Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
By the way, folks....I am SOOOOOOOO sore from working with the trainer that I can barely brush my teeth!! The worst part about it is that I can't take Advil--my wonder drug!! I'm about to go buy a bunch o' infant drops if I have to!! I am miserable! Tear that box open right there in the drug store and gulp it all down! Can you just see that?! Bad news...I have another appt. in an hour. :faint:

JENN!!! You're NOT doing anything wrong!! You've already answered your own question! 2# of water weight is all it is! My weight fluctuates 2-3# a day!! Remember a while back I posted my weight chart? Remember what it looked like? Looks like a childs drawing of the Himalayas! I absolutely guarantee you that if you drink your water it will be gone by tomorrow or the next day and you may even see a new number! Especially with warmer weathr coming on, you need to get used to seeing your weight fluctuate this way. There is no need to add this kind of stress to your life by worrying about a measley 2#....learn to roll with it. What a bummer about the HOme Depot thing. Didn't they know your situation going in? Jeez. Retail!! My son works at a grocery store and I swear they would work him to death if they could. Hello?? He's a student!! I'm about to go down there myself and kick some a**. Sorry, Jenn. I know you're trying so hard to keep it all together. Keep breathing and think positive. OK Violets! Let's all really keep Jenn in our thoughts today and send her to the perfect job. Please take a minute to pray, meditate or visualize (or whatever you do) that this situation is resolved for her greatest good.

Laura - I think the exercise she's talking about is like a cat arching its back.... Arch your back, drop your head down, round your shoulders and hold your tummy in real tight while you inhale. Hold it for about 5 seconds then relax and straighten your back. Repeat this about 10 times. It IS also a yoga exercise, BTW. I see there's 6 members on the thread now....anyone wanna go chat?

That's the first thing that popped into my head, too, Laura. Sorry, Michelle hate to rain on your parade!! I wonder if you shifted the band around by doing that??? Probaby not, but that would concern me. Laura - you crack me up!! "Ok, I lied...I have more stuff to ramble about..." LOL You said you dont' know why you're nauseous...but did you wait a 1/2 - 1 hour before drinking those glasses of tea at lunch, right on top of your food??

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Well, of course everyone is different! But I was filled a week ago (1.5cc) and have not had any problems with eating or drinking at all. I drink all day long....big ol' gulps! My DD doesn't like anything that's mixed together...especially if she can't identify the ingredients!! (and she's southern as they come!) My DS eats one thing at a time, until it's gone, then on to the next thing. My DH eats like it's a contest to see who can finish first. I, myself, am perfectly normal!

Snacks or No Snacks?
I've always had blood sugar issues and do better with 5-6 small meals a day (or 3 meals + 2 snacks) plus most trainers will tell you it keeps the metabolism rev'd up. I have noticed that a lot of post-op diets indicate "NO SNACKING", but I don't understand why. What about you? Do you snack or not? I'd like to make the distinction between snacking for nourishment vs. "grazing" or "head hunger", if you know what I mean. Thanks for participating.

Pamela, Thanks for the vote of confidence! Things are going real well with my fill that I had a week ago. Not too tight, not too loose, can eat without problems and losing a bit of weight...well, we'll continue to see about that last part....but I have no complaints so far. My calories are at about 1000/day. Right on target. Oh, and my meals are holding me for 3-4 hours, just like they're supposed to!

Depression after surgery?!
Actually, it's NOT "harder to eat but only just a little". I thought the same thing too, but actually it's a RELIEF to be able to feel so satisfied with about 1/3 of the food you used to eat at a normal meal!! I think it's pretty darn cool! :biggrin1: "Shrinking Violets" is the group of bandsters that were banded in the month of April...it's just our name. Your welcome to come visit our thread...it's always hopping!

Lots of encouraging things going on!! Way to go girls!!!!!! I also got into a fave pair of jeans I haven't worn in 2 years. We are all obviously making progress....bandster hell or NO bandster hell!! AWESOME!! Keeping track of your calories is really essential, i believe. It helps to keep you accountable and in control. Whenever I've stopped keeping track you can bet money that is the time I started gaining. So good for all of you who are doing so! www.fitday.com and www.dailyplate.com are both excellent. I like fitday's nutrition reporting for keeping track of all aspects of nutrition, but I like dailyplate's wide variety of brand-name listings. KITY - yes, the trainer is fairly expensive....$40/30-min session. So right now I'm paying $180/month for gym & training. BUT, it will be vital in keeping me motivated and accountable. These are my two biggest issues with staying on track. Keep in mind that I'm also self-pay for surgery which is an incredible investment as well....so I'm just trying to walk the walk...y'know? All new patterns. This is a new life and I have new priorities and I MEAN IT THIS TIME DAMMIT!!!! My goals from the beginning have been to be FIT and TRIM and for once in my life I AM GOING TO REACH THIS GOAL. NO IF'S AND'S OR BUT'S. JUST WATCH ME! I am woman, hear me ROAR!!

Change?
I think this is an excellent idea and brings up a very good point. I don't care of people go at it all day long in RNR, but I would love to have a way to 'hide' the threads from newbies who come here for support and information about the lap band.

Michelle - How old are your kids? Man, you have had a TOUGH week! PS - I'm really proud of all of you who can share your personal stories....they're not always easy to share. You help all of us when you help yourselves in that way because we can all relate. Brings up stuff for us we had forgotten long, long ago. Thank you.

Laura, FYI, I was on those for quite a while...twice in my life actually. You will find that you build up a tolerance to them within a couple of months. After a while (for me, anyway) they seemed like they started having the opposite effect. So take advantage while you can, because it won't last forever. BTW, the second time I took them, many years later, they didn't work at all. So it's like a permanent tolerance that you build up, one that is not helped by 'drying out' for awhile.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Thanks Sara! :scales: The thingy they used for me to test my BMI calculated that I had 41% body fat! The math calculation method says I'm like at 33%...so that's a big chunk of fat to lose!...and a lot of muscle to gain! I've got my work cut out for me. Interestingly, he said it would probably take about a year to gain 10# of muscle...but at the end of that time those 10# of muscle will burn 500 extra calories per day AT REST! I can't believe you did all that exercise yesterday! You're a maniac!! Laura - When I was your age I used to worry about 'how I looked' at the gym...but not so much anymore! LOL I just want what I want and the others can jump in the lake. Besides, at least 1/2 of the people working out are obese+, so I fit right in. AND, at least I'm doing something and not sitting on the couch eating bon-bons. Have you ever heard this quote? "We probably wouldn't worry about what people think of us if we could know how seldom they do." (Olin Miller) Jenn - Congratulations on another 2#!! People seem to be coming off their stalls now, eh? Way to go!! Doesn't seem like you're eating very much, though....are you getting enough? Teach!!! - 11 INCHES??!?!? MAN! That's awesome! I'm tellin' ya....you need to be our mascot!! Would you be willing to dye your hair violet??

lifting
I was not allowed to lift anything more than 15# for at least 4 weeks! Some are even more restricted than that! Definitely need to discuss this with your surgeon...maybe there are precautions you can take, wear a support device or something like that. But don't take risks!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Hey all...I just got back from the gym and guess what I did!? I signed a contract for a personal trainer 1x/week for a YEAR!! Girlfriends, I am gonna be one hot honey! We worked my quads tonight and OMG!! I am gonna be in pain tomorrow! Anyway...I did it because I've been talking about how committed I am and IF SO, this is what I need to do...keep moving forward and behaving like a healthy person. I'm doin' this, people!!!

Depression after surgery?!
YES!! I actually was told by my patient advocate that it is common to experience depression 2-3 weeks after surgery. We talked about it on the Violets thread and determined that it probably has to do with fat cells shrinking and releasing estrogen into your system...which can cause PMS symptoms. Sound familiar? It goes away in a week or two....well, it did for me anyway. Hope you feel better real soon!

Retaining Water
Mine goes up and down 2-3 pounds every couple of days. I never know what number will show up! I've always been this way and so I'm used to it.

What are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day?
My mom is kinda hard to buy for. She's shut-in due to bad health, is 79 years old, but sweet as she can be. For the life of me, I can't figure out what to get her! What are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day?

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Thanks, dearie! Well, I think Kat was actually the first, as an honorary Violet. Compared to many of you Violets it's not such a great achievement. But what it does represent for me is seeing a number I haven't seen in about 1-1/2 years. That feels pretty good. Needing to clean out my closet of all the 18W's feels even better. I'm just so proud of all of us (yes, especially you, Michelle!)....no matter what the numbers are.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Hi Sara - I'm doing fine! Went out to dinner with my family last night and ordered a chicken dish...Madiera Chicken...which was delish, but OMG!! When they brought out that plate full of food I almost fainted right there! It was enough for 5 meals at least! 2 chicken breasts pounded thin, lightly breaded, covered in some kind of wonderful cheese and madiera sauce, mushrooms, asparagus and a mound of mashed potatoes!! That plate must have had 2800 calories on it! (Do people really eat this much food?? Did I???) I had 1/2 of one breast and the tips from a few asparagus spears. My hubby helped with some of it and I brought the rest home. Well, I either ate too much, too fast or bites were too big (all of the above?) because I got a little bit of that PAIN in my sternum that said STOP! So, I do believe I am feeling more restriction...actually it's feeling just about right. I also am becoming familiar with the hiccup that tells me to stop, too. That's pretty handy! MAJOR CONGRATS to you on the 2# loss!! I'm so proud of you!!! Judy - You REALLY are a water bug, aren't you!!? Glad to hear you have that first fill scheduled...that'll be here before you know it! I'm in a rut with my bkfst too, but have been for 3 years! Cottage cheese and fruit...same ol' thing every morning usually...but I still love it. Breakfast has always been my favorite meal of the day. Michelle - I hope you woke up feeling better today! YOu've got a great attitude. You're gonna do just fine, I know it. Breathe deep, chin up and BELIEVE!! Kelly - Sounds like you're perfectly normal. We're all going thru those same things. I had my first fill last Friday and it does help. Don't fret at all -- you'll be doing great in a week. Have a wonderful day, lovely Violets!!
