Pre-Op liquid diet
Mine is scheduled for July 11th. My pre op diet is 5 protein drinks/bars per day and one real meal for two weeks. So it isn't too bad. I start mine next Monday.

Work...Time off... Need to know.
If you don't have to work bartending, then don't...or at least not for a few weeks. I don't think you are allowed to lift anything heavy for awhile. What part of Texas are you in? Who is yoru surgeon?

Work...Time off... Need to know.
I think it depends on what type of work you do also. I have not had my surgery yet. I have mine on a Monday, plan on returning to wrk (limited) on that Thursday. Only because I have a desk job and work from home. If I were driving into work, I might take the whole week off. My surgeon told me 1 1/2 weeks is the usual. I'm sure I will only do half days on that Thurs. and Fri. Then hoping by the next Monday (one week out) working back to normal. I hope I'm not pushing it either. My boss knows what I'm doing and said take all the time I need. But the bad thing is no one does my job so I don't want it to pile up. LOL

Paying it forward: little over 2 months out
Love your post. You have the right mind set. This is a new life style. You can't go back to eating the way you use too, the way that got us all fat to begin with. I changed my eating habits back in March and have pretty much stayed on track. I do find if I have a craving and go with it, I eat more bad things and more and more. So I just can't eat trigger foods. I stay away, far far away. I have found new foods I love and really I don't miss the chips, pizza and chinese foods. So I'm hoping do this before hand, after my surgery it will be easier for me to stick with the plan.

Approved for Surgery July 11
Wow Butterfly, how exciting to have your date moved up. Keep us posted if you can by that weekend, so we know how your doing before the 11th. I've already asked my hubby to update you guys if I'm not able to get on the computer. He is a geek and loves this stuff. LOL Has anyone been able to access the board from their iPhone app? I can't seem to get mine to work.

Now I did it
I like the idea about the medic alert necklace or bracelet.

Now I did it
That is terrible. Good luck and hope everything "comes out ok". It would really suck if they had to do surgery to remove it.

Anyone else getting sleeved around Fourth of July w/e?

How did your kids handle the change(s) in you?
This is a great thread, I was wondering the same thing. I have 3 kids, ages 27, 25 and 7 . I've told my daughter who is 25, but haven't told my oldest son yet. My youngest overheard me talking about the surgery on the phone and asked me about it. I just told him Mommy was going to have surgery on her tummy to help her lose weight. I wasn't really prepared at the moment to answer him. I wish I had said so much to him. He will be gone the month of July to his Dad's so I will only see him on every other weekend. I know it will be a change for him. I was wondering what questions he may ask. I don't want to keep it from him or lie, but not sure how much to really tell him.

Greek Yogurt Protein question
I see all this talk about Protein poweders and I know right after surgery you really can't eat thick foods, but later on, why can't you eat greek yogurt to get most of your protein. I love Fage 0% total greek yogurt. 1 cup has 23 gms of protein. Just wondering. I hate powdered drinks. But going out tomorrow to GNC to get a few samples of some to try them out before my surgery. Thanks for any info.

The Magic Bullet is Awesome
Do you have to drink the Optifast? Can you try something different that might be more filling? I plan on drinking Special K Protein drinks and bars. Not sure what I will use after surgery, becasue I know I will need more protein then.

Questions you wish you had asked?
What size bougie do you use? How long will I be off from work? How many patients have you sleeved? How many have had leaks? How many have died?

The Magic Bullet is Awesome
Hahaha sex toy. I've been thinking about getting the Magic bullet (blender). Do you like it much better than a normal blender? Also, I can understand how you feel about the liquid diet. Luckily my 2 week pre op diet is only two meals of Protein drinks or bars. Then I get to eat one meal a day. (low fat, low carb meal). but I'm not to worried about it. I think the one thing that has helped me is being on Weight watchers since March. I've totally changed the way I eat. Making better food choices and finding other things low cal./low fat that satisfy my hunger. If I'm really wanting something to eat or something sweet, I turn to greek yogurt with honey. My fav. I don't feel so deprived from eating what use to be 'normal" food for me, like pizza, hamburgers, chinese and so on. Sure i might have that once or twice a month, but I may go 2 weeks not eating any fast food or junk. But when I do eat it, its only one meal and much smaller than I use to eat. I think learning how to eat again is the hardest part. It's a mind game. One game I don't want to lose. Good luck with your pre op diet. Hope it gets easier for you.

Keeping reasons for surgery from supervisor/co-workers
I'm glad you started this thread. I'm not in the same situation as you, but for some reason I'm having a problem with, "do I tell my co workers or not". I've been here for 13 years, a large physicains office/group. I've told my boss/friend and two other supervisors that I'm close too. And they know I haven't told anyone else. I'm pretty much an open book so not sure why I'm having this feeling of should I or shouldn't I. I've known these ladies for years. I don't think anyone would be negative at all. So that is why its strange to me. Anyone else feel like this? I'm sure I will break down and tell them, but will it be before the surgery or after? LOL I just want to understand why I'm feeling this way. Does that makes sense?

LOL you are so funny. I wish my DH would join me in this. He is about 295 lbs and diabetic. He doesn't have alot to lose, he is 6'4". But maybe after he see's how I do, he will think more about it. Just be a good patient for your wife. LOL
