You should be able to access your insurance policy online to see what your exclusions say. I knew my policy specifically state that it did not cover ANY type of WLS but I submitted for insurance approval anyway, with no luck, so I am a self-payer....but check your policy and see. Here, in Louisiana, the sleeve costs anywhere from $9800 - 14,000 cash.

I have my pre-op consultation with Dr. Borland in New Iberia, La scheduled for next Monday, May 17th. Can anybody give me some advice about what questions to ask during that visit?? The closer I get, the more excited I get, and my mind is going blank.... Thanks in advance!! Karen

I agree about the pics....and the measurements! One thing for sure, when you go back and look at your pics you will say to yourself "i really do look good!" and you will only continue to look better and better.....

All of yall Texas peeps are sure making my belly homesick!! I could spend 3 days having a last meal at all of my favorite places to eat....lucky for me I dont live there anymore, and it will be 6 months before I go back....so no Babe's Chicken or Frescos for me!!

First of all, I thought yall was a word!! LOL (I am a Texas girl too...) Secondly, I do nails in a salon, I talk alot and actually I find that when I am excited about something, it is really hard to NOT tell.....however, I am selective about who I tell. I completely agree about being honest, and if it hadnt been for one of my clients telling me about her experience with RNY I wouldnt have been researching this surgery either. And my sister and my dad both had bypass! Go figure! I have told alot of people, and then there are quite a few that I havent told. One of my clients, for example, has a cousin that was supposed to have RNY and I asked her if she had had it done yet. Her response was surprisingly negative! She commented about how she would NEVER have that done because everybody she knows that has had it done looks to be about 75 years old in the face!! gasp!! Needless to say, she is NOT one of the people that I told. I think I will use Tiffany's line in response to people like that! So, be honest....but be selective about who and when you tell.....follow your gut!

What a great story! I am glad that Angie is doing good. I think if I could convince my family (mainly my husband) about going to Mexico, I would SOOO use Dr. Aceves. Prayers are still going up.... Congrats Angie!! Karen

Yall all rock!! Thanks so much for being the cheering squad for me! I am moving forward no matter what! I have an appt for my EKG, Chest XRay, and full blood work ups to be done on Wednesday. My consult with the surgeon is on Monday the 17th. Called my other sister, who is unemployed at the present, and made tentative arrangements for her to come and stay with me for a few days so that my husband wont have to miss work....etc. I am ready.... That is hilarious! I love that idea! LOL And I think you are exactly right about the him feeling like I havent thought it through or making decisions too quickly. I guess it feels like that to him because he has 8 days of this, compared to my months and months, and secretly years of thinking about it.... My sister said to me today, "dont worry, pretty soon you will rock his world with the lights out!" LOL I told her I was gonna rock his world with the lights ON!! (sorry if that is TMI):001_smile:

I read and researched for over 6 weeks before I discussed my desires to have the Sleeve with my husband. He is the king of negative! I knew I would have to "educate" him somewhat, because the only knowledge he has is with my sister's RNY experience. (She has done great, btw, except that she is 18 mos. post op and she JUST started taking her Vitamins and supplements! So, until recently she didnt look very "healthy") One week ago today, I talked to him. I was proud of him, as he didnt shoot me down. He told me he would support my decision. He asked me if I thought it was a "necessity". I asked him to go to a seminar with me, and he told me I needed to figure out how I was gonna pay for it before we started doing all that. I am working on the money.... This morning, I made pancakes from scratch and he was talking about how he didnt see how the kids could eat 3 pancakes because he couldnt even eat all of the two he had. (He has NEVER had a weight problem, btw) Then I said after I have my surgery I will only be able to eat this much, and I cut off a chunk about the size of a half dollar. Then he burst my bubble!!! He said "I sure hope that is the answer for you! Because I dont really think that is gonna be it!" I didnt even say anything...argh! It makes me not even want to talk to him about any of it!! Even if I have always failed at my diets....I do believe this surgery is a necessity for me....I do not think it is the easy way out.....and I know it will be the answer I am looking for!!! It sure would be nice to have him "support" me fully....just dont think he knows how to do that! Sorry for the rant! Karen
