  1. I met with the Surgeon, PA, Nutritionist, and surgical coordinator. I am self pay so they sent me downstairs ( hospital) for my labs, EKG, etc. I was called the next day with my education class date and surgery date. It was very quick, but I had gone through a very drawn out process with another surgeon and same insurance company 5 years ago only to find my policy didn't, and still doesn't, cover WLS no matter WHAT the health issues are! My only regret is that I didn't go ahead and pay to have this done 5 years ago!
  2. I know this is hard but very necessary. I did liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery and almost two weeks post op. Remember this is something you will need to do each time you get a fill. hang in there Nd do the best you can do!!!!!!! Nobody's perfect!!
  3. Welcome! We're happy to have you!!!!!
  4. I'm 13 days out. All the incisions are practically invisible except the port which is still healing. I was cleared for swimming at one week so the dermabond is all gone!
  5. Thank you! I'm just getting started here and I'm afraid I'm getting a little panicky just thinking about it.
  6. Okay, I'm confused. Does getting stuck happen immediately when you swallow something you shouldn't ...and/or can it happen say 15 or 20 minutes after you've swallowed and something maybe expands, like bread, and can't get through??? Just wondering.
  7. I LOVE the Designer Whey because it only has 2g of carb and it tastes great. I also mix it with flavored instant coffee and ice . Yum!
  8. Wow!!Wow! I am so impressed with the successes of you all who have multiple children to take care of while on this journey!! Really, really IMPRESSIVE!!!!!
  9. I notice it when I wake up in the morning. Yuck!!!! I haven't noticed during the day but I drink TONS of water everyday; maybe that's why??
  10. 6 weeks for me.....
  11. I was banded 12 days ago and I know what you mean. I've been playing mind games with myself! lol I sit down and slurp my soup really really slowly and I convince myself that I truly am filling up. The shakes actually do a better job of keeping the hunger pains away for longer. I did just start soft proteins; cottage cheese and canned chicken and tuna so it's a little better. As someone before said, drink lots of water. I'm able to gulp about 8 ozs in one gulp and it does fill me up for a bit. Otherwise I just try to keep busy, knowing from others on the forum that it will get better. Hang in there!!!!!
  12. CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU'RE AWESOME!! CAN'T WAIT MYSELF!!
  13. I was banded on June 27th. I was on a two week clear liquid with protein shakes as well. I've been using my bullet to make a blended coffee type drink that I love for a change. I use 1 scoop Designer Whey French Vanilla, 1 c skim milk,1/2 an individual package of Starbucks instant Caramel coffee, and ice.Whip it up and yum. Someone on the forum gave me the idea and I've done several variations. Also go to theworldaccordingtoeggface. It's a blogger who has great ideas for protein shakes, protein ice cream, and other great stuff!!
  14. The only time I feel my port site is when I lay down at night on that side, otherwise it's been fine. I'm 10 days out. I know I've read about a lot of people having actual pain at their port site so it's probably normal.
  15. I love my surgeon and have followed his "rules" no matter what!! I did a clear liquid diet with protein shakes for two weeks prior to surgery with the day before being just jello and broth. I did clear liquids for 3 days post and full liquids the next week. His full liquid food list does not include the cream of wheat, oatmeal, or some other items people have spoken about. When I went to my first post op appointment this week he put me on "soft proteins". This includes tuna, flaky fish, cottage cheese, tofu, and canned chicken. That's it; of course this is added to the liquid items. My question is- why do you think he is waiting 4 weeks to add veggies, fruit and grains? After that phase I'll go to complete solids. My guess is that he's trying to get me used to eating PROTEIN!!! I left his office before I really looked at my list carefully. I was just so excited to get Tilapia!!
  16. Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful comments!! This forum has helped me more than you can imagine!
  17. Thanks for the advice. Yes I live in Texas and my entire extended family lives in Michigan. I try to get home at least once or twice a year to see everyone who I love soooo much! I have been sitting at the dining table with hubby and son, when he's home. It's kind of been a fun topic of discussion with my "boys"!! LOL
  18. I love the Dannon Greek Vanilla. 0 fat, 12g protein!!
  19. I only told my best friend and family members. All my family lives out of state. My best friend works with me and I wanted her to know! I think my decision was right for me. I've felt judged my whole life by what I put in my mouth NO MORE!
  20. Hello Everyone! I'll be leaving for vacation in another 10 days for a glorious time in a Beach House on Lake Michigan with my husband, my sister, her husband, my nephew, his wife, and their two adorable children. They all know about my surgery and are very supportive. This is my question: I will be about 4 weeks post op and in what my surgeon calls the "soft protein phase", should I dine with the group? I have mixed emotions. Will power is not a problem. I seem to be able to stick with my program no matter what. I am very motivated!!!! I don't want to put a damper on the festivities of eating. I don't want ANYONE to feel guilty about what they are eating. By the way, none of them have a weight problem. I'm fine with eating on my own,and in many ways this might be better for me. My routine thus far has been to eat only when I feel hungry i.e.hunger pains, growling stomach.lol It really works!:lol:Any comments would be greatly appreciated. This forum has been a lifesaver for me so far on my journey.
  21. Oh My Gosh! I felt the exact same way! I've been dieting since I was 8 years old and have failed in one way or another-obviously since I am now 53!!! You WILL be successful with this. I know I will be and have already been successful!
