maybe try and lose a couple extra and do a 2 1/2 week pre-op diet. Have a good day everyone!
  16. Oy, I am so not looking forward to the gas... It just sounds awful
  17. february is turning out to be quite a busy month! good luck everyone!
  18. In Austin tx... Surgery is 9,900 out of pocket, bt I'm having hiatal hernia repair as well so partly covered by insurance... I'll pay 5,500 out of pocket... This includes all preop, nutritionist, etc plus 6 months of fills
  19. I am such a list maker, plus I believe in setting tangible goals and giving rewards... Surgery is feb 24th... Here are my goals and rewards Lose 25... Massage Lose 35... New hairstyle, cut, color, etc Lose 50... Botox Lose 60... Laser hair removal Lose 75... Spa day splurge: full day of treatments at spa Lose 85... Splurge on some designer shoes and clothes Lose 95... Trip to Ireland
  20. Breathe! Everything will be alright just make yourself a checklist to get organized Here's some stuff to think about ... Pre op diet ... Post op diet shopping list ... Liquid vitamins Don't worry about Rx, your dr will tell you when to get filled... Some do before, some give you Rx day of surgery Also think about attending a support group meeting... My surgery center has them every 2 weeks
  21. I think you can buy the children's you just have to take more.... Or you can ask your local pharmacy , maybe they can order for you.... I redrew my liquid vitamins online too... Multivitamin, and also liquid calcium plus D
  22. Thank you everyone for your responses!
  23. HI All - getting ready for surgery on FEB 24th!!! Just had some questions for post-op bandsters.... I have some concerns about scarring and incisions... How many incision sites are there? My patient advocate had 3 tiny lap scars and one slightly larger scar below belly button... Also, how bad is the scarring? Has anybody used any treatments to cover scars? Thanks! Would love to hear your experiences!
