  1. I am a former bandster (soon to be bypasser). My surgeon removed my band and said I had some extremely dense scar tissue all through my stomach. She's making me wait a few months before going back. She said that that scar tissue massively improves with time. She even made the comment that its amazing how much it heals even only given a week or 2! If it has literally been YEARS for you, I wouldn't worry. Your surgeon won't do the surgery if he/she thinks you're too high risk. Good luck!
  2. So I'm going to do the first June surgery recap! June 3 Lisa R. June 4 Itchambers June 5 Wannabeawifey June 6 Cyndi June 12 Iamworthit June 18 Lori If I missed anyone let me know!! Looking forward to adding future losers to this list!!!! Yay June!!!!!
  3. Congrats Lori and Cyndi!!!! So excited to be losers!!!!
  4. Well, Kelly, welcome to the group! We will all cross our fingers that May comes your way though!!! I can certainly understand the anticipation!!!! Lol.
  5. Thank you! I'm so excited! This has been a long time coming. Now my last hurdle-- getting work to approve the time off. Geez will I ever be happy when I finally wake up from surgery with my bypass! Haha
  6. Just got the call!! Surgery June 5th!!! I'm so excited!
  7. It seems like my battle to get my lap band out and get the bypass has been nothing but an uphill climb! I hate to complain, but my goodness! I had my original date changed and I had to battle work. Then I woke up from surgery to find out I only got my band out and they couldn't do the bypass. Now I may not get my bypass till aug or sept due to my surgeons schedule not lining up with my work schedule. I could cry. I just want this to be done. I'm so depressed and anxious waiting to hear back if my surgeon can make an exception with her schedule and do mine when she said she was going to-- beginning of next month. Please pray. This stress is getting to me.
  8. I was very constipated after my lap band removal and when I added oatmeal in to my breakfast, it worked wonders!
  9. I can't wait! I had this realization today of how badly I need this when I was totally out of breath and coughing just because I had to park a little further away from work than I normally do. I'm so young that its scary!
  10. Hey all! I looked around and couldn't find anything for June surgeries. I don't have my exact date yet, but it will be the 1st or 2nd week of June!! Sooo excited!! I had my lap band out on April 18th and they were supposed to do the bypass, but they weren't able to due to scar tissue. I saw my surgeon today and all should be a go for June! Yay!!!! RNY here I come!!!
  11. How do I become someone's pen pal? I LOVE surprising people and encouraging them!
  12. From what my surgeon told me, the standard is 1.5 feet, but after reading, some surgeons don't always go that far.
  13. You'll be ok... I've heard of that happening before. Some surgeons are very conservative with the bypass and unfortunately some people just NEED that extra couple inches to make the difference. You'll be great and much happier you did! I'd also suggest keeping a food log and making an appointment with your surgeons dietitian to maybe help you tweak your diet for optimum weight loss. good luck!!!!
  14. Anyone have their band out and have time in between the revision? I had my band out on Thursday and they haven't set an exact date for my bypass yet, but it will be sometime within the next 2 months. I made a tuna melt for lunch today. My first bite in and it got stuck!!! I mean, sliming, gagging, painful, stuck! It eventually went through, but I can't believe that the scar tissue from only having a band for 2 years could cause that much of an imprint on my belly that food is still getting stuck. Anyone else have this happen??
  15. Even if you aren't expecting your period, make sure you bring the lady products you like because a lot of women start theirs after surgery even when it's not due. If you don't have your own stuff, you'll be forced to use the 3 inch thick boats that the hospital has. Haha
  16. Toothbrush, tooth paste, comb, pads/tampons, undies, pjs, slippers, cell charger, phone, something to keep you busy, and your own pillow because hospital pillows suck. Haha I also brought deodorant and spray just because I hate feeling icky.
  17. Congratulations! How wonderful that you have such an amazing support system-- shows your great "mothering" and teaching your daughters kindness to serve and take care of their mom when she needed it most! good luck on your journey!! Sounds like you're off to the best start possible! :)
  18. Praying for protection for you and guidance for the surgeons hands tomorrow as well as a fast and comfortable recovery! You'll do great! Let all of us know how you feel-- good and bad! We're all hear and willing to listen!
  19. Hi Carrie, my name is Stacie. I am a former lap bander who will be getting revised to rny in a few weeks. I work for a research hospital and know the value and importance of studies, so I would be honored to participate in yours. Especially knowing that you will be receiving your PhD! How awesome! I will email you my personal email as it contains my last name.
  20. I was going to say... The same exact thing happened to me a week before surgery. They put me on an antibiotic for a few days before and everything was just fine. you'll be fine. Drink lots of hot tea with honey. Honey is a natural antibiotic.
  21. If your insurance is going to cover the procedure, sometimes they will cover limited skin removal as well. Most times, they will only cover a certain area of the body or certain type of skin removal procedure. If they're willing to cover the bypass, in sure they would be willing to cover at least your stomach skin, which when it starts to fold, may get rashes and weep.
  22. Hahahaha yeah, 6-8 weeks is definitely not bad at all. The only thing I'm concerned about now is my surgeon told my fiancé that she may only be able to do the sleeve on me as opposed to rny because of "my anatomy". I'm hoping I can talk her in to rny. I reallllly don't want the sleeve cause I already failed with one purely restrictive procedure. If she says no, I may seek out a 2nd opinion. I feel like this is her just trying to push me in to the sleeve for her studies. She does all kinds of studies and I feel like she would want me to do the sleeve just to be one of her studies. I don't know... I'm sick of worrying about things and just want this all to be over with.
  23. Thank you all SO much for the kind words. I have kind of accepted that my surgeon is one on of the best and it was her duty to watch out for my safety. Thankfully, she's going to do it in 6-8 weeks so I don't have tooooo long to wait. I'm also feeling really good, which is nice. Everything works out for the best and it will be ok. 6-8 more weeks of food! Hahahaha
  24. I was so devastated to learn when I woke up from surgery that they only removed my band and could not do the revision. my doctor said she's very conservative and even a little bad scan tissue would make her stop. I'm so sad... I have to wait a few more months now...
