  1. Great thank you! I have a pretty good pain tolerance, but have never had surgery of any kind before, so we'll see Just worried about getting in and out of a car all day and standing on my feet trying to talk to dentists and staff.... ugh. Maybe I can work from home a few days.... My surgery is on a friday morning, and I was planning on going back to work on Monday, but I may need to take a few more days off....
  2. Hi - I'm getting mixed results when asking this question... How much time to I **reasonably** have to take off work? I'm in Dental Sales, so I'm in and out of a car all day.... but not really carrying much. My surgeon is part of True Results, and the PA I've been seeing there says only 3-4 days. However, Another PA there is seeing my mom, who is having surgery with me, and told her a week, plus only light duty, not lifting, climbing etc, for 4-6 weeks (my mom's an insurance adjuster). I've also read and heard that patients still aren't feeling quite right and are in pain a week or more after surgery... What has your experience been? Just wondering what the reality is....
  3. My surgeon has patients go on restrictive atkins diet - less than 20g carbs per day.... all lean proteins, and cheese and dairy.... this diet is started 2 weeks before surgery, there is no "required" weight loss, but they are up front about shrinking the liver....
  4. I'm going to true Results in Austin, but having the surgery done at Turning Point surgery center in San Antonio. I've already been to the surgery center for an EGD. I have found the True Results staff in both Austin and San Antonio to be GREAT. Very caring, helpful, courteous. My surgeon was Dr. Esquivel. I have nothing but great things to say about True Results, and am looking forward to my surgery on Feb 24th!
  5. Hi! I'm Marissa, from Austin, TX, and I'm scheduled for surgery on Feb 24th. I've been overweight for more of my life than I have not - and I am a perpetual dieter. I have tried EVERYTHING. I've had some skinny days in my life, but could never hold on to them long... thus, I have boxes and boxes of skinny clothes (size 6!) stacked in my garage, that I am just DYING to get back into. Sadly, I didn't get to wear those for long, and I should have known better than buying a bunch of designer clothes in size 6, since odds are, that I wasn't gonna be thin enough to really even enjoy them. But of course, I said what I'm, sure every perpetual dieter says.... I'm never gonna let myself get heavy again... I'm throwing out or giving away all of my fat clothes... riiiiiight. Then I was just stuck with a bunch of beautiful tiny clothes that now, if I tried, I wouldn't even be able to cram a thigh into.... But I digress. My story. I am 32 years old, and tired of being overweight. Yes, I love to eat. That is the root of the problem. Dieting helps - sometimes. Not much, and it is a constant battle against the hunger. And obesity runs in my family. I have 2 aunts that have gotten RNY bypass, and an uncle and a cousin that have gotten Lap Band. My mom and brother are also overweight. And I am now at the heaviest I have been in my life -- if I was a drug addict, you could say I'm now hitting rock bottom. So I'm doing something about it. WITH MY MOM. Yep, we decided to take charge of our weight and our health, and we are getting the surgery done together - back to back. Its going to be quite the adventure, but at least I have a close support buddy to share it with every step of the way. At least family dinners and holidays will be a bit easier, since we'll have each other to lean on! And the countdown begins... here I come FEB 24th! This skinny girl wants OUT!!!
  6. I am scheduled for 24th!! Me and my mom are getting banded together, having surgery back to back... Good luck everyone!
