  1. I had surgery with Dr. Almanza on August 26th of 2011 and am down from 386 to 228. 158 pounds. That is 57 bmi down to 33. Had a nice experience. Didn't take any pain meds after I got home, and didn;t need them. Probably would have gotten hooked on pain meds if I would have had it done in the states. Doctors in the U.S. like to give too much medicine. I think you will be fine there. Good luck!
  2. I am still here. Just don't have alot of time to keep up. I had surgery in August of last year with Dr. Almanza in Mexico. I am down an even 150 pounds from 386 to 236. I still go to the gym at least 4 days a week and am in better shape than I have been in 20 years.I want to lose about 40 more pounds, but don't really know when or where it will stop. The last few months have slowed down considerably from the first 4 months around 25 pounds a month to about 10 to 12 pounds a month. Good luck. I think anyone at least 100 pounds over weight should consider being sleeved.
  3. Sleeve was a good fit for me. The band has lots of complications.I was recently told that doctors are removing more bands than they are putting in. The woman that had surgery the same day as me in august of 2011, had hers removed this past week. She was really torn the day of surgery because she was the only one getting the band. Now she regrets it. I am down to 252 from 386 before the sleeve. I have adjusted well. There are a few cons, but the pros far exceed the cons. You will see plenty of both posted on this site. Good luck to you.
  4. Congrats on your decision! I went there in august this year. Not your doctor, but tj. My wonderful wife went with me and my surgery was friday afternoon and return flight home on monday. It wasn't bad. Anyway, I am down to 280 from a pre surgery weight of 386!! Not too shabby in 3 1/2 months. Good luck and I am quite sure you will do fine and not regret doing this.
  5. I went to Dr. Almanza on Aug 26th 2011 and have had no problems! The nurses were very attentive and nice. I am down 103 pds since aug 1st of this year!! Not too shabby!! Anything can happen with any Dr. anywhere!!! He is very experienced and you can feel comfortable with that part of it. As far as the recovery house and the fact that the clinic is in a strip mall, well thats something you can deal with or you can't!! Dr. Almanza himself, is very good at what he does!!
  6. I forgot a couple. I look forward to going to the gym every morning. My feet tell me thankyou everyday!! Watching the biggest loser and not crying because it makes me miserable that I can't do what they are doing!! I play golf without feeling wore out at the end of a round(I can probably play 36 holes now)!!!
  7. I most enjoy the attention that people are giving me. The WOW factor, and I am only half way there. Going to a resturant and telling the hostess it doesn't matter when she ask table or booth!! Having to get clothes every three to four weeks. Making it to 90 pounds in less than 90 days! Feeling great! Knowing that I can go anywhere and do anything!!! No more avoiding things!!!! I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!!
  8. My name is Wes and I am just a week away from my 3 month anniversary and feel so much better also. I am down 95 pounds total including my 3 week preop diet. I still have about 90 to 100 before my goal, but already a major difference in the way I feel and look. Everytime I see someone I haven't seen since my surgery, It gives me great satisfaction to see their reaction. I will post before and after pics when I get closer to my goal weight. I do go to the gym for about a 45 min workout every morning and it gets easier every day. I was wearing size 52pants and already in 42, my shirts were 4x and now comfortably in 2x. So the moral of this story to anyone contemplating the surgery is it is AWESOME!!! Congrats!!!
  9. Hi, my name is Wes and I was sleeved on August 25th 2011 in Tijuana. I was 388 pounds at the end of July and 354 on the day of my surgery and today I am at 317. Good luck on the journey. I just started the gym, mostly cardio last week.
  10. I played two weeks post op. I could only finish 11 holes, but went back the next week and played twice and finished both rounds. Probably not recommended that soon, but certainly shouldn't be a problem 8 weeks out!!
  11. How long after your surgery before you got the infection, and what were the symptoms you ignored?
  12. I had my surgery on august 26th. Pre op I was 386 and down to 354 day of surgery and then down to 329 last week. I weighed yesterday and had gained four pounds. Sounds like everyone has a stall aound three weeks! I plan on starting the gym today!!
