  1. Terrane, my surgery is June 18th. I'm self pay, which I assume you are too. You sound like you're doing great on your diet! I am day 3, absolutely no cheats at all.....today. I was having protein snacks the first two days and was told that's a no-no. I'm so used to low carbing that I thought it was okay. Did I mention I get 700 freaking calories a day? I got some salad spritzer today and stocked up on Lean Cuisines with less than 300 calories. Oh JOY. I hope it will get better. No wonder I'm fat....I HATE diets. I cannot even think about anything else but how much I want a glass of wine! It's probably for the best. I got a call from the docs office that my A1C is 8.6, the highest ever. They said are you taking your glucophage.....noooooo. Feel free to email me. Notime2qlt@aol.com
  2. YES!! I'm June 18th. Email me if you like: notime2qlt@aol.com I told my dietician that I didn't like my diet! She was surprisingly nonsympathetic! LOL
  3. I am posting this thread for any pre-op dieters who want to scream, shout, cheer, spit, encourage, flail, support, b*tch, dance or ____! Day 3 of a 700 calorie diet here. That's 2 shakes, 1 Lean Cuisine, and all the salad with Wishbone Spritzer that I want. Akkkkkk!! Who else?
  4. Hello June Bugs! GOOD LUCK to all the June 6th banding people! I am on day 3 of my preop diet. I finally made contact with my dietician who says I'm on the right track if I'm having my 2 shakes and 1 Lean Cuisine a day. The goal is 700 calories or less. I told her I didn't like it one bit! I actually surprised myself when I said that in a very whiny voice. lol Anyone else suffering on a preop diet? LOL
  5. Welcome to the new June bugs! Hey, maybe that's what we should name the thread?
  6. Toni......LOL as if my kids would notice! I will let you know....if or if I don't tell them. I am concerned about their reaction and about them letting it slip. If hubby and I do sit them down for a talk, it will be next week. My oldest graduates from HS this week and there is much going on here. Hotty.......thanks for doing the calendar. I notice I'm the only surgery on the 18th. Lots on the 19th...good luck to all. Today is day #2 of my diet. I still need to talk to my dietician. We are playing phone tag. I made my appt. with my regular doc and had my labs/A1C done today (fasting). Every checkmark I put in the box brings me closer and more excited!
  7. Cblancha9, our surgery dates are the same!
  8. Janine, I'm from WA state. I did live for 4 years in Northern VA though....loved it there. I think I will discuss this with my family, but maybe not right away. Day #1 of my preop diet went okay. I had my 2 shakes and I'm having my Lean Cuisine in a minute. Wish me luck...I'm a late night snacker! I can't believe I'm finally doing this! Yeehaw!
  9. I am trying to decide whether or not to tell my kids. They are teens. My youngest, she is the village voice. I hate not telling them, but I don't want it broadcast. Ugh!!
  10. Thanks Pinenut! Yes I do have stairs...but I have a very capable hubby too! :welldoneclap:
  11. Hi guys. I have my surgery date. June 18th. Two weeks!! I gave up on insurance....I'll be self pay. I start the diet today. I picked up a few items last night....new t's with shelf bras so I won't have to wear one, Gas-X, liquid tylenol for ADULTS!, Tucks. I am trying to compile a list of stuff. Everything is gellin' together....... I'd be interested in any gatherings in Silverdale area. *** FYI there will be a new FillcenterUSA opening in Poulsbo, WA.***
  12. I have my date....June 18! We are leaving on our wedding anniversary, so as far as anyone knows, we're on a getaway. I just booked the flights. I start my diet today. I'm having labs done at my docs tomorrow. Good luck everyone!
  13. When I saw the show on the Osborne's, the doc described Sharon's procedure as "sectioning" the stomach and sewing the band in. Did anyone else get that?
  14. I'm curious. Has anyone here in WA had their surgery done in MX?
  15. Hi. I'm from the Olympic Peninsula. I thought I'd check in and let you guys know how it's going. I'm not getting anywhere with approval. We've written a letter to my husband's work appealing the insurance denial. We understand they can approve on a case-by-case basis. The thing is, we sent the letter 4-5 weeks ago. Now playing the waiting game. How the heck do we know they even received it? If it doesn't get approved, I am going to MX (Ortiz). Ugh, I'm so frustrated at this point, and I'm losing my nerve. Advice anyone?
  16. Nbjen you did so awesome! I can only imagine how I'll be a little freaked out when they put me under. Thank you for posting your experience. I hope I will be getting there soon. I am still waiting on a reply from dh's employer. Keep us all posted on your progress!
  17. Oh yes...Starbucks. I have had my Barista for going on 10 years now. No problems except when the portafilter basket ended up in the disposal but I got a replacement and an extra. You can probably find a used Barista to try out....try ebay.
  18. These are my most recent and revolutionary finds! Batherapy...the regular or the lavender....so nice after gardening Novafoam mattress topper! Recently I was out of town and went and got a twin for the motel bed. It worked well for my son's bed but next time I go I'm taking it! I just got a CHOICES pillow which is memory foam on one side and puff on the other. Love it! Body butter. Any kind. I have something from Walmart that is grape seed. My feet thank me every time I use it. Those little crank things you put on wine bottles. They are made by Zyliss. I can put those babies on and lay a wine bottle on it's side in the fridge. Chucker ball thrower for my dog. Avoid the slobber! NothinZ clogs. I finally caved for a Croc knock-off.
  19. She looks like a meth addict....which she probably is.
  20. You have got to be kidding! Dr. Kirshenbaum will not accept UHC! I am floored.
  21. Yep, I'm waiting.....waiting for appointments, waiting on docs, waiting on insurance hasn't even begun. I called a month ago, and my first consult is the 28th. After that, they said 6-8 wks for insurance to reply, then if I need to appeal, another 6-8 wks. It's plain stupid! I had planned to go to MX, then decided to try to add insurance on my husband's part time job and go that route. My surgery date in MX was 4/16. So, I don't even know if this route will work or I will be back to square 1. I have also used all my flier miles when I booked 2 RT tix to MX. I am frustrated to the max!
  22. AMRDMR, I am trying to submit my husband's new insurance now. I am in contact with Dr. Neal's office, which is in Olympia. He also does surgeries in Shelton, which is close to me. I have my consult with him on 3/28 and then they will submit the preauth. Crossing my fingers and trying to be patient as my MX surgery date of 4/16 goes by...I was going to Dr. Ortiz also. :)
  23. Dyno, I'm sorry if you read what I said an interpreted it as "you need to grow up" because that's not what I felt I did in my own life. Maybe I did? I felt like I had to protect myself and my family, and I did that best by just filtering and not responding. A counselor told me to pay attention to the behavior I wanted to increase. The rest just turn a deaf ear to. Just look polite (haha) and then delete delete delete. Don't respond. Just go "hmmmm" when she talks. A "hmmm" like it's interesting and you'll think about it...probably NOT. I don't know if that will help you but it helped me. I knew my mom's problems were just that she was unhappy herself. It was totally useless to try to talk to her because she was defensive and always shut down. My counselor (he was wise man) also told me that I should picture the criticisms and remarks as an elephant sitting over my shoulder...a pretend one...and ask myself if because someone told me I had an elephant sitting on my shoulder, did that mean I had one? I know that's a weird way to put it, but I think it represents a burden.....if your mom says you have a problem with such and such, are you willing to accept that burden (which really belongs to her)? I hope that makes sense...it worked for me. I'm sorry you're going through this....it's not right...it's abuse. The best thing you can do for yourself is break the cycle...it stops with you.
  24. My mom would do the same thing...she liked to tease and get my goat, especially in front of people so she could make me upset and then laugh about how *sensitive I was. It never ended. I mentioned lap band a few times and she told me I was nuts...that people died from that, etc., and I would never be right again, etc. And she was the same weight as me, probably higher BMI and blood sugars over 300....and gave me a hard time about starting on glucophage...she wouldn't even acknowledge her diabetes. It was frustrating, and I had to distance myself from a lot of the criticism and barbs. It was a long and difficult struggle and I like you was a "good girl" who did what was expected. The thing is, last November she had a hysterectomy and I took care of her at the hospital while my brother and his familiy went to Hawaii and her husband went back home the day after surgery...brought her home and all was well...then four weeks later she got a DVT (blood clot) and fell flat on her face and died....didn't know what hit her. No goodbyes....no "I'm proud of you" afterall, no nothing. But you know what...I *choose to believe she loved me, was proud of me and just didn't know better. I miss her desperately and would do anything to have her back. My life is forever changed because of her....I don't remember much of the negative stuff anymore, I remember that we loved each other and she was always there for me...even if it was to nitpick me. She just wanted me to be better. Appreciate your mom while she's here, because when she's gone, she's gone and you'll never hear another word. I think you are lucky to have your mom...you are 57 and she's still kicking (screaming lol). I'm 43 and my mom was the kingpin of our family and now she's gone and there's nothing to hold it together. We'll have a new family when my kids marry and have kids....but there's always going to be the void. Appreciate the continuity you have. Appreciate your mom for who she is...even if she's harsh, you have to have a built-in filter to get rid of the junk. I remember I'd just give my mom a blank stare, like "you can't get to me even if you try" and I'd just laugh right back at her for how ridiculous she was.....and she got it. Sorry if this seems like I'm lecturing...I guess it's just been building...it will be 4 months this Friday that she's been gone and sometimes I forget and think I can just pick up the phone or go 5 miles up the road and take walks through her herb garden with her after supper.
