  1. Are you a carrier of beta thalassemia ?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I suffer quite a bit more than just a carrier. But yes it is beta thalassemia.Sorry to hear about that. My grandmother is a carrier of beta thalassemia and suffered from low Hb all her life. I'm a carrier of sickle cell and unfortunately my child is sickle cell diseased.. His Hb will be 9 at its best.. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I am so sorry about your child. My HB is 9.0 on good days.
  2. You valet is usually sitting close to the nurses desk. They speak pretty good English. The do check on you frequently. I had prepared for no English speaking nurses by figuring out pain and nauseated in Spanish. When I pushed the call button the longest time I would say was 2 minutes. Much better responses than my care in the US. I guess you could send Bill a request for the main wing (the higher number rooms). It depends on the number of patients. There are other surgeons patients having surgery in the hospital. I made friends with a lady with Dr. Z, not with BP group

  4. I am always anemic but it is genetic not iron deficit. If a new doctor sees my labs they assume I am iron deficit. I have to tell them extra iron is not good for me and it will not change my level of anemia. I would love to have a 12.4 hemoglobin.
  5. Yes all my nurses had a basic command of English. I never had a issue with any of them. Who was your valet? I am really sorry you had a bad experience. I do wish we had a nutritionist with a degree.
  6. So I think you will have 2 nights in the hospital and go to the recovery condo on the 3rd day. Take comfortable shoes you will do a lot of walking. Sunscreen and a hat if you are fair. The condo have hair dryers and onsite laundry. Just bring sleeping wear and 3 or 4 comfortable outfits. What I wore in the hospital I got laundered at the condo. I took a camera because I like to take pictures of people. I got my nurses, my doctors (they are all so nice looking). Dr. Illan is a sweetheart. Dr. Rayna is the internist, he is funny. Dr. Flores is the GI doc, he is a little reserved but you can get him to smile. Rosa is the intake representive. You want to tip the drivers and the valets. They look in on you in the hospital and then you will have one at the condo. If they go get something for you I gave them $10. The drivers I gave $20. If you go to eat with the valet you pay for their meals and if they drive you somewhere offer to pay for gas. My valet at the condo was so great I gave them $40. That's all I can think of right now. Oh money for souvenirs.
  7. I had a very good experience with BariactricPal MX. Dr. Illan was my surgeon.
  8. What surgery? How long in the hospital? Are you there any days after the hospital? I wore yoga pants and t-shirts. Other people had knit shorts, knit dresses. You would want stretchy things. Take a heating pad and extension cord. You will depend on your phone or tablet. Mini shampoo and conditioner, body wash, lotions, makeup. GasX strips. I can answere some when I find out about your stay.
  9. I live in Orlando. I had sleeve surgery in Aug 2011. Because of horrible reflux I had revision surgery to a Mini Gastric Bypass. I used BariatricPal and had surgery in Tijuana, MX. It was a very good experience. My surgeon was Dr. Illan at florence Hospital. I would like a local support group too. Once a month a least.
  10. Congratulations. I love your pictures. I am 1 week post op sleeve to MGB.
  11. Why did you want to revise from sleeve to bypass? I had horrible reflux and unsatisfactory weight loss. I had taken the medicine to reduce acid for so long I was having side effects from it. I have not had one episode of reflux since my surgery. Thank you Dr. Illan.
  12. I used BariatricPal to go to MX. Dr. Illan was my surgeon. I am 1 week post op.
  13. Best of luck to you. Let me know which surgeon and how you are doing.
  14. My surgery was July 28 I had a revision from sleeve to MGB. My reflux is gone. So happy already.
  15. What exactly is the mini grastic bypass? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App A mini gastric bypass has one opening, an RNY has 2 stomas. MGB has less risk and quicker recovery. Google Dr. Rutledge YouTube, he has a lot of videos on MGB
  16. I had the best time with Juanito. We walked all over the place to eat and shop and just hang out at the Condo and talk. I was not bored. You have internet and phone that works to the US. You ask to go to the beach one day. Believe me you will have a great time when you are there.
  17. I got a sleeve to mini gastric bypass revision in Tijuana on July 28.
  18. One of May favorite places too. Spent many a night there.
  19. I had MGB surgery July 28 with DR. Illan with BariaticPal TeamMX. I was so well cared for in my stay at the hospital. My first day out of the hospital was so fun with our host Juanito Poloma. We went to eat (broth) and walked around and shopped. I would not hesitate to do it again.
  20. Contact Bill@bariatricpal.com. It was the easiest thing I have ever done medically. I am having surgery this Thursday July 28 revising a sleeve to mini gastric bypass. The MX team will pick me up in San Diego and drive me across to TJ. I will have surgery in a hospital and be there 3 days. Then I will move to a recovery condo for 2 days, with nurses and doctors checking on me. I will have 2 leak tests before I leave. Dr. Illan is my surgeon and just got back from a conference with Dr. Rutledge the surgeon that started the MGB. I was sent a questionnaire to start with but it was not very long. They have 2 years nutritional support and the surgeon has a Facebook page you can post anytime. I am super excited and have had many friends go with this group.
  21. I had reflux before VGS it became unbearable after. I am going to a bypass to get rid of this agony.
  22. I love the Premier banana flavor. I love anything banana.
  23. Bariatric Pal has medical tourism packages for Tijuana MX. Contact bill@bariatricpal.com and he can go go over all the options. My revision from sleeve to Mini Gastric Bypass costs $5399 plus my airfare.
  24. Hope you recovery easily and without pain.
