  1. I was thinking the same thing, mostly because that sounds like the kind of guy I would fall for! (and pay for it later...) Gotta love the comment from the guys! I would have been totally blushing! That is a great "moment" and a lovely reality check about what the guys are thinking too! I am doing a happy dance for you, but not singing at the same time yet... waiting for it to "stick" before I break out in song! OK, Im doing a play by play analysis of my holiday weight gain/loss... Looks like I actually gain before holidays rather than on them! (lead up parties I guessing!) the chart shows 5 pounds between the lines...
  2. Thanks! I think making new habits that include big crunchy salads will help us stay on track! I personally like having a big bowl in front of me... I can't always eat it all, but it makes me feel normal. The stomach will relax and stretch a little over time, but filling it in with lots of veggies is a great way to stay on track... I think my stomach stopped getting bigger at around a year out. I had trouble with weight gain after that time... but filling it up with veggies, raw and cooked, helped me feel full without the calories.
  3. for 5:2? normal days eat what you would eat for the sleeve, protein first, lower carb, over 60 gms protein.... regular fluids.... between 1200-1500 cals depending on your exercise....the more you have to lose, the higher the protein... don't want to lose muscle... fast days, 500-550 40+ gms protein, stay away from sugar or white carbs... eat lots of veggies and low glycemic index foods... start eating later in the day on fast days if possible.
  4. I personally think a big salad is good. So is a big bowl of veggie soup! veggies, raw and cooked are so good for us. I started eating more veggies just as soon as I could find the room for them. I don't stuff them in, but I slow down and enjoy them in some quantity and variety. If I put some kind of Protein on the salad (I am a vegetarian) I eat that first...
  5. congratulations! I stopped snoring. I used to wake myself up!
  6. Jane, you are the queen of thinking through feelings and action. You got this. It is so smart to bring the feelings into thought now and then... it just takes some of the power out of them and brings a little objectivity. Good for you girl! I have been struggling with my impulses too a bit... I really just put it in my mouth if its around. I guess I do pass some stuff by, but other times in it goes! I too have some confidence that that I can get back into my lower bounce range sooner than later... I just don't let it get that far out of control (so far since maintenance anyway)....honestly, getting a little bit out of control in between tightening the reigns feels kind of good. Makes me feel like I can eat how I want... at least once in a while. Is it dangerous? I hope not... so far so good. I do bounce around a little bit every week it seems.... but within 3 pounds.
  7. So sorry to hear this, very sad. Just love him up and down. What else can be done? Best wishes your way Lisa.
  8. So sorry you are going through this! Glad you have medical support. Best of luck to you.
  9. yes, its called 5:2 Links and info Yes protein is what I eat first. No drinking before or after. My carbs have indeed increased some. I try to eat the right foods. It has been more difficult lately with a decreased grocery budget to buy what I need and what the family is willing to eat. I have not been faithful to do my exercise daily. And have stopped logging my intakes when I was logging(two months back now) I was eating 820 cal a day trying to hit my 70-90grms of protein. sooo. I can see the first steps for me will be to start logging and exercising. I still want to know how to do the 5:2 and try that also. Thanks. There r no support groups in my area so I've been pretty much flying solo. Sounds like a good place to start. I find logging everything has kept me in touch with what I am really eating... I can be so mindless and think I am doing great, but NOT. Thanks Georgia! You just did my work for me. Like she said kj44 ^^^
  10. Aw shoot! I just answered 5 posts and then I pushed some shortcut and knocked them all out! Boo! (double return button maybe?) Anyway, happy thursday all, I read all your posts and have replies, but just used the last glucose in my brain to answer and lost it. Yes Georgia, I saw the post in the hosts forum about the "Secret groups" Wouldn't they like to know!!! Sorry for those who are sad, happy for those who are happy! Hungry from those who bake! and invite those over who clean to go hog wild on my place! I had a good fast day, less than 550....
  11. Yep Georgia, Check your local station to make sure that is when it airs in your area.
  12. Fast day! (so releaved its here, after the last few days... I can't even list the junk... shame faced. I did not gain beyond my bounce... but its only luck and the 5:2 that kept that from happening!)
  13. Denise, I agree with the above... a tune up or replacement would make for a better night sleep... perhaps if you asked him "sexy" , and remind him you really don't want him to sleep in the other room, he might not get huffy about it... I am guessing you are not the first person to mention it to him...he probably hates the thing too.
  14. Read this post from the top, check post #3 for a link to the 5:2 info page located in the Vets forum. What are your eating habbits at this time? If you are going back to old habits, your tummy may well be producing more acid. Protein first? plenty of water with a "no drink zone" during and after any food intake? lower carbs? some exercise? Do you log your food on MFP or some other site? You will still have to do this 5 days a week... I eat from 1200-1500 cals a day depending on my exercise, then "fast" for two non consecutive days... thats 500 cals on those days, keeping it pretty clean... read the above....its a crime that your doc-nut didn't give you any advice or a plan to follow....
  15. Go to the Docs if you haven't already. This is not a good sign. It could be some obstruction.
  16. Coops, hugs to your dear son, how can a young man understand such a thing? I have had friends do this... including a teacher I felt very close too... so sad. Sheryl, that omelet sounds delish! I don't remember If I mentioned... Craig (my hubby) twisted his foot on the motorcycle while he was in Mexico... it took him 4 days to get out of the dirt road area and back to Sacramento. He limped around for two weeks, thinking the foot would get better (macho!) then finally went and got an Xray....BROKEN LEG! Crazy mofo! I married a Viking! So yesterday, I took him in to have it rebroken and set, with a metal plate screwing it together, and a cast. I have taken off 2 days from work to play nurse... he is on some heavy drugs... but seems like he is doing pretty well. I have been feeding him all kinds of crap with a few healthy things snuck in for good measure. I have managed to eat many of the same things, only less. Heaven help me! Its supposed to rain tonight... fingers crossed, we really need it and a bunch more or the water and food supply is in danger. Some towns may even run out of water this summer. I have been saving my bath water to flush the toilet and water the trees.
  17. Sorry your having unrest at home... We all bought into a change filled life didn't we?! It just keeps spinning out for better or worse.... hopefully more better than worse!
  18. I would have to draw the line there... if my social life was impacted this much to lose the last 10... I don't think I would go there. Thats probably why I am where I am, and not 10 pounds lower! I am not that great in the social life department anyway, and cutting out my occasional outings with friends that involve food (not horrible, The tummy helps on the quantity part, but some treats) would be heartbreaking to me. Most of my "food outings" are at horrible restaurants that do not cater to vegetarians anyway, and I have switched most of my thinking to "going out for socializing, and not for eating" Where do we draw the line?
  19. I talked to Laura, she said shes not ready to come back to BP just yet and said: "I hope the girls and you are doing well. Tell them I said hi and I miss them too, I'm just kind of a mess right now. Laura" I told her that we will support her wether she is "a mess" or not. Come back when she's ready. Anyway, glad to see your face around. Ain't the same without you! I don't need only good news, I just want to hear it when its there! Share the joy! What is with these bodies!? It seems like a mystery to me. What/when/how/why it all works or doesn't work seems to float in the breeze, being blown off track and back on with the slightest gust. Good for you still in the game, Hope this helps get things back where you want them... on the way down to smaller fabulous! Have we gotten negative? I'm sorry, I know I've been in a funky funk for a while now, I apologise for bringing the blahs with me every time I post. Urgh, I wish I could quit me!! Wanda, I totally feel you. I think I'm going to follow your lead and try the 4:2 (with long fasting periods every day) plus one 'larger than normal' day per week. I'll try that for a while, for sanity and for weight loss. Thanks for the inspiration!! And Swiz, This last bit has really been hard for you, I know. At 5'6" and 150... that pretty small and normal... I think it would be hard to get below that. i am only under 2" taller than you, and weigh 20 pounds more. I can't get the scale to really budge at this time.... it does love to bounce though! I love that you guys are planning a trip! And Cathy, where did that hot new pic go? I don't have an ipad... so cant help you with that...
  20. Did the ex finally move out?
  21. When I started I would have an Iced coffee(decaf) with a ESA Carb control Protein drink in it... I would just sip that throughout the day. Then have dinner at the regular time. As the weather got colder, I started not liking the cold drink, so switched to a hot coffee with milk. I have had a greek yogurt a time or two as well. Now many of the 5:2 ladies swear by making that fasting window longer... like around 16 hours, so I have started just having a decaf with a spoonful of non dairy creamer (10 calories) and thats it until dinner. I eat dinner kind of early on those days... like 5pm. I have all (most) of my calories in that meal, and maybe some for a later snack... not too much later. Thats what i am doing now. The best plan is one you can stick too, and one of the authors of the book would have breakfast and dinner, the other would only have dinner.... it worked for both of them. One of the 5:2 vets used 5:2 for months and did not lose a pound... she started making the window bigger and started to lose more weight.....you don't want to feel deprived, or weak, but we have found that after doing it for a week or two, it gets much easier and we actually look forward to it. You can alway have that thing you want to eat tomorrow with this plan.
  22. Best of luck to you on achieving your goals!
  23. Best of luck, I know it has made a big difference in my ability to maintain as well.
  24. The gas pain they talk about is usually felt in the shoulder, and from the gas they inflate the intestinal cavity to make room for the surgery... its not inside the stomach or intestines... yes it is normal to get the "water down the drain" sound. I had it for months, then it went away. It was LOUD. The tummy produces the amount of acid it needed when big... and it takes a while to heal and get to its new "normal". That is my understanding anyway...
  25. Vets don't recommend the 5:2 to people under a year out, we recommend your Docs plan...but I'm not your ma so here goes. The 5:2 is not specifically a weight loss plan, but a longevity plan. Keep in mind this is in the Vets forum, and anyone under a year out is not supposed to post there.... http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/291240-52-links-and-info/ The 5:2 worked/works very well for me. After years of not reaching goal, I lost some regain(22 pounds) and then got to goal. Watch the link to the show that started it if you haven't already. Best of luck to you!
