  1. im afraid i wont qualify for surgery if i lose too much.
  2. thats GREAT!!!!! i couldnt imagine hitting my goal at 5 months. if you dont mind me asking you guys, how is the extra skin?
  3. wow!! thats just so great! i cant imagine losing that much weight. my brother & family would think im sick (since no one in my family except my mom will know about the surgery). wow! CONGRATS TO YOU!!!!!! im so happy for you! thats just awesome
  4. i called my insurance and of course, they had no answers for me. i swear, calling them is like trying to call the president. so i called the bariatric unit to speak to the nurse practioner & of course, she wont be in until tuesday! lol. so i asked the receptionist the questions hoping she'd have a clue (since i assume she deals with insurances as a receptionist). she claims that they go by the bmi throughout the entire process & she said with my bmi, i am definitely a candidate. i just pray she knows what shes talking about. she also said that my nurse practioner wouldve told me at my appointment if i werent a candidate (which she didnt.. she actually said ima perfect candidate and she knows this surgery is for me!) so im slightly relieved but i think im going to make another appt just to be sure. :/
  5. whoa! you are definitely a lucky one! congrats
  6. WOW!!!!!! thats GREAT! my goodness! congrats!!!!!!! my bmi is 46-50. the reason i put that range is because i believe to be 5'1 and was always considered 5'1 but the bariatric unit i go to say im 5'3. so at 5'3, im 46.6 at 5'1, im 49.7. im 22, 263lbs
  7. hey everyone! i was just curious... if all goes well, i will be getting sleeved in late november/ early december. my brothers wedding is on may 12th, 2012. with diet and exercise, whats the average weight loss with the sleeve? im aware that everyone is different which is why i say average lol. postop'ers, how much weight did you lose (about) your first 5 months?
  8. now im completely scared. im going to call the nurse practioner today.
  9. you are very welcome. its funny because at first the nurse practioner said "theres no pre diet with your insurance. the sooner you get all your tests done, the sooner i can schedule your surgery." my heart kind of stopped. lol. although my DREAM at this point is having the sleeve done & ive done ALL my homework on it... i just got so scared like i wasnt ready. she then said, "wait, dont quote me on that. let me call & check." in like 2minutes, she hangs up and goes, "im so sorry please forgive me... theres a 6month diet." & to be honest, i was relieved! i kinda hoped for a 3month diet but i think even that would be too soon. lol. im almost done with all the testing. i met with the nurse practioner & nutritionist. i got my chest xray & blood work done. i met with my primary dr. i made an appt for a consultation for my upper gi for monday. i have my psych eval scheduled for the following tuesday. im also going to be getting my upper gi the same week as my psych eval. all i need now is my sleep study in which they will call me for (& i do believe that i have sleep apnea). & my nurse practioner requested i see my cardiologist in my 4th month. im to meet with my primary dr every month & i also have to meet with my nutritionist every month for 6months. its weird because i just started the process this past tuesday & its only thursday & im almost done completing everything.
  10. this may sound corny but i always look fwd to reading your responses! i feel like you always know the right things to say! haha
  11. i would think that pretty much will sum it all up.. lol. i plan on speaking about all my health issues & how i dont want them to get worse. i also want to speak about my family history and what im trying to avoid. i guess a good tip would be not to dwell so much on appearance and more of the needs rather than wants. i mean, when we go to the bank & say we need a loan, we dont say because we want to be billionaires although we all do lol.. we say we need it for this or that. & i guess dwell on how it will improve your everyday life & future & how it will effect your family (in a positive way). lol. if that doesnt get us approved, i have no idea what will.
  12. well i know after doing a lot of research that we might want to leave the stress eating out. thats something that surgery cant fix. from what i read, they ask u a billion of the same questions in a million different ways. lol. i know before i speak, im going to ask myself the question again. i know ill be so nervous. i guess their main focus is to make sure you are doing it for all the right reasons & that you are aware of what it is youre going to be going thru. lol. i think im terrified of being "judged" & not being approved because of something so minor. lol. im waiting for my psychiatrist to call me back for an appt but she hasnt. i may try calling her again & if no answer, im going to start searching for a new one. i want to get everything over & done with.
  13. haha! i thought the same! i was just like, what if they dig up some hidden feelings? lol. goodness gracious! that day, i need to be sure i eat well & feel relaxed because if im agitated, i might uncover some things i managed to forget! >_< may the lord be with us :x
  14. i pray i dont neeed a bmi of 50. ima pre diabetic. i have hypothyroid fatty liver hormonal inbalance pcos had my gall bladder removed horrible back pain & i believe i have sleep apnea (which i have a sleep study to complete) i did my chest xray i met with my primary dr i got my bloodwork done this morning i made my consultation appt for my upper gi. my nurse practioner wants me to wait 4 months to meet with my cardiologist. all i need now is my psych eval (in which im waiting for the phone call from her to set up an appt) and hopefully i should be getting my upper gi done in 2 weeks. i want to do everything now & get everything out of the way so i can just focus on whats ahead. im so excited!
  15. you know, ive been reading from a few ppl that your bmi has to be 50 but she never mentioned my bmi and where it has to be and if they start by your first consultation or what. thats a good question to ask. my bmi is 46.6 (i thought it was 49.2 because i was always told that im 5'1 but they are saying 5'3). :/ a good question is, if they start with the bmi in your initial consultation, then gaining the weight wouldnt even do me justice since i started at 46.6. i need to definitely find this out. i have health issues so i pray thats not the case. id hate to have to purposely gain weight.. :/

  17. its really confusing. :/ my primary dr told me not to lose weight but then why would the nutritionist put me on a diet? lol. im scared to really come straight out & ask my nutritionist if i should "try" to lose weight because of course, shes going to say yes! but will it help me get approved is what i want to know. she seemed SUPER nice until i went into her office for my appointment. she had an attitude & was doing a whole lot of eye rolling. it took everything in me not to ask her "what the hell is your problem?!" she was more "talking at me" rather than "with me". i wish there was a 2nd nut. in that office i could go to. so i think i want little conversation with her as possible. also, my issue isnt losing weight. i drop weight quickly which is what im afraid of. the only thing is, i put the weight on twice as fast & i end up putting even more weight on. so now im confused... should i lose weight for 6 months? or drop here & there? my bmi is 46.6 (since they claim im 5'3 & not 5'1). i thought my bmi was 49.2 before.
  18. thats GREAT! congrats to you and good luck on monday! keep us all posted!
  19. well i eat the samething every single day lol. very weird, i know. im the routine kinda person
  20. well im glad i know this because i thought i wouldnt be approved if i didnt lose any weight. lol. ive always been told that im 5'1 & now theyre saying 5'3 so my bmi is 46.6. i def dont want to go below 40.
  21. ohh ok! thank you for responding!
  22. makes much sense! my nutritionist wanted me to cut out soda & i think after cutting soda & juices out & adding Water & exercises but not cutting food, i think ill be down about 5lbs a month. at the end of 6 months, thats 30lbs. do you feel thats reasonable? or is even that too much?
  23. i visited with my primary dr today & i was advised by him not to lose any weight because my insurance will not approve me if i do. now im confused.. lol. do i try & lose the weight or do i just keep eating as ive been eating but just take in smaller portions so that if i do lose weight, itll be very minimal?
  24. my nutritionist is putting me on a 6month diet before approving me for the sleeve. my question is, how much weight did you guys lose & in how many months? she didnt give me a goal weight to lose.
  25. so im jaz. i met with a nurse practioner and nutrtionist today. the FIRST thing my nurse practioner said was, "well a good thing is, your insurance JUST started covering vsg!" i LITERALLY bursted into tears. it was my biggest fear that my insurance wouldnt cover the sleeve. it caught her off guard and i was almost embarrassed until she seemed like she was going to cry with me. so after talking, she agreed that the sleeve is the best option for me. she also said i meet the qualifications. so now, the 6month process begins for me. i have to meet with the nutrtionist 5 more times since i need to be on a supervised diet. i need to meet with a: •cardiologist for my heart for those of you that dont know. •gastroenterologist for an upper gi in which they put you to sleep and stick a tube down your throat to look at your tummy. •psychiatrist. i have to get a psych eval. now some people say you have to pay for this out of pocket but not necessarily! find a psychologist or psychiatrist that accepts your insurance. i needed a chest xray which i did today. i need blood work which im doing tomorrow & i need a sleep study in which they will be calling me for. i do not need an ultra sound for my gall bladder because i had it removed already & i do not need a pulmonary clearance (which i dont know what it is lol) i just wanted to share my exciting news with everyone! so far, ive completed 4 steps
