Cloths, Style, Hair, Foundations....
The The Edwardian ball is really all over the place costume wise... I know I was more Victorian, but really, not even that... Its more like whatever you like, there were Batmen, Aliens from the 50s, and lots and lots of Fantasy, Steam Punk, Gothic and a few pure souls who were spot on edwardian... really, even during the Edwardian time, there were some major style changes... from the Florodora/Gibson Girl look, to the more sleek man tailoring looks leading up to Coco Chanel. Florodora_sextet.jpg m_FloradoraGirls1.jpg gibson-girls-at-the-beach.jpg dress-for-the-decade-indexed.png Wanda. I wish I could say I have not arm flaps, but I had to pose this pretty well... arms down and covering the back overflow as well... I wore a flimsey blouse over the top to soften things up a bit... and it was pretty dark at the event... great mood lighting most places... oh, and the hair, I started that morning, spraying and ratting, I wore it up to the city to check out the vendors early, then when we went back to the hotel, I took it down, started over sectioning and ratting, and rolling it up to get the volume, then adding the fake"snood" at the back, the black flowers and the little black facinator tophat with feathers and hatpin... then, I hot curled the side curls. Spray, makeup and jewelry... then "lets get the hell out of here cuz we are late!" It took about 3 hours to dress and do hair both. Hair alone was about 45 minutes, my friend and I discussed how your really needed a "dresser" to help out if you were going to maintain this intensity of look every day... We did need each others help on hair and corsets....

Dead eye Jane! Have you ever seen that show "Intervention"? It is a good roadmap for separating yourself from abusers and really setting them up for help without dragging yourself down into their thing any further. Check it out. Its Tough Love.

Cloths, Style, Hair, Foundations....
HI Sar, That is a piece of my art from about 3 years ago. I submitted my work to the guy that selects the art for the event (my second year submitting) and at the last minute he said he loved it, and took 3 pieces. He put them in a nice prominent place, with decent lighting, so that was all good. I went with my bellydance teacher and friend. We got a room to change and crash in, and really had a blast. Thanks! The purple hair looks pretty styley all pilled up on top, made me want to rat it up more often. Well the corsets were certainly in style last night! There were some really great high end hand made corsets there too... there was one little room that was called "the peep show" where beautiful burlesque ladies in extra nice corsets and stockings stood on a tiny stage and got ogled by anyone who wanted to. It was a hoot!

Vet pals, I need new snack ideas!
suzis corn cakes or genisoy crackers with PB or hummus, or deviled egg, or stack up cherry tomato-cucumber-celantro+ on top of a few crackers... I like "picky" foods that I can eat with my hands. I eat sugar free 110 cal maple-brown sugar oatmeal..... a few walnuts and cranberries added are nice... 3-4 tortilla chips with refried Beans and a dab of melted cheese with salsa...

I ended up wearing the demi-corset(goes to just under the bust...only takes off 2 inches...)... took not great photos, but judge for yourselves! Also some from the party too.... It was as awesome as I could have hoped it could be! These people you are seeing in the photos are all guests, there where rooms and rooms of "oddities", art, peep shows, puppet shows, plays, musicians, DJs, live painting, contraptions, psychics, and great venders, lots of hand made hats, cloths, jewelry and the like.... perhaps 7 big rooms of cool stuff, a bar in every room.... the ladies room had two "feinting couches" in it and lots of ladies sitting down because the corsets were so tight! There must have been 300 corsets in attendants, and the men looked fantastic! Really got into dressing up too. San francisco is great for that!

Oh holy cow! Why do some people have to act like this!? So sorry, that would feel like a kick in the gut to me too... It was NOT anything you did... I do think something else is in the mix...with him.... but really, there must have been a better way to deal with it. He sounded like a great guy, but perhaps his inability to be mature in this situation is the same reason he is having an open relationship with a youngster, and not a full on relationship with an adult!

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Keep up the good work Angel! We all slip now and then, but you don't have to give up.... stalls are horrible! But when you give up, that is worse, because there is no chance to get it off... fast or slow. I use the 5:2 also, after gaining 22 pounds and not ever reaching goal... I finally got to goal at three years out! Who cares if it took 3 years!? Not me, I am glad to have gotten there, and now face the challenge of keeping it off. You can too.

Best foods for the brain
http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/brainfood2013#1 I forget, you may have to sign up for this site, but if you are a science geek like me, it is great. I have them send me notices about my chosen interests...including WL.

How was your 5:2 day today?
Wanda, so glad to here that the scale is finally tipping in the right direction! getting in the groove. Sorry to hear about Uncle... We have some great memorials, confirmations of life too... I still cry when I say goodby, but coming out to testify to a life well spent is awesome. Shelia, glad you had a nice bday with family and friends. A 3" at Subway... Im afraid I can get down a 6 inch slowly, but surely.... I don't eat meat, so maybe the veggie with a little cheese is more of a slider, but still...I love subway! If I get the chance, I do usually cut off about 1/4 of the bread....

How Does the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) Affect You?
Best of luck on your surgery Linda! .... just read your other post... so sorry.... hope it all works out for you OK. My coverage at work is the next to the lowest the company offers (the lowest has no perscription at all...)... but my WLS still only cost me $3000.

Intuitive Eating
Sounds like part of a reasonable plan. I have gained weight listening to what I thought was my reasonable inner voice, and moderate eating... but add accountability (MFP, weighing, balancing nutrition...) to those practices , and it works very well for me. I try not to have any enemies in my plan, except blind feeding.

The 5:2 Diet
Big congrats to you! How long did it take, and do you feel like you can keep it up to maintain (maybe 6:1) ?

Struggling to keep weight on?
I am not near as sporty as you, and don't have the same problem as you... but was told by my Dr that depression comes with the WLS often. So I keep an eye out for it, and do feel that way sometimes too... with anxiety. Hopefully with the resolution of that, your routine will get back to normal. It would be very hard for me to eat 3000 a day, of good quality food, thats for sure! I eat up to 1600 on days that I exercise, and it feels like a feast! Perhaps weight gain shakes? Spacing out your meals to fit more in? Good luck with that, it sounds like a challange. Perhaps Butterthebean can chime in here, he runs a lot and seems to keep things in check...

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Thanks Sleeved, When you hear about a "lifestyle change" it is so true and so hard to change unhealthy habits that are in place... sometimes for a good reason... Then realizing that the changes adopted during a "diet" need to stay around forever! WHAT!!!? But its true. That is a life style change. Forever. I see people here say "That is 50 pounds gone forever" and I think... well if you keep up the good work, then probably yes... but I also know how my mind can just shut off if I let it, under stress or vacation, or name your trigger...and I go into shark mode (roll my eyes back in my head and open my mouth and start chomping ) The damage is already done when I get on the scale weeks, months later.... So the lifestyle change that has worked the best for me is keeping my eyes open. Even if I slip up or make a carb monsters dream choice... I know what I have done, and I write it down, and I weight the next day and I write that down, and I move on, and not quit just because I "blew it" or more unemotionally said, made the choice once in a while.Sometimes medication, injury, or circumstances gets in the way of success... but even then, we can make the most of what we have. That is a success too.

How Does the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) Affect You?
I also have no place to respond to the poll, I have coverage through my work, but did go through the california covered site, and would be paying less if my work dropped me and I got on board of the Affordable care act. My husband, who is self employed and pays for Kaiser for himself, will be paying around 20% of what he pays now when he switches over. I would also pay a little more to support a compassionate society. My insurance has gone up so much during the last few years that my income has dropped dramatically as a result. Something had to be done and this is it! Perhaps single payer will come next.

I need so much help!
I eat a LOT of veggies, they fill me up and they taste good, add fiber and nutrition. There are plenty that are low in calories. I eat pots of veggie soup, salads, and stir fries. I can eat 3 cups of veggie soup! Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, greens, brussels sprouts, peppers, tomatoes... you can almost eat these without even counting the cals they are so low. Throw in a little potato with skin, carrots, corn other root veggies to add flavor and variety.... I am a vegetarian so I add a little olive oil and veggie protein, and that makes a fantastic meal weather cold, hot, wet or dry! (Im talking about the food, not the weather ) I have come up with combos of the tastes I like, and just make those time after time. Mexican, curry, Italian, Cajun, Thai, Mandarin.... so many flavors to choose from!

How was your 5:2 day today?
Multi quote time! Me too! Happy Birthday Lovely! Hope your day is fantastic fun and full of love! I have done a few 6:1s as well... mananged 2 fast days this week, was thinking about doing a third today, but the scales didnt move up, so I just went normal today. I think just do what you can, you know, quitting is not a logical answer to not doing 100%... you are moving, and doing at least 50%! Thats pretty good girl! Things will calm down after the Bday cake;p Good for you! two days! and down 3 pounds, awesome! Cheri is back on the fourms, perhaps you would invite her back to our little group? She would have to spend 2 weeks solid catching up on our soap opera! We would all love to see here here again... I think the 'break" in eating is a key as well. I don't make a big deal about counting hours or anything, but on fast days I usually don't eat until after noon, and then only a little. I sometimes skip breakfast on other days as well.... haha I worked so hard at incorporating breakfast into my day even though I wasn't hungry! Instead of dropping the cute dude, how about just telling him you are a busy gal, and a little more notice would work much better for you. (Let him know you have a life. Your time is valuable and you are in demand!) It sounds to me like he might be fishing for more than fish... maybe others in the pond besides you? This may not be a bad thing, it just needs to be up front, or it gets messy. If he can't comply with such a small request, then ba-by lovely! At this time i think you just have to trust him to do the right thing... he may have to go and pick some of his shite up or something. If there is unfinished business, its better that it get finished. See what he says when he gets back.

Anyone Else Go Offtrack & Gain?
Im glad you have a plan. I plan for an evening sweet snack (almost a meal really). Being able to look forward to that helps me say NO to other things that come up. I usually make a home made fat free chocolate pudding at night, with something extra, like a spoon of Peanut butter, or 1/3 cup of mini marshmallows... If your really have a breakdown about something like this, plan for it. I might even skip breakfast if the PM is when I really want to eat. I use MFP not just to count calories/protein,but to make a plan I can see right in front of me, that I will still be eating more later, deep breath, I will NOT starve. I also add in lots of veggies if I am feeling hungry after the protein. I make big pots of steaming veggie soup, low cal, adds water to my count, and gets me full and full of vitamins too! Just stay away from regular sugar and white carbs, they will just add to the feeling of hunger later. Glad you found a nice dress! Do you ever watch "Say Yes! to the dress"?

Upset by old - fat - pics
jen, the first time I really would say out loud how much I weighed, was here, then in public shortly after that. It does help seal the commitment to lose the weight and keep it off (the hard part by the way...)Getting real with the pics is good too, even if hard to take. I don't have many of those in my personal pic stash, but my husband has lots of them, and looking through his pics I see lots of the "worst" and some really nice but FAT ones too. I was really trying to look good with what I had. I remember this too.

How was your 5:2 day today?
I have not even tried my "juliette" on yet. The other one I got, a demi with a tutu, fit just fine. I have been seeing lots of swans lately, they are so lovely and make such a racket for sure! I once watched a mexican mom tightening her little girls belt up snug... she was around 8 I would say, and say something about training her waist to be small. Remember there is some research (on mice ! I think) that says that intermittent fasting helps stave off cancer....among other things....as does developing a healthy gut biome. I will be taking some photos of my costume on saturday.. I will ether wear my demi corset or the full hoo-haw, I dropped off the art today and the place is pretty cool. I then took a car trip to a restored wetland area up by the golden gate bridge, then went up the coast a bit to check out some shore birds at Stinson beach. The dog hates me now because of all the twists and turns in highway one... she'll sleep it off I'm sure.... I ate at TWO fast food places today, Subway (not that bad) and Mcdonalds! Medium frenchfries and an apple pie. bluck! The dog barked at me the whole time I was eating them. She was saying "Don't eat any more of those, they are bad for you... give them to me instead! I'll take that bullet for you mom!" (drool) I think I might fast tomorrow too... make it three days this week... Saturday will be some eating out as well....
