  1. Hurrah Cathy! I know how good it feels to get into "new numbers".
  2. I just posted this show on sugar vs fat that addresses some myths and truths about consumption of those foods... very interesting... #12
  3. I just watched it, worth the time. Same good quality as the "fast diet" program. Some good take away info. One interesting thing they find is fat by itself is not addicting, and sugar by itself is not addicting... but put them together 50/50 and they become addicting... you don't find a 50/50 mix of sugar and fat in nature, and our bodies don't have a shut off mechanism and we like how it tastes.....so cheese cake, donuts, icecream.... addictive.... but not a spoon of sugar.

  5. Wow! That is a whole different story! I have to find this horizon episode...
  6. All Of Me will premiere on PBS Independent Lens on Monday March 24, 2014 at 10pm ET.
  7. I always suspected this: "When people eat controlled diets in laboratory studies, the percentage of calories from fat, Protein, and carbohydrate do not seem to matter for weight loss. In studies where people can freely choose what they eat, there may be some benefits to a higher protein, lower carbohydrate approach. For chronic disease prevention, though, the quality and food sources of these nutrients matters more than their relativequantity in the diet. And the latest research suggests that the same diet quality message applies for weight control." I think that must be why MFP works so well... even on days I eat junk (not that often any more) I write it down and usually do not see a gain on the scale... or the gain is short lived... probably salt/water weight related. I know people here who say that losing weight with low carb/high protein eating has leveled out....and others (like me) who never used low carb eating (but perhaps a little lower carb- being a vegetarian means eating some higher carbs) and had success in the long run. "Protein and WeightHigher protein diets seem to have some advantages for weight loss, though more so in short-term trials; in longer term studies, high-protein diets seem to perform equally well as other types of diets." Seems like a very balanced article.
  8. If I ate the carb plate described by the photo for a month (looks like all white flour and sugar)... there is NO way I would lose ANY weight. I'm sure it was just a prop.. but like you say... they really don't give you any details at all. If you want more details you might be able to find the Horizion show someplace. Thats where the 5:2 plan was hatched as well.
  9. I have not had this procedure, but the sleeve does much of its healing in the first 8 weeks. Perhaps it is the same for a hysterectomy? Sorry this is happening to you... what a lot to go through! In a year, you are going to feel like a new woman. I would plan on 8 weeks, and see how it goes! I sounds like the WLS Doc is flexible. As a side, when you lose a lot of weight you body releases lots of hormones stored in the fat... I wonder how that might affect your other situation... Best of luck!
  10. I was told 8 weeks. I would not "Just go". I would call your Docs office for their advice, talk to the yoga instructor about your operation before class, and really listen to your body. Yoga stretches and massages the internal organs as well as the muscles, and I'm sure is great because of this, but with a weakness in the staple line until it is fully healed, I would say take care. My Dance teacher is also a yoga teacher, has a lot of physical therapy training, and she has been very helpful in adding specific warm ups and drills to address my bone spurs, and others different needs.
  11. My doc said that losing weight will not remove arthritis pain, but will slow the deterioration on joints. I would say save up for your copays for therapy (I assume this is the cost you are talking about) or perhaps they will let you go in once and decide how to go from there... I had bone spurs show up a couple years after surgery, and it really shut my exercise down. I went to three sessions of PT, and a sports medicine doc... I did have to pay $40 copays each time... but it made a huge difference. The pain is not entirely gone, but I am back at the gym, and have a plan to keep the pain at bay. Best of luck to you! Pain is not a joke. (I too got a high end pillow top as a gift, and I find it is heaven next to the old rotten cheap mattress I had before. But when I have hip pain when the weather gets cold, the mattress can only go so far in helping my comfort) Do what you can to invest in the Docs plan... He might be able to work with you to bring the cost in line a little... When I told the PT guys I didn't have that much money, they reduced the number of visits to start with.
  12. I like Vegemite, but hate Marmite... go figure. My hubby is from NZ and if there is Vegemite in the house , he eats it up before I get a spoonfull. Acquired taste for sure.... Reckon?
  13. If you have high blood pressure, heart disease, especially Atriel fibrillation, I would only take Coricidin HPB. It is the safest compound. there are also sugar free meds... http://www.walgreens.com/q/sugar-free-cold-medicine
  14. someone must have cut him off...? the link is gone. He must be depressed. I do think its time for him to pack it up... does he have a butt load of stuff? Is it something he can do himself or does he need help? Does he own part of the house? Do you have an "extra" room or shed that you can put his stuff in? A little shed can be had for less than $300 on sale.... Even paying first and last on a cheep room someplace might be worth your time and money to get him out.... Is he paying-supposed to be paying rent? If so, you could evict him legally... and theres always the "pack his Shite up, put the boxes on the lawn and change all the locks" technique... Does he have relatives/friends that you could call to help him get out and move on? If you think he is a danger to himself or others, you could call in a 5150 and try and get him a 72 hour evaluation...Maybe stages.... like NO MORE COOKING PRIVILEGES SIGNS OF PACKING MUST BE EVIDENT EVERY DAY JOB APPLICATIONS IN EVERY DAY good for two weeks or whatever the REAL deadline is, if conditions not met, then the doors get new locks. Put whatever you do in writing. For him, and to show legally you have a paper trail. It may be time for a RED cocktail dress!.... maybe something you can wear with the new corset?
  15. Maybe after doing the regular curves, you might even move to the JIllian! Who knows!? Good for you having a movement plan!
  16. Hopefully surgery will help you get off some of them too... My dog gave me some chewable and liquid meds to take right after surgery, this helped get them down until the tummy healed a bit... you can also get chewable vitamins... this helped me a lot.
  17. Wanda, I agree with Jane, the drop dead date just leads to disaster for me too... but having the 10 pound goal is good and doable. I have a 5 pound goal right now, and I have confidence I can do it, but when? Don't know. Just know I'll get there some day! Hey, I think I might add another ticker to my signature... for those last 5 pounds..... I couldn't post another weight ticker, so chose a bmi ticker... if I lose 6 more pounds I will be in the "normal" range...even though we all know that bmi measure is BS...and I will NEVER be "normal" ... it would be a better place to bounce from for me. I really don't want to change my weight loss ticker though... I want to be at goal even if I am trying to lose 6 more pounds! I feel like I have gotten to goal.....
  18. I am a painter. I posted a painting the other day for some friends to see. It had my face in it, and some other background things... anyway, one of my friends here said "is that an older painting? You need to do a new one showing how you look NOW" I didn't even realize I was painting myself "fat"
  19. Hi All! There is a form you fill out with all your measurements from your optometrist (is that who does the measuring?) Anyway, that does the trick. You can then have them tinted if you want, they have many color/darkness choices. Its not much more, maybe 10$ I think... I have experimented on different shapes and types... colors... the pair I am wearing mostly now gets tons of compliments... even from my friend that sells frames at a very upscale eyeware shop... she said they look like $500 frames... I paid around $69 including the bifocals.... I wonder if Butter and Legal even remember we are here! ( I know Butter does, but not sure if he has ever been here himself?) I'm glad you and Bill are working things out, so glad you are happy... I have "co-habitated" with a Steve and a Steven Ray..... one after the other... not so many name slip ups that way!
  20. Good for you Kelly, sounds like you have really picked up the gauntlet and are going for it strong. Very impressive and inspiring to me. Good going! A good eye-blooding read!

  22. swiz, I just can't believe you haven't lost on 5:2! Our bodies really have their own idea about things don't they?! That weather is really something, we are having a drought here at this time, and It just started sprinkling outside (at last something!) Last week it was in the 70's! I know that sounds great, but without water, all the agriculture and such are screwed. Hope things start looking up for you soon, I know cold and dark don't help one bit! sarah, you are a sweetheart! Thats all I have to say, you just are! I just figured out the last time I weighed this much was in 1985. That is a head trip!
  23. face lift... I think about that now and then... I am getting past the optimal facelift age... but maybe some day.....
