  1. I just read this thread and I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Hope it gets taken care of as soon as possible. Wishing you the best! I hope it gets better!
  2. I can assure you I felt hungry when I was on the liquid diet after surgery. Those hormones ARE definitely still acting up at first. IT got much better when I could at least eat mushies like mashed sweet potatoes or something. That liquid diet is the worst part of the whole thing. Now that I can eat dense Protein with no problems I get full extremely fast. Just give yourself a little time and you will feel the restriction. As far as liquids, I can understand ya on that! I am diabetic too and I just had to constantly sip sip sip. No giant gulps.
  3. That first 6 weeks was easy on my body but hard on my mind. My family ordered pizza out and I couldn't have any and wasn't sure how to handle that. I thought oh I can just eat the toppings...well, I didn't but it was mentally difficult. The liquid diet and mushies stage was hard on me. However, once I could eat some dense protein like chicken or shrimp it got a LOT better. I love chicken and fish and shrimp etc so I have done ok on the protein first. I know how it is to struggle with this! I still fight urges sometimes.
  4. Oh I was the same way! I thought I was going to drive my husband crazy talking about it constantly before the surgery! I even brought my phone to check for updates on threads on the forums almost everywhere I went. I was wayyy too obsessed. It's sooo close! you don't have to wait much longer..Best wishes!
  5. I am so excited for you! I had the EXACT SAME FEAR! I thought on my surgery date that I wouldn't believe it was real until I woke up and was told that I had surgery. I was afraid I'd get rejected for some reason before surgery or wake up from surgery without being sleeved because of some fluke complication. I felt like I was being teased with surgery until it actually happened. And guess what? I woke up sleeved! I am sure you are going to be fine!! I understand your fear. I had it and everything worked out. I am so glad you have a supportive family and friends too. It will make everything so much better for you. Best wishes and good luck to you today! Via con dios!
  6. I don't think so. I think you are doing okay. 600 cals at the mushy stage is not too little and not too much. Im sure you are chewing everything to a mushy consistency right? That would make it go down easier.
  7. Wow! Big transformation! You look like you've even lost more than 60! I would have guessed 80-90. Great job
  8. The Atkins strawberry protein shakes are sooo good. The only protein shake I like! the rest of them were kinda gross.
  9. I have recovered fine and am losing weight as expected. The experience was a little scary at first, going into Tijuana, but you quickly feel better with the staff and at the clinic. Also, the other patients were with me and we made each other feel better. I trusted the doctor. He has a lot of experience. I didn't really have much pain after surgery, just discomfort and some gas. I was one of the lucky ones for sure.
  10. I flew in a plane just a few days after surgery. If you feel good enough, then why not? have fun and good luck!
  11. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-05-07/allergan-receives-u-dot-s-dot-subpoena-over-weight-loss-device We have heard about this for years on the forums! I am glad someone is finally paying attention! I know there are many successes, but there are also just as many problems and horror stories! That is just not going to cut it.
  12. Catlady--I am so sorry to hear about your complications! I am a little late reading this. My heart goes out to you and I am sorry you have to go through this. I am very happy that you are okay and alive but sad that you are faced with such a challenging complication. Please, if you need anything or just want to talk, I'm here. I want you to be okay mentally as well as physically and I just want you to know you have a friend in me, and in most people here on VST. We are all in this together, and when one of our own is having a complication, you can bet we will be there for you.
  13. Bless your heart Rebel! You've been through a lot. It's ok! You lost 50 lbs at 6 months and you've hit a bit of a stall for 2 months. It happens.. Relocating to a new place and money stress are definitely food triggers. Try to replace the junk food with something low cal that you actually like. Pack your meals for work so you don't get as tempted to go get fast food. I am sure you can break the stall and get the scale moving again if you just replace the bad stuff with good stuff. Try just going out for a walk at lunch or in the morning before work even if it's only for 20 minutes just to keep your body moving. good luck!! I hope things get better for you soon too!
  14. Just read through this thread for the first time since joining. Let me tell ya WOWZERS! People keep on posting pictures! It is impressive, inspiring, jaw-dropping, and FUN! You ladies and gents look so much happier in the after pics and have some gawwwgeous outfits on too! Lovin lilmissdiva's sexy poses lmao! You go ! And so many slender and healthy people! My goodness! Any newbies should surf right over here.
  15. Hey there- Just want you to know that I have definitely heard of 2 month stalls. Also you must have lost that 42 lbs REALLY FAST so maybe your body is just catching up from the rapid loss--which explains the stall.. Some people have a stall 3 weeks after surgery. Some people 3 months after surgery. Sounds to me like you hit the stall at 3 mos. If I were you I would make sure to get in some exercise at least 3 days a week for 45 min to an hour. DEFINITELY cut out the beer. Or try a lower calorie beer. Check out: http://getdrunknotfat.com It's a site that shows beer and the calorie content and even more. Be smart about it. You can't let this stall control you. Just keep on eating right, exercise at least a few days a week, and either stop drinking or be smart about it. You will beat the stall.
  16. I have heard of some RNY'ers revising to the duodenal switch and being much more successful. I have heard of successful "band over bypass" people. I guess I just would worry if I were you that the band is usually temporary (usually a maximum of 10 years, and that's if you're lucky, before the band gets taken off). If I were you, I'd get the DS. Dr. Ponce De Leon in Tijuana, if I am right, can do the duodenal switch. I have also heard of Dr. Ungson in Mexico who is supposed to be the best DS surgeon in Mexico. Maybe you can get in touch with him. I have heard that Dr. Almanza does the duodenal switch on occasion, as a matter of fact, i've read about it being done. However, I think it might be much more difficult for him to do the bypass to DS because perhaps he isn't experienced enough to do it confidently. The band may work for you. Who knows? I just am saying personally I would choose the DS if you have the option to get it. It's got a much better chance of long term weight loss.
  17. I have to tell you I am SO sorry. I , too, agree that if you could have foreseen this happening you could have just gone to Puerto Vallarta and had the sleeve surgery and a lovely vacation. That is absolutely sickening that you are having to go through this. I was like the other poster and assumed that once the insurance company sent approval over, that it was said and done. I obviously don't know squat. I went to Mex to get surgery because I knew I couldn't get it paid for here in the U.S. I tell you this, if I ever need chemotherapy or radiation I am going to Mexico. I don't want to worry about paying for an insurance company in America back for something I thought was covered! I agree that you should get a lawyer after you've tried getting on the phone with the insurance company. You should call them and ask them exactly what happen and why they are now going to ask for money back. If all else fails, find out how much the hospital charges for self-pay. I absolutely agree with the other poster who said that. If something bad happens and you do have to pay for it, you should be able to get it drastically reduced. This would be after you try to get a lawyer and see what you can get done.
  18. I absolutely agree with that. You still feel hungry for a while and the liquid does not make you feel full. Trust me, the minute you try something with substance you will KNOW you have been sleeved. You will get full really fast!
  19. You look fab! Rock that bod! Im so happy for you. 3 hour work outs? Hardcore!
  20. I hope things get better for you soon!!
  21. Those are the best celebrations of all!
  22. Congrats! You're a success! I bet you feel like a million bucks!
  23. Hey there. i can tell you that you won't feel so restricted with the sleeve that you can only eat cheese or chips or chocolates (slider foods). That is what kills the weight loss. You will be able to eat chicken, meats, veggies and more a month or two after surgery. You will be able to eat more healthfully with the sleeve. I think it was scary to go into surgery but once it was over, I felt like it was the most simple surgery I'd ever had done! I've had several surgeries and this was the easiest recovery. best of luck
  24. I hope you start feeling better soon. Those first weeks are the hardest. It really is like breaking an eating addiction.
