I might have screwed up the whole thing!
Bigserv can you believe he didn't ask any of your questions? Not one!!!! Thanks everyone for your support & ideas on how to proceed! I won't let this stop me regardless. SkCunningham, so sorry about your sister in law. I also love my EX sister in law like a sister. That must have been terrible for you.

Sleep Apnea-what difference does it make?
Did I misunderstand the question and comments made by the original poster? I am surprised by the answers she is getting. It seemed to me she is upset about the timeline. She is questioning the length of time it is taking to complete the sleep study and proceed to surgery. In my case it only took a few short weeks from initial sleep study, to diagnosis of severe sleep apnea, to second sleep study and receiving a machine. It is taking her months!

Why did you choose the sleeve vs. bypass?
My sister in law had a bypass about 6 years ago and has lost and maintained 140-150 pounds off. She is at a normal weight and has no regrets whatsoever. However, I did not want my intestines touched. Malabsorption (sp?) scares me.

Sleep Apnea-what difference does it make?
Sounds ridiculous. Did you spend a night at a sleep center? I spent one night and was diagnosed, then one more night to determine the pressure I need & try different machines. That is it aside from phone calls asking me how I am doing and an appointment coming up soon where they will read what data in the machine. I am surprised your surgeon requires this AFTER being approved by your insurance and that it takes months for you rather than 2 evenings for me. Do you have any surgeons & hospitals of excellence in your area? If you take your approval to one of them, you could probably have surgery in a few weeks!

I might have screwed up the whole thing!
It sure helps. I didn't "flunk" those questions, so I am a little more optimistic now. Thanks.

I might have screwed up the whole thing!
Today was my appointment to see the psychologist regarding VSG and I should have canceled. My morning was horrible (9 year old with Oppositional Defiant Disorder & ADHD) and I couldn't shake it off. I was still frazzled, frustrated, sad....you name it, by the time I got there. Sure enough, as soon as the subject came up about family, I freaking cried! Aaaaaah! I feel like such an idiot! I also couldn't focus on some stupid numbers he was reciting that I had to remember. (I have a bad memory as well). English is not my first language, even though I have very little accent, so I couldn't express myself as well I wanted to. I was a complete mess. Now I am hoping he saw the whole picture. I have a very good support system, my family supports the surgery, I am knowledgeable about VSG, I have friends, interests and a whole lot of other stuff he asked about. The secretary said he sends his reports to my surgeon the same day. I now fear going through this whole process and then being denied. Do surgeons call right away when reports are negative? I feel like sending an email to the insurance coordinator, but that will make me look worse. I am so sad about this whole thing. Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Gain 10 lbs to be at 40 BMI????? - Insurance Concern
Aetna would. When I called them before even picking a surgeon, the representative directed me to their website and I read their requirements specific to my policy. In my case I have to prove I have been over a BMI of 35 (sleep apnea) during the last 2 years. Once I picked a surgeon, their coordinator double checked all this info for me. Sorry for the double posting

Gall Bladder Surgery 9/20/11
I haven't had VSG surgery yet, but I have had open hysterectomy, breast reduction & gall bladder. Gall bladder is the least painful by far. It is still surgery of course, but it wasn't a tough one for me. I am able to eat everything. Best wishes!

2 months until surgery~!!

Holiday Surgery
Weird or bizarre it may be but I have the EXACT same dilemma. I have never had surgery on a Friday fearing staffing issues over the weekend, imagine my fears over the holidays when everyone seems to go on vacation! The foods and smells worry me too, of course. I am looking forward to other peoples responses. PS. I am having food funerals though. One ethnic or gourmet meal a week in a nice restaurant. My family ordered the same old delivery pizza yesterday and I passed. It wasn't even hard. I wish I would have been this discriminating my whole life.

I found it !!!
That is possible???? I can't imagine loving any exercise. Good for you. I hope I can someday say the same.
