  1. Exactly. I always hated fish but I had to keep searching for one I liked so I could eat that -- so full of Protein and low in fat! So now I'm a tilapia freak. I eat that with a nice salad, with a oil & vinegar dressing...YUM! One think about being banded, it has taught me to appreciate the food I AM putting in my mouth and to savor every bite. Like Helen said, you're just going to have to broaden your horizons....which is probably a good thing!
  2. My heart rate is the measure of my effort....not the size of my muscles, right? And my heart rate is the same on each machine. It's the amount of SWEAT that seems to increase with the cycle! I think losingjusme is right....I think it's the machine that isn't measuring my HR correctly or something! No matter. It's all good as long as I'm sweating and can still talk!
  3. Yeah, in Body for Life they allow one "free day" per week where you can stuff yourself silly if you want to. I tend to agree with that as well and I seem to bump up my calories on the weekend when I'm spending more time out and about. You might give it a try over the next month and see what happens. I've even been known to have a milkshake to get mine up! Woo hoo! Jenn, I only work one muscle group per week! I do legs and abs on Mon., Triceps and Back on Wed., Biceps and chest on Saturday. (Body for Life is the same basic schedule). The other days I'm strictly doing cardio. My trainer did say that you can't over-work the abs so you can do those anytime.
  4. Oh, believe me....I appreciate your thoughts!! It makes sense to me that it's the Omnipaque....I just hope that it isn't the kind of leak that requires a new band!! I would not be happy about that! Thanks for your time!
  5. I don't think it's time to worry, Jenn. If it persists then it's time to worry. Small amounts in the stool are common due to the tearing that Jen is talking about. Ulcers cause the stool to be like "tar" I believe....the blood is older having gone thru the entire GI system.
  6. Well, I had the fill on June 24 so I would think it would have shown up before now. (?) She did have to shoot twice to hit the port. I don't have a leak that I'm aware of, but the 1st saline fill sure did go away. Second one was with omnipaque and it held.
  7. Here ya go... I found it a bit tricky and just blew it off. Obviously many aren't quite as idiotic as I am. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/how-get-ticker-your-signature-16218/
  8. I'm sorry....haven't you heard?? Rice is one of the top 3 no-no's!! I haven't even let it touch my lips because I've heard it so many times....it is one of the impossible foods!! Right up there with bread, Pasta, dry meats and eggs.
  9. I hit this milestone just yesterday and I am so thrilled I can't even put it into words!!!!! I hate fat lady stores!!!!!!!!! I'm 5'6.5", 192# and bought a size 16 in Ralph Lauren NON-stretch jeans. I don't like my clothes tight or loose.... just a good fit. In tops I'm wearing about a size XL or 14. I also got nicely into my old size 14 swimsuits today.
  10. Hang around this wonderful board for awhile. I can't imagine how the support you get from any group could be any better than this place. Besides, it's open 24/7!!! Welcome!
  11. I seem to remember having intermittent pain ...sharp twinges....until about 4 weeks out. The gas takes quite a while to leave your system so it could just be that. Or you may have irritated some sutures doing too much. It's probably alright but just remember to take it easy for another couple of weeks even though you feel you can do more.
  12. I've had to give up a few foods that I loved as well, but the trade-off for me has certainly been worth it. Maybe it is not for you. But jeez....go to any grocery store or look in any cookbook and look at all the foods out there! For me it was just a matter of finding some NEW favorites. As far as your weight loss goes, It seems good to me! 15# in two months (for old ladies like us) isn't so bad at all! You didn't have that much to lose to begin with, so you can't compare yourself fairly to those that have 100+ to lose. Besides, it is what it is...don't fight it. Relax and enjoy the ride. Find new foods that work for you and give this band a chance. It's way to early to be having regrets. That's my $0.02.
  13. Good luck to all of you going thru these nervous times. As WAS said, this is perfectly normal. My DH asked me today if something happened to my band would I have the surgery done over again? I didn't hesitate for a second and said, "Oh, HELL yes!!!" Really, you're gonna love it!!!!!
  14. What kind of HRM do you use? You mean your body bugg or something else? Not sure I want to shell out the dough for a body bugg just yet.
  15. I prolly should have posted this in complications, but this area gets more traffic. Has anyone seen something like this?? I've posted a picture of my port scar....and next to it is a light brown area. I have no idea what this is. It's not a bruise, it doesn't hurt in any way, and it's shown up in the last 48 hours or so....getting darker and a bit larger as time ticks away. The only thing I can think of is that it's the Omnipaque leaking out of the port?? But it shouldn't be leaving that mark....the stuff is eliminated from your system within a few hours. It's freaking me out!! I'll email this to Dr. Spivak tomorrow to see if I can avoid a trip downtown for him to look at it. Maybe he'll recognize it right away. :cry
  16. Ruh roh. That recipe has more than 4 ingredients and the instructions are greater than 2 sentences long. No can do! A cook I am NOT. But, man, do I love fish tacos!!! DH and I went to the gem and jewelry show today....I buy beads and he was looking for a "Vegas ring". Yeah, he has always wanted a diamond & sapphire ring to wear when we go to Vegas....says it will improve his 'mojo' Well, we didn't buy one today but saw lots of pretty diamonds! Then we went to the Talbot's outlet store and they were having a killer sale. I got 2 tops and a pair of shorts  , yes shorts, for $23!! I love a good bargain! Kat, I know exactly what you mean about trying on clothes at Walmart....they ALL fit differently...I usually run out of patience before I find anything to buy. Then we took my mom out to dinner and i had, yes you guessed it....enchiladas. YUM! I brought my mom some of my nicer blouses that I had shrunk out of and she was able to use them which is great because they are those nice no-iron-cotton and I hated to give them to charity. Didn't get to the gym today but did walk around for 3+ hours both today and yesterday. Schexy - Do you like Cafe Express?? I was thinking that would be a good place to go...I love all their healthy food!! It's in Town & country...are you familiar with it? Escalantes, La Madeline, Carabba's, Guadalajara and Denis Seafood are all in that area too. OH....HELP!! I've posted a picture below of my port scar. Look at that very weird brown spot that's formed next to it!! YIKES! What the hell is that?? It's not a bruise, it doesn't hurt in any way....its just this dull brown spot!! I'm going to see if I can email this to my doctor tomorrow. Freaky and it's buggin' me. I'm going to post it in the general area too....see if anyone has any idea what this can be.
  17. I LOVE THESE TWO!! They are just so true. I feel so damn liberated. I can't even put it into words. HH-- it just keeps getting better all the time, doesn't it? Makes you wonder what's in store for the future, eh?
  18. I can see how one could become obsessed with Parkour! I few minutes of watching videos and you are suddenly transfixed! What an amazing workout. I looked it up on Wikipedia and read more about it.... I really like the mental discipline that it encourages. Way cool. Let us know how you do!!
  19. The cardio that I do the most is the Elliptical Cross-Trainer (the one where you work your arms as well as legs) and the stationary cycle. My question has to do with the 'calculator' on each of these machines. If I do 20 mins on the X-trainer I'm sweating pretty good and it says I've burned about 200 calories. Then I move over to the cycle and do another 20 minutes. I sweat my TAIL off on that thing...it's dripping off me like crazy...and the machine says I'm burning about 100 calories. I don't get it. Isn't sweat a measure of how hard you are working? I keep my HR about the same for both but the cycle sure feels like I'm working HARD but burning 1/2 the calories as the elliptical?? Something just doesn't seem right. Any ideas?
  20. Ok, the 24th it is. Since Haydee is off the beltway and you're coming from Katy, I'd say somewhere off of I-10 and the tollway. Haydee, does that sound ok to you? How about Cafe Express or Escalante in Town & Country? The construction traffic is a nightmare around there....so if you can think of a better location I'm all for it. What time are we talking about? I can do anything after 5:45. See?? This is why I missed you so much!! Do you have a fill scheduled? Great minds think alike. Chicken enchiladas was the first thing that popped into my head too. Haydee, I'll bet you can make a mean enchilada! My favorite food! My DD asked me the other day if I only had 2 foods to live on the rest of my life, what would they be? ....I said enchiladas (any kind) and chocolate chip cookies! LOL Then I changed it to broccoli and fish. Figured I'd live longer on those. :tired Man, the rain is coming down in BUCKETS this morning!!! I can only think of about 3-4 days that it hasn't rained in the last 6 weeks. This is getting ridiculous!!!
  21. Oh what a wonderful NSV day today! DH took me shopping for some makeup that I needed and we're walking along and he says, "We need to go get you some new jeans--those are too baggy!" I just bought these one month ago and they were just a wee bit snug. So we head to the REGULAR misses department (WOO FREAKING HOO!!!!!) and bought the 1st pair of jeans I tried on.... Lauren 16's and they fit so beautifully! Oh, and let me add that these are NOT stretch jeans!! So then we go to swimsuits...'cause they're all on sale and I need one for the gym and one for Vegas. 16's were too big so I was trying on 14's! OMG!! A 14!! Well, I told him I had at least one or two size 14's at home so I didn't need to buy one. I'll dig thru that dusty drawer tomorrow and see what I have. Somebody pinch me. Oh, by the way...that spinning class this morning absolutely kicked my butt and I will NOT be going back! I left after about 1/2 hour...my heart rate was WAY too high and my sciatic nerve was acting up (still is). Jeez!!! I coudn't get out of there fast enough. So I went swimming then to the sauna. It was 180 in there today! Whew!!! Felt great. Anyway, I'm now convinced that the scale is not accurately reflecting my progress. And apparently neither is the tape measure. But my clothes are! LIFE IS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! PAMELA - I am SO glad you're back!!! I missed you terribly! Not surprised that you're missing the gym. What did you do for exercise while you were gone? Wait, nevermind.... you had DP with you. 'nuf said. Josie - I can do either of those days. What location is convenient for you? TracyK -- wanna meet up with us? Schexy?? Haydee? Kat - I'll bet you a hundred bucks that if you send them a check for $0.00 they'll deposit it. That's how bright those folks sound! DUH! I think you should do it....with a note, "NOW am I paid in full??"
  22. Well, that's the responsible thing to do! I did it too.
  23. HUH??? Gym Nazi no understand.
  24. Oh!! Wait!! I had to get back on to tell Laura how absolutely beautiful you looked in your wedding dress!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your pictures with us. Ya'll look so happy! I loved the picture of you peeking over someone's shoulder....that was cool. I'm really happy for you, honey and hope you two have a wonderful, blissful life together!!! XOXOXO!!
  25. OMG Ya'll....I just spent some time looking at the pics and posts from the LBT cruise they took in June!! They had such a blast. WE HAVE GOT TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!! And NO, TracyK...I am not hungover! I only had 2. I don't drink much anymore but these were my beading buddies and if I had not had a cocktail or two they would have thought I was seriously ill. Can't decide what to do today. DH is at the golf course (in the rain, of course) and the kids are with their dad. The house is clean. I suppose I could clean out my closet AGAIN. I can' t believe the amount of clothes that are just too big. And I already gave away 5 garbage bags full!!!! I've got at least another 1 or 2. Don't feel like messing with Ebay, but probably ought to put them on consignment. Too lazy. :bored I think I'll make some breakfast, let it digest then go spend a couple of hours at the gym.... weights, swimming, cycling and sauna. That sounds so nice to just have time to do whatever I want there. I'm usually trying to cram my workout into an hour. OH!! I'll go to the spinning class!! I haven't done that yet...and it starts in 45 mins. Gotta go!!
