  1. I need suggestions on some good Protein shakes. My surgeon carries some protein shakes in his office that are good but expensive. I am open to some suggestions to Protein Shakes that are flavorful. Thanks
  2. Thank you for the replies! This weekend when i grocery shopping, I will find some of these products and give them a try

    Salad Days?

I was banded on June 30th and I had a fill last friday. Yesterday was my first day having a small salad with lemon pepper fish. In my salad I had lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots (I made sure to chew the carrots very well). I had no problems at all except my bowels were loose later on in the day. I'm assuming it was that way because it was my first time since my surgery having veggies again.
  4. It will be a month since i had surgery and I have only lost 15 pounds. However, I have loss inches and so far dropped one pant and shirt size. I'm thrilled because prior to this surgery I would not have lost this much weight and clothing size like this. Keep up the great work!

    Weighing Yourself

I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm on mushies right now and I was gained 3 lbs I was really upset about this because I have been careful to stay in the calorie range set by my doctor. I'm hoping this gain is from coming off of liquids to mushies. I decided to only weigh myself once a week instead of every morning.

when will I feel myself again?

I felt completely better on day 10. It was kind of weird, the day before my right side was really sore and when I woke up the next morning, I didn't feel any soreness or tightness at all. You have made a good decision, it will it get better!
  7. Good Luck on your Post-Op diet, Keep your eyes on the prize!
  8. So far, I haven't experience what you are going through. But, I know when I return back to work from summer break, I know all eyes will be on the food I'm eating. As much as I would like to tell those individuals off, I plan on telling them I'm allowed to eat the same food as everyone else and I have a great medical team that suggest great food choices and all I need from my friends and family is to be a great support system but not monitors of what I eat. I'm not sure if that statement would work for you because I can be a very blunt person. But you overall want your family to know exactly how you feel when they make those statements when you eat and let them know how you want them to be supportive to you while you are on this weight loss journey.
  9. I was banded the same day as you. When I came home I was given some meds for nausea. I'm not sure if you were given any, but I would take some. You have to remember our stomach is readjusting to have some actual food in our stomach after being on shakes and Soups. But if it continues, I would call the doctor's office just to make sure you can move on to the mushies. I had to move on to the mushies stage because I was getting hungry again and the Soup and shakes just wasn't hitting the spot. So far, I haven't felt the way you feel. Yesterday, I even had ground turkey and salmon yesterday and felt very full and satisfied.
  10. I'm 7 days post-op and feeling much better than a week ago. On one side of my stomach, I'm guess where the port is, it kind of raised and when I move around it's sore. Is this normal? On the other side of my stomach I'm not experiencing this at all.
  11. You can do it! I was on a liquid diet the same amount of time as you. It was hard because it was straight shakes and soups. I did cheated the first two days by having two chicken nuggets but after that I drew up the will power once I thought thinking the money I would be out if my surgeon could not do the surgery because I cheated. I lucked out because everything turned out fine. I found never let yourself get too hungry! drink your shakes and whatever else you're allowed. Stay busy/

    Ground Beef

I am Post-op 9 days and I can have ground beef (they prefer ground turkey) at the mushy stage. So around three weeks after surgery.
  13. Just got home from Post-op and I have lost a total of 14 pounds! Yeah for me!

  14. It did not take long for my insurance company to approve my surgery. My last nutrition visit was on June 1st. My paperwork was sent to the insurance company the next day. I was approved by that Tuesday. However, I initially wanted the sleeve and changed my mind after the paperwork was submitted, so it took the insurance company an additional day or two once they received the new codes from my surgeon's office. I was banded on June 30th. I wanted the surgery sooner but my surgeon does surgery during the summer every other Thursday at the hospital my insurance approved. During my nutrition visit, I did blood work so they could check my vitamin and mineral levels. I was advised to begin taking a multi, calcium, iron, vitamin D, B-12, and omega 3. Once my surgeon's office received the approval from the insurance company, I went in for a pre-op visit I was given a Lap Band packet to read, discussed if I was ready for the procedure, what to expect afterwards, and suggestions on what to have on hand when I go home and my pre-op diet for 5 days. Also, I had to pay for deductible to the surgeon for the lap band. I had to go the hospital to register, do my chest x-ray, and EKG. I had the option to pay then or up to the day of my procedure. I decided to pay and have peace of mind that everyone received their money. I started my Pre-op diet on a Sat and had surgery that Thursday My suggestion to anyone is know exactly what the criteria is needed for your insurance company. Work closely with you case manager at your surgeon's office to make sure she receives all test results from other Dr.'s you are working with for approval and exact date you can expect for them to submit to the insurance company. And once the paperwork has been submitted to the insurance company I called everyday to check on the status. As a matter of fact, I called the insurance co and they were waiting for the nurse to sign off on my paperwork, the customer service rep put me on hold and she contacted that dept and asked if she could review my record because they were waiting on her signature, and she signed off. Customer Service was able to get my approval letter on the phone and fax it to me and my surgeon's office. Overall, it was an easy ride Good Luck!

    sick!!

I was banded on the 30th and I have not vomited. However, I would get nauseous. I made sure to take the nausea meds with the pain meds and lay down. I noticed if I walked within 30 mins taking the pain meds I would feel sick. I keep some sonic ice chips in a cup nearby. I would suggest you call the dr office because you don't want to risk a slip. I hope you feel better
  18. I was banded on the 30th. I was in lots of pain the first day and pretty sore the next and today. I've been dealing with lots of gas. For me I totally underestimated the pain. But as the day goes on, it gets a lot easier. Good Luck.
  19. I will be banded two days from now. I know after my surgery I can only take chewable vitamins. I need some suggestions to what chewable vitamins to buy. The vitamins I am on now are not chewable, so I will not be able to take them after the surgery. Also, do you guys take your calcium and multi-vitamins three times a day. I was told that your body only absorbs 500 (g/mg I can't remember) at a time.
  20. Good Morning to all... I'm getting ready to leave for the hospital for my surgery. I want to Thank everyone here on this website for all of the informative and great support you all provide. You guys have provided a great wealth of information from a bandsters point of view. I couldn't do it without you guys! I will report on the outcome of my surgery if I feel up to it today! Say a prayer for me

    OMW to change

Good Luck and don't be nervous. I'm getting ready to go to the hospital for my surgery this morning.
  22. Good Luck at the BBQ this weekend. Yesterday we had a potluck and birthday cake for my nephew. I did not show up till after everyone ate and I had a bowl of soup before I left the house. Luckily, my nephew had carrot cake and I hate it so it did not phase me at all. LOL, I tried to justify the chicken nuggets by telling myself it's protein too. I don't understand why their are so many Pre-op diets out there and the length of time people are on them. I wish I could do two shakes and a salad and a piece of chicken.
  23. I'm on my second day of a five day liquid diet. It is SOOOOOOOO hard, I must admit I did cheat and have some chicken nuggets for lunch. So far i have noticed that I'm urinating ALOT and I had one BM yesterday and it was liquid. My energy level is kinda of low. I am determined to stay on track for the next three days. My surgery is on Thursday

    Hair Etiquette: PG-13

My surgery is the same day! I always keep mine shaved. However, I think its a personally choice. I was told they will not be down in that area. I forgot to ask but I read somewhere that you can not shower for two days so I think for hygiene wise it's a great idea to trim her a little. Just my opinion! Good Luck and let me know how you're surgery is!
