  1. My nutritionist told me that any bread should be toasted. Of course I know that I will always be watching my carbs so bread will not be a large part of my diet. I am simply thinking of times when I am away from home and choices may be more limited. Anywhoo, those who are well past the three month mark I would love to hear how you handle bread.
  2. I was 248 at my highest, lost 10+ pounds on pre-op diet. Day of surgery (12-29-10) weighed 232.5. Happy to report that this morning I weighed 199.5 woooohoooo!
  3. I need some help and certainly others can relate. Currently am 5 weeks out and have not been out to eat at a restaraunt since surgery. My family would love to go out occassionaly but I am so unsure of what I can have and/or what restaraunts might be a better choice than others. So we have been eating only at home which is fine but a night out would be really nice as Mommy is doing all the cooking. It would be great if we could start a thread with a list of restaraunts and specifics about what others order at those places. Thanks for any help in advance.
  4. Love love love Hungry Girl! FYI she has her own show on Cooking Channel/Food Network. I personally am loving watching it and I own one of her cookbooks. Thanks for all the suggestions
  5. I will be celebrating my birthday in just shy of 2 weeks. At that time I will be 5 weeks post-op and am wondering what I can have instead of cake and ice cream. Any ideas as my family loves to Celebrate so they will want to do something I am sure of it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance

    cream??

I had a horrible time with itching when my "bandages" came off. The best product that I tried was definitely, Cortaid Cream, it has hydrocortisone in it and lasts for 12 hours.

    Houston Texas Vertical Sleeves.

I am in the Katy area as well. Was sleeved on December 29th by Dr. Ricardo Bonnor and would love to be a part of a support group
  8. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with using Fiber supplements since surgery. I have used them pre-op but wondered what people do after surgery. I am currently still on the liquid phase of my post-op diet so I am not too concerned now. BUT the next phase of my diet plan does not offer a whole lot in the area of fiber either. So if anyone has dealt with this any advice would be most appreciated.

    Pre Op Cold!!???

I had the same issue the day before my surgery. I went to see my primary care doctor the morning before surgery. He advised me to take my allergy meds round the clock til surgery and gave me a decongestant nose spray. I followed orders and went into surgery with a bit of a sore throat but all was well. I am five days out and still have the sore throat which is likely due to sinus drainage caused by my allergies. So my advice would be if you have time see your doctor before leaving as I know that it put my mind at ease to know that I was given the all clear.
  10. I am totally freaking out at the moment. This morning I woke up with a sore throat and a little sinus headache. No other symptoms and no fever! My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and I am desperate to go thru with this. Anyone have any experience with such a problem just prior to surgery. I could really use some advice on this.
  11. I am home from visiting with my family doctor. He said that I have allergy issues going. No sign of infection just drainage and an irritated throat because of it. Doc says there is no reason I may not have surgery tomorrow! Life is good!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. So undecided right now about this. My surgeon's office just called and offered me a surgery date of Dec. 22nd and I am just so not sure I want to do this so close to Christmas day. Mostly because I have two small children at home and one of them is a four year old who is beyond excited about Christmas. Anyone have experience with recovery, or hospital stay?
  13. Since posting this I made the decision to wait for surgery til after Christmas. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 29th. Yes, having met my deductible for the year was partly why I was pushing for a December date.
  14. So I went yesterday for my pre-op with the surgeon. Was really uneventful just a quick chat with him about how he will be changing me physically but he can not change my brain. It hit me hard when he said that but I am certain that I am ready for this big change and my little brain will be fine when it sees how great I will look and feel. December 29th I will be sleeved and I am incredibly excited. The only bummer part is I will be following a high protein/low carb/low fat diet for Christmas Day. No worries as I am up for the challenge. I passed one test yesterday when all my students had pizza for their Christmas Party and I passed on it. It looked and smelled so good. I am willing to make the sacrifices knowing that my weight will never be an issue again!!!!!!!!
  15. I am so doing a happy dance today. Called my insurance company this morning and I am APPROVED! When I asked how long it would take to get this info to my surgeon they said it was almost immediate. Well, not trusting insurance I called my surgeon's office and let them know what I knew. The insurance coordinator said she had not received word but thanks for calling and would I like to come today for my pre-op appointment. As much as I wanted to go today, my kids are home with me and I would have to arrange a sitter so set the appt for tomorrow. I can hardly believe that once all the paperwork was turned in it only took 48 hours to get approval done. So incredibly excited that on December 27th I will be getting my sleeve. WOOOHOOO!

    OMG I"M APPROVED!!!!

Yeah for you! I just found out this morning that my insurance approved my sleeve as well. Looks like I will have surgery on December 27th! Woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with United Healthcare. I completed all the appointments they required last week and now am in wait mode. Anyone who has had experience with them would be great to hear from you. I am open to hearing the positive along with the negative as I am hoping the wait is a short one.

    Should I start it already???

I am right here with you! My paperwork has been submitted and I am in waiting mode. Our insurance will change in January as well which means more money out of pocket for us as well. What I have done in anticipation is I am following a pre-op diet that the nutritionist gave me which is basically a very carb restrictive, low fat, high Protein diet. Not too difficult to follow at this point and of course there have been a few cheats over the weekend as we were at a wedding. Otherwise I am just sticking to it about 99% of the time, as well I have given up any sort of caffeine and sugar when it comes to drinks. Also cut out any sweet treats in the food department. Hang tough as we are just about there.
  20. I can hardly believe this is happening right now! Just yesterday I finished the last of my insurance requirements for surgery. Which included six months of medical supervised diet program, psych eval, EGD, visits with a nutritionist and all the paperwork stuff too. So why last night did my husband start a chat with "are you certain you want to do this". WHAT? now after all this you are going to question me, after having being supportive of the whole process. He says that he has not yet seen me stick with a diet/exercise program and wonders what I will do when I tire of the restrictions that come with this surgery. To which I replied " I won't have a choice but to stick with it as I will be physically unable to go back on my decision. The conversation went on and nothing good came out of it as I found myself getting really angry with him. Not sure what to do as I am determined that this surgery is my last resort to finally loose the weight for good but without his support I will be totally lost emotionally. Thanks in advance for anyone who got this far thru my rambling.
  21. First I have to ask where you are from as I am picking up so words that my Scottish husband uses. Second I am with all the others on here. They will eventually come around once they see the happy results. I honestly believe men have a horrible time expressing their true feelings so often it comes out totally wrong for them. So I say keep going ahead with your plans for surgery. My plan is to continue showing my spouse how confident I am that I have made this decision. I will continue to keep him well informed as to the details and any information I find that supports my choice. My hope is that he will see that I have educated myself enough to know this is the right choice for me. My hubby knows in his heart that once my mind is made up there is really no changing it, Knowing that I am sure that his negativity will soon turn to support. Besides what man doesn't want a hot trophy wife
  22. Thanks so much for all the support and kind words. Yesterday was a bit better as I let the anger go. Also I know in my mind and heart that I am moving forward with this no matter what other people think of it. That includes my hubby, I know he loves me no matter what and that fear is likely playing a big role in this attitude change. Sometimes I just find any advice from him hard to take as he is 5'6" and weighs a whole 130. To give you a visual on what that looks like, I buy him size small shirts and they fit a little big, pants are size 32 waist which are actually a bit big on him but he likes them a little bit loose. When we married he was a size 29 waist and I found it incredibly difficult to find him adult clothing that fit without looking way too big. To top it off his entire family consists of mostly average size and thin people. So he has never dealt with the weight stuff until he met me and my side of the family. Did I Thanks again for all the words of encouragement as I have boarded this train and refuse to get off until I reach my GOAL STATION
  23. I am about to schedule my psychiatric evaluation and am wondering what to expect. Currently I am going thru the 6 month weight loss plan with my primary care and am entering the 4 month (woohoo). Now it is onto meeting with a psychologist for this required eval, then will meet with a nutritionist in a month or two. Anyone who has had this done already I would love to hear what I am walking into with the mental health part.
