If I Can't Eat, What Will I Do With Myself???
I asked myself the same thing hours before being banded. Then my husband said what will you do years from now still fat and depressed and stuffing your face and watching everyone live their life while you're sitting on the sidelines. It shocked me he was so harsh but its something I've said a million times.

Post Surgery Surprises
Peristalsis is the contractions your bowels make to move food through your digestive tract and out of it. That was a doozie! But pain oly lasted til I made it to the bathroom. It didn't help that I pigged out day before surgery. As for the shoulder pain mine lasted a couple of days (2) or so. The pain is actually from the gas they blow up your tummy with during surgery so the more you move around the quicker you get rid of it! I went back to work 4 days post surgery and I'm a nurse assistant at a hospital where I have to transfer patients up 180 lbs quite a few times a day. I had liquid Vicodin but I crushed Tylenol during work so I wouldn't be drowzy. Thanks for reading!

The Good, The Band And The Angry
So... I'm constantly reading around on the forums for support encouragement, inspiration and experiences. Lately I've come across so many angry and negative experiences and comments that I have to admit I actually lost some sleep. Hek... I even called the doc and was about to ask for another fill without weighing in to check results on my first fill. I know we are all individuals with different results. Even extremely varying results, but it seems a lot of posts blasting the lap-band don't really tell the full story. What did these people eat? Was there any other medical conditions? And if it truly did not work I don't believe it was the lapbands fault. Sometimes things are beyond our control. Sometimes things are written down in detail right under our nose and we choose to ignore them so we don't step out of our comfort zone. I have also read many post about people giving up on the band and getting gastric bypass. This is extremely shocking to me. My brother had gastric bypass 10 years ago after stepping on a freight scale that read 590 lbs. I have watched him go though hell, still over eat, need supplements for all vitamins and minerals (because with gb you only absorb

Need A Fill Quick!!!!!
I agree protien is the way to go. I had my first fill last Saturday. I'm waiting two weeks and if I don't lose I'm calling the doc for another fill, I gained one lb. Remember the band is a tool, not cure. Think of it as portion control with an edge!

Just Getting Started
I actually went to five seminars in order to not just get info but get a feel for the surgeons and see how they answered my questions and how they came off. My Doc recommended I lift no more than 10 lbs up to four weeks after surgery but I am a CNA and I went back to work 4 days after surgery and began transfering patients to and from wheelchairs, shower chairs, beds etc. I don't recommend this activity so quick but I did it and I was fine. As for a surgeon in your area search the surgeons and reviews here on this site. Good luck to you.

Going To Dr Kuldeep Singh For Initial Pre-Op Consult
Hi, I wish you the best of luck on your personal journey. While there is no replacement for the support of friends and family I've been a member here for a few weeks and I've found you can ask for info and experience testimonials on any topic and people are very honest and helpful. I had surgery in California and found that the outpatient surgery departments are kind of loud and frustrating people are in and out a lot but youl be in and out fast too. As long as you feel you have a great doc then keep the faith. Good luck to you and kno you can accomplish your goal!

Post Surgery Surprises
I'm glad to say gas pains are gone! However a milder version does appear when I overeat. So the lesson here is don't over eat! My doctors rule for that is detailed in my first blog titled "first fill... First blog" thanks for sharing guys. Makes me feel like people give a darn!

Post Surgery Surprises
I had my surgery on December 23, 2011 in a Hospital and was discharged about 4 hours later. I had done a lot of research online and asked a lot of questions of the doctors and other post op patients. The things that surprised me the most were: #1 - the SHOULDER PAIN! Oh that lovely shoulder pain, caused by the gas that fills your belly during surgery that puts pressure on the diaphram. It was unbearable at the time but went away after two days or so. Gas X meltaway strips were my best friend and still on standby. #2 - instestinal cramps! Surgery in your digestive system can cause peristalsis to stop completely, it happened to me, I found out four days later when it started again and the stomach cramps were like a twisting knife, thankfully it only lasted til I got to the bathroom and about 20 minutes later. But now I'm down 22 pounds and juicy as ever, "how you doin?" Once again this blog represents my experiences and I hope it helps. Thanks to my family... Dr Sal.. And God!

Just Getting Started (Again)
Hi Malinda, when you are ready for anything you will feel it inside. I too have a family member with gastric bypass and I have to remind myself I will not lose the weight that fast and dramatic but we are all individuals and our bodies know what they need. I congratulate youon taking back your life. I am very candid about my journey in my blog. We are all friends here. Fight what you can and God will be your guide... (And your Doctors too of course) Good Luck to you and stay excited about YOU!

First Fill... First Blog
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Well I think 15 to 20 pounds in the first month is awesome. Average I've heard is anywhere from 1 to 5 pounds per week. Remember guys this is not the dramatics of gastric bypass... I think of it as portion control with an edge! I was filled with about 3ccs today and was told that was the most I'd get at once. That was enough per my Doc's technique of filling. I've heard of many different techniques. MY DOCTOR SAL'S RULE FOR EATING: Use a food scale, measure 4 oz of food, take at least 30 mins to eat it chewing at least 30x, wait 30 mins... If ur still hungry do it all again. (But make sure your still hungry! Don't just do it again because your not bloated full!!!) Love ou uys for reading !! Keep up the fight!

First Fill... First Blog
This is my first blog so I hope I'm doing this right. My name is Sandra and I'm a married mom of two wonderful boys. I was banded on December 23, 2011 and lost 20 ppounds in the first two weeks. In the second two weeks not so much... I gained 1 pound. So, today was my first fill and it was a lot easier than I expected. The Doc asked me to lay on my back. He found my port and numbed me a bit then filled me up. He then had me sit up and sip water until I could feel it in my throat.then he removed some fluid from my band until the water moved down smoothly. I sat in the loby until I could comfortably drink a half bottle of water. Then I left for home. Awesome. I feel great. If this helps anyone else then my time is well worth it. Thanks to my family... Dr Sal... And thanks be to God.

Got A Date!!
I feel you! Hi, please try to go into this as a wonderful experience for the rest of ur life. I know its scary! I to am the mom of a two year old I went back to work after 3 days off and I'm a CNA in a senior living facility. My husbands support consisited of driving me home from surgery because he was such an emotional wreck in fear of something going wrong. Please reach out here as much as you want. I don't know what you will go through but for me the worst part was the shoulder pain from the gas. GasX meltaway strips were my best friend, and when my baby was restless yo gabba gabba and angry birds while laying on my side in bed with him did the trick along with coloring books and gluing beans onto shoboxes just to keep him busy.
